Country Club Hills is a small city in Illinois' Cook County, just a short drive from Chicago. With an active parks and recreation department, a local theater and plenty of everyday amenities, Country Club Hills has become a very popular home for young families.

The History of Country Club Hills

Country Club Hills started as a dream for J. E. Merrion, a local developer. In 1955, he decided he wanted to create a town full of affordable middle-income homes for working families, set in a relaxed, country-style environment.

Before this time, German farmers who came to the land in the 1800s had settled the area. The area was known as Cooper Grove for quite some time, and the farmers established a local church and school. The church was opened in 1873, and the building still stands in the Country Club Hills of today.

Once Merrion discovered the picturesque setting of the then-named Cooper Grove, he saw great potential for his ideas to come to life. The spacious lots, well-designed homes and convenient roadways attracted many new residents. By 1956, Country Club Hills had approximately 117 homes completed, and the Country Club Hills Homeowners Association started working toward incorporation. The town was incorporated in 1958.

Country Club Hills Parks and Recreation

Part of the reason that so many young families are drawn to the city of Country Club Hills is that it has a thriving parks and recreation department that provides numerous parks and activities for people of all ages. The city's programs and activities are an integral part of the small-town spirit, bringing residents together and making it easy to get to know your neighbors.

The city's recreational programs include summer day camps for the city's children, adult fitness programs, and arts and crafts clubs for children. Senior citizens can sign up for the Older Americans Coalition, which provides a range of activities such as trips to the theater, dining at local restaurants and more. Holiday celebrations, picnics in the park and family camping events are just a handful of the activities you can enjoy in Country Club Hills.

Country Club Hills Schools

Country Club Hills School District 160 and Bremen High School District 228 operate the city's public elementary, middle and high schools campuses. There are very few private school in the city, but a few local options include faith-based campuses and for-profit preschools.
