Niles

Niles is home to many of Fremont's most popular antique shops and craft stores, and it is host to an annual flea market that draws shoppers from all over the Bay Area. This neighborhood was also the site of one of the West Coast's first motion picture companies, with iconic stars including Charlie Chaplin filming here.

Mission San Jose

Mission San Jose flourished during the California Gold Rush, with prospectors setting up a boom town with the historic Spanish mission at its center. Today, the neighborhood houses a diverse population and is known for its high-performing schools and educated community.

North Fremont District

The North Fremont District is primarily several small residential communities, which attract many young families for the quiet suburban lifestyle they offer. The Ardenwood Historic Farm is a major landmark in North Fremont, constructed in 1857 and now open to the public.

Irvington

The Irvington community got its start in the mid-1800s, and was the site of Washington College, one of the first industrial educational schools in California. Interestingly, the city was originally named Irving, but an expensive typo in an 1880s railroad pamphlet led to an official name change.

Fremont Schools

The Fremont Unified School District serves the majority of public schools in the city, offering independent study programs and a continuation high school in addition to traditional schools. There are also a number of private elementary, middle and high schools in the area.

If you're interested in higher education, there are a few options to choose from. The Ohlone Community College District has a local campus in the area, offering a variety of two-year degree programs.
