This storage facility is a NIGHTMARE. They have virtually NO SECURITY (no cameras). It’s a total DUMP. It’s full of rats, mice, and moths. My storage unit was BURGLARIZED. The RODENTS ruined thousands of dollars of my belongings. And the employees are HORRIBLE!

Yet another time I try to bring things to my storage unit. I can’t get on of 5 carts lined up in the Office, because of course there is no one there and the door is locked.
My unit is right next to the elevator, so it shouldn't be that inconvenient, but of course that elevator is broken, as it usually is, and now I have to carry all of my things by hand across the building from the back elevator.
Notably, I was stuck between floors in this elevator for 20 minutes, until the firefighters could come let us out just a few weeks ago.
Been a customer for 2.5 years. Many hundreds of dollars a month. They know how hard switching is and I feel totally trapped.

Do not expect to helpful staff. Do not expect to use the app to unlock doors or elevators within building, there’s no cell phone service or WiFi. I got stuck in the elevator and the response from staff was yelling at me for being there after closing. I profusely apologized and tried to explain that the elevator malfunctioned and I had to press the emergency help button to get out. Her response was, “I don’t care, I got off 4 mins ago and you need to get out of here.”
Tee is amazing, incredible customer service & knows her stuff! She also took the time to educate me on everything that would help me with a storage unit that I had to check in on and clear out! One downside, the elevators don’t work sometimes.

The spaces are climate controlled so it's liminally cool, you're nowhere. Total backrooms vibe.

I find the employees always very pleasant. On my recent visit there were no carts in the office, and yet there were only a couple cars in the parking lot so I thought well they’re not that busy, where are the carts? The Employee followed me back to the parking lot and said he would g investigate Warning . He found carts and brought one to me. I thought that was exceptionally nice of him to do so.

Do not choose public storage over any of the local storage companies (there are many in the area).
When I moved into my storage unit 2 years ago my monthly bill was $231/mo. 2 years later they consistently raised the rate until it hit $449/mo!!!
A whopping 194% increase in 2 years. If this is not daylight robbery I don’t know what it is.
I will never consider public storage again based on this experience.

Forgot the name of the girl who helped me (glasses and curly hair, very friendly and smart) but she’s a gem!
I went to another location to attempt to resolve a time sensitive billing issue after they told me over the phone I had to go in person to resolve it, and the person there was unable to resolve it and was generally unhelpful.
So we decided to try to go by one more location before closing time to see if we could resolve it and thankfully we went to this one and got to work with this super helpful gal! Friendly, informative, and patient with me being on the phone with customer service (so rude of me tbh but I was trying to juggle things in a panic), AND solved the issue within 5 mins!

The elevator has been down for over a month. They just hike up the cost of the unit at will - mine went up almost $70 and I was only in the unit for 4 months before that. If you try to call to talk to someone for help (not for sales - those answer right away) it takes 20-30 minutes to get someone on the phone.
I will say the in office staff is friendly and helpful - but the business as a whole is just looking to gouge you. Save your money and go elsewhere.
The hours here are also terrible compared to others.
My mother is a customer at your storage facility, and her recent experience was extremely disappointing. Yesterday, she was locked in the facility and became disoriented because she had never used the back exit before. She tried asking a staff member for help, but instead of offering guidance, the employee responded rudely, as if she were intentionally trying to stay after hours.
She was lost inside the unit area, began to panic, and when she finally located a worker and explained the situation, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the misunderstanding. Instead, she later received an email and text message stating the facility hours—something that was never the issue. The problem was the lack of assistance and professionalism from your team.
Your staff needs additional training in customer service, especially in handling situations where a customer is lost, confused, or distressed. This level of service is unacceptable, and I hope you address it immediately.

update: The staff at the place has improved a lot over the last year. The rental went from 98 dollars to 236, over twice the amount in a year and two months.
The black lady teresa at the office said I need to reserve my van indefinitely because their elevator is broken. Their crew was blowing dust into my van and onto my face. I couldn’t see anything and injured my finger because of that. When I walked into the office and asked them when they will stop blowing the entire garage of garbage into the vehicles of customers and told them I was injured, she started screaming at me and told me there is nothing she could do. Then she screamed and screamed at me over and over again. Telling me she would call me weeks later when the elevator is back up again. She’s harassing all of the other customers trying to get them to move out of their storage on other floors. Then five minutes later, without any new information, she picked up a phone call from another customer and suddenly started saying her goal is to get the elevator back up and running today. She tried to force me out of the office with my finger injured and said she would call the police if her yelling wouldn’t get me to leave. So I called the police instead. Now 30 minutes later their elevator is back up and running without anybody fixing it.
Throughout the entire process I was nice and cordial. There was not a sentence she said that was not screaming. She also locked the office door and wouldn’t let me go into the office because I asked her why she was telling different customers completely different answers within the span of 20 minutes. She’s absolutely insane and wouldn’t stop abusing customers who got injured and ask legitimate questions about her insane behavior.
Now their elevator is broken again 40 minutes later.
As I am waiting for the police, another customer told me they raise their price 40 dollars every six months once you store your things here because they knew their customers couldn’t get their things out in time.
The elevator has been down for almost 3 weeks! It’s a good thing the managers are so helpful with insight on alternate access routes to ease the inconvenience of having to walk further and go through even more hallways just to get to my locker. Mau is so helpful and makes this inconvenient problem more bearable. Thank you.
Their phone lines takes me on a loop of suggestions that take me back to the menu and the customer service is poor. You can’t deliver any goods to the storage even if you send someone over. They are hard to work with

At first I was a little worried about storing my furniture in this area and also I was concerned that I wouldn’t have a place to park the Uhaul truck. This place turned out to be very clean, very safe and I parked right next to my storage building after I entered through the gate. This is a great storage option if you want your stuff near the City.
They raised my rent 34% after 4 months. Read the contract before signing - I see now they can adjust the rent anytime with only 30 days notice. Raising the rent 34% after 4 months is simply unprofessional.
$404 a month all my belongings smell like mildew Rat urine everywhere, mice droppings So disgusting Do not use this storage.

