About Mercerville

Mercerville is a small community in Western New Jersey, bordered by the Delaware River and the Pennsylvania border. It's an unincorporated community within Hamilton Township, part of the Trenton-Ewing metropolitan area that sits in Mercer County. Mercerville is conveniently located 3.6 miles from Trenton and 40 miles from Philadelphia, providing a balance of small-town living and easy driving distance of several large cities.

The History of Mercerville

The area where Mercerville now sits was originally inhabited by the Lenape Indians. Perhaps the most notable part of Mercerville's story is its role in the Revolutionary War. Under the command of George Washington, the Continental Army marched directly through the Mercerville area. Today, you can see many historical markers that provide details about the army's path. You'll find several markers that detail the important night march that took place between the Second Battle of Trenton and the Battle of Princeton.

The community is named after General Hugh Mercer, a Revolutionary War general who incurred a fatal injury at the Battle of Princeton.
