If you need to rent a storage unit, stay away from @PublicStorage. Their "customer service" is some of the worst I've ever experienced. I was renting a unit at their location just west of I-95 off of Sunrise in Fort Lauderdale. It was supposed to be climate controlled but was not. The light bulb had burned out and was not replaced. I didn't have time to wait for them to get a replacement and a person and ladder to remedy that, so I never had light in the unit. As a result of the heavy rains in mid-April, the facility was flooded. I received an email the next day (4/14) letting me know that I needed to set up an appointment to come and check on my unit, but after 4/19. On 4/20 I called but only got their voice mail, so I left a message. Never got a call back. On 4/27 I paid my May rent. On 4/28 I rode my bicycle the 6.4 miles to the facility, even though I didn't have an appointment. I was told that the facility was closing and that I had until 5/13 to remove my belongings. They would not cover the cost of moving unless I rented another unit from them. I was also told that they were not accepting rent payments for May. After explaining that I already paid, I was told to contact customer service. Their chat told me to go back to the facility manager, so I tried calling. Their phone service told me (after jumping through a lot of hoops to actually speak with a live person) that I would automatically get a refund once May started. (This never happened.) On 5/3 I rented a U-Haul truck and moved my belongings out (most of the stuff was OK, but I did suffer about $1300 in damages - mostly books and DVDs). The manager gave me the contact info for the regional manager who could get me my refund. I wrote him that night but never got a response. On 5/11 I contacted customer service through chat and was told that my (prorated) refund was authorized and I should receive it within 10-14 business days. After ten business days I contacted them again and was told that it will take 6-8 weeks, which is their norm. I asked if there was a way to expedite this given the circumstances and was asked to hold and then told it would be expedited. When I asked how long it would take, I was told 6-8 weeks. Of course, I pointed out that this was not, in fact, expediting anything and asked to contact someone higher up. I was told to call customer service, which I did. After ten minutes of trying to negotiate their automated system (there is actually no option to speak with a live person in their menu), I reached a live person who told me that it would take 6-8 weeks and that there was nothing they could do. I again asked to speak to someone higher up and was transferred to someone else who said she could refer me to a regional manager who may be able to help me. I asked that this person contact me regardless of the outcome. I have still not heard back. Now, at every point the person I was dealing with apologized for the inconvenience, but apologies without actually trying to help are just a form of manipulation. So, they seem to have a "customer service" practice of non-communication, passing the buck, and lying. All this for close to $200/month for a 5'x10' unit.

Took someone here to put items in storage. The first night we were unaware the gate closes at 9pm. We were 2-3 minutes late. When you try to punch in a code it gives a message to access after hours to call a 1-800 number which we did only to have the rep tell us they do not have access to open the gates after hours. The next day we learned our lesson send returned earlier. Their unit is located to the far back corner. There was a dumpster located in the area but it seems as everyone missed the dumpster when they are throwing away items they did not want…even though the dumpster was almost full. There was furniture and mattresses left to the side. It kind of looked like a dump. This location is also located right next to a train track. I was standing outside while the train sped by and it scares the heck out of me!!! Not sure if I would use this location for my own storage, but I am sure they might have competitive prices.

Mark the manager is amazing! Our unit was left open by mistake. He called us and we were able to get over there quickly and close it before any issues. Feel better knowing he’s there

So this is an appreciation post for the staff at this public storage unit location!!! Long story short, i thought i closed my storage unit cause i frankly couldnt afford it and the people who went in on it with me bailed on helping me pay for it. Next thing i know I get a collection notice about this unit i thought i closed. I went into the location and the property manager Lala was so incredibly helpful and gave me great advice (because i had no clue what to do, this has never happened to me before)! Although i still owe the debt collectors, with Lalas advice I was able to get a settlement for 1/2 of what I owed! It's my own fault things got forgotten, but thanks to Lala I can finally close that unit indefinitely and not have that looming stress. In the future if i do find myself needing another unit (& i can afford it on my own) I will definitely use Public Storage! Thank you Lala your kindness made this process informative and painless!