Customer service isn't professional at all some kid with curly hair refused to let me in the gate when I was there 5 mins before they closed I told him I only have a few items to drop in my storage the uhaul truck I have got to be back by 7 and I was unaware of them closing at 5pm. They need to let you still have access to your storage if your paying for it even when the office is closed
They doubled my rent the first year I rented here. Also this facility is extremely confusing and it's likely there will be stairs between the ground floor and your unit because it's a hastily converted old car dealer... PASS!... please consider their competitors of which there are multiple nearby.
Or... Consider selling or throwing stuff away that you are planning on locking away and never seeing again anyway, then we can put them out of biz for good! 👍

Best public storage branch I’ve ever been to! I’ve had units in many different cities but the customer service here is top tier! Mau was super helpful and really helped my family and I with all our needs.
Broken elevators.
If you are looking for a nice, clean, secure and convenient storage facility where you are almost sure to find an available space, you should contact this Public Storage at 99 S Van Ness. I have had to upgrade a few times from a small starter space to a large garage-size space once renovations commenced on my home. Each time was easy and smooth. The staff at this location are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very professional. I have not ever had an unpleasant experience. Having a great staff on site and the facility kept very clean helps me feel good about my decision to store my belongings here. I highly recommend it. Oh and there is parking...A BIG PLUS IN SF!

I reserved a storage in this location and had a call with the lease office agent to meet the day after. But she didn’t show up until an hour later after I called their customer service to learn what was going on. Because I felt it was so unreliable, I found another cheaper storage company nearby while waiting and left when the agent arrived so late. No follow-up call from her. I don’t recommend Public Storage as they cannot even keep their initial rental appointment for a new customer. It says a lot about what the whole lease would have looked like.

The best Public Storage site in SF! Interiors are clean, well lit and maintained. Staff are professional and helpful, especially the manager Carlos. Units are mid-range price but the location has great street access and customer parkng ( a real plus in this area of SF) Rental spaces go quickly because of the frequent promo deals so don't shop around too much.

The space is fine, what is frustrating is their hours (close at 5pm on weekends and 6pm weekdays) and that if you leave at 5pm when they close, they will email and text you to notify you left late. It just is giving me a bad customer experience. Suggestion to close 15 minutes earlier if they don’t want you there up until actual closing time?

Mel and Kevin were a great help while renting two spaces on different days. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable they made the process go smoothly and quickly. Another plus is the high ceilings in the units which add a lot of extra storage space. If you're moving lots of items, it is easier if there are at least two people to deal with entering codes for self closing doors and the elevators while maneuvering items and carts. I'm happy we chose this location and company.
The elevators are often out of order and I hate their hours. Opening at 9:30? Really? The hours often seem to change on a whim as well. I am raising them from three stars to four stars and that is strictly due to the employees here. They've been kind and understanding and extremely helpful. Thanks..

I used this facility for about 5 months and it was nothing short of amazing. Always clean, climate controlled, and, most importantly, SUPER SAFE! Their staff was always kind and attentive and they even offered me complimentary lockout services on the spot. 100% would recommend!

Kind staff, I'm stupid and Lost the keys to my lock. I asked him what I should do, and they told me I can take it off myself, it would be quicker. They would just have to accompany me, which is cool. Unfortunately it took a couple of days to get bolt cutters. well, I'm ready to go cut my lock and buy a new one. I'm glad they carry effective locks for a reasonable price, that helps.

Moved out today, the storage is temperature controlled so all my stuff are in good condition. Also, Mau has been very helpful for my move-in and move-out processes, everything’s made so easy!

TLDR; AVOID! Trust the low reviews. If you are looking for super convenient storage in SF, I switched to Public Storage's main competitor located right at the freeway entrance. Better hours, more convenient location and the staff is kind and respectful as opposed to rude and slovenly.
Second and last time I will use Public Storage for my storage needs. I am a full-time traveller and I keep a storage unit for when I am in town.
I often am traveling in or out of town and need to swap a few things in storage. It turns out this is often right near the end this facility's access hours.
I have tried my best each time to leave before 5pm or 6pm. However on multiple occasions I left at 6:01, 6:07, etc.
Each time the employees made sure I knew I was inconveniencing them and were rude.
Additionally, Public Storage's systems automatically lock your code if you leave even a minute after closing time. You have to go talk to their rude employees. This happened only TWICE. I only accessed the unit an average of 1-2 times a month.
The second time they locked my code, I was told that if it happened again they would evict me.
This is after they raised the price on me aggressively.

I've only been renting here for a few months and so far its been ok-i feel that my stuff is secure and I'm safe when I'm alone at my unit.I'm NOT happy with the rent rates,and also the fact that you have to pay for renters insurance which looks like a big rip off to me.also,I was told that my rent will go up every few months!its obscene,but what can I do?I need the space.its too bad the company totally takes advantage of that.
I just rented a 5 × 15 at this location. On arrival I was met with a warm welcome & great service. Kevin, one of the employees, made my experience great. He listened & was very helpful. I'm glad I picked this location.

Pretty clean most of the time . One thing that was not cool....their elevators were broken for about 2-3 weeks, which then forced everyone to use the staircase outside to reach their destination.. I'm not sure what they were able to offer people that are disabled, hopefully they rent out the first floor to the disabled because I had overheard an employee say that it's something that 'happens' ... the elevator breaks down and it's not repaired that day or even the following day 😕
