The History of Bridgeview

Native American tribes inhabited the area now known as Bridgeview until the 1830s. The township grew slowly until the 1870s, when German and Italian settlers established farms growing corn, wheat, oats and potatoes.

The agricultural industry began to slow down around the 1920s, so Bridgeview's economy was forced to diversify to survive. Real estate developers began to build homes, industrial developments began to flourish and the Harlem Airport was constructed. In 1947, when Bridgeview had just 500 residents, voters opted to incorporate the village. Today, the community maintains a balanced zoning approach, creating fairly equal areas for residential, commercial and industrial development.