I presented on the move-in date with a Uhaul and movers. No one was in the office that day to open the unit, though I was there during office hours. There was a sign instructing to go to the Public Storage down the street so I drove down there. There was a sign at that location stating someone would return at 1:15PM and it was 3PM. Waited for 40 minutes and called customer service; they did not provide ANY solution. Luckily, ended up finding a better and more organized storage facility with a different company, and MUCH better customer service. Called to ask for a refund from Public Storage and was told it was not possible. Lost money on a reserved unit I had no access to. Will never rent with Public Storage again.

This brand is my go to for storage always consistent.. I took a star away because the online pay option didnt work very well BUT here came the front desk employees to save the day.. she was super friendly and patient.. she helped every way she could .. we didnt get the gate code after paying online we got charged twice and could secure the spot.. BUT the young lady helping up fixed EVERYTHING.. and 1 hour later had the unit paid for and done full of moving stuff.. I still have the unit and will for several.months...

Wow, this place is evil. This location was just shut down for two months back in November due to flooding. It should be permanently closed. They kicked us all out because it was underwater for weeks. Over 500 units! We lost everything. Don’t be fooled by the cheap prices, all they want is your money and they don't care about the customer. Please do your research on this location and ask questions regarding flood issues.

WARNING - Worst Storage in the US. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Worst customer service at this location. Go into the office and you will be welcomes by the most meanest staff I have ever met. People are arrogant to answer anything properly. Sorry to say that this was the worst experience I've ever had with a self storage company. The facility was flooded from rain for over a week. It was like Lake Michigan. Everything was completely destroyed from top to bottom, inside and out. We were all told to evacuate our damaged units and move to another location within a few days. Wouldn't recommend this particular public storage location. Save your blood, sweat and tears.

Neighborhood is pretty rough. Gate hours are kinda lousy too. Unit needs a little work on the inside. Price is fair though.

Easy going "Sonia" my fave.... Very chill works with you payments and all. I feel I owe it to my few readers that are kind enough to read my statement that I was wrong about the Public Storage Company Sonia charge me literally double I ordered a $30 storage units in charge me $56 didn't even ask me if I wanted insurance and just put it on the computer anyway oh but you don't have to pay next month she said $4 away from literally double okay so forget everything I said I was wrong as my first impression I'd met her a couple of times she was like really chill like I said but she's deceiving and I feel like I owed you guys just stay away from that public that particular Public Storage there's millions of them all of this city but she's not to be trusted she's not what she pretends to be I mean she literally didn't even ask me $4 away from double $60 for a $30 unit okay can you believe that yeah well I'm only going to pay $4 next month that's for damn sure

Absolutely horrible. I went to my storage and found rat droppings (which makes me think the rats have taken over my couch) spider, centerpeds...and that $250 insurance isnt going cover the damage. Please just go to Uhaul storage - much better & there are no holea in the units.

I was at this location to inquire about prices and availability. Upon entering I was greeted by a lady who was not friendly or helpful. Debbie was rude and unpleasant from the very first start to the very end of our encounter.

This is a terrible facility; frankly, I would never do business with Public Storage again. After leasing two units from them over some months, I went to move out, only to discover that there is standing water in one of my two units. I have had a good deal of damage to rather expensive furniture and area rugs, etc. When I spoke with customer service, they assured me that storage was all at my own risk, and to get lost. They didn’t even apologize. Also, during a busy Saturday morning, there was no staff on site, for at least several hours. So, my items are damaged, there’s no one here, and I have been sent away frustrated. Terrible!

I would never rent from this storage again they have rats the bathroom is always disgusting the facility is always dirty never clean. The rats have ate my things and to make matter worst some of my things are missing out my storage. Please don’t waste your time there are no rolling carts...... This storage deserves no stars

Bad business practices, they will charge you for a whole month if you move out on the first day of the month instead of the day before. They use to let you pay for that one (1) day, but now they're got greedy ☹

Light wasn't working in my unit when I came and wanted to move my stuff out. I reported it but was told it would take a couple weeks to fix. I had to pay the rent and come another day. Came back another time to get my stuff and return the key. The man said I was supposed to evict the premises 2 days prior to it being a full month. So no i have a $100+ balance owed. Plus keep getting called and asked rudely when I'm going to pay the rent? I explain what happened and how I was not told the whole having to evict 2 days prior. Still receiving calls.

My storage was not clean when I got it. The ceiling is falling apart. I will never rent here again.

I went to visited this location a few days ago first I wanted to say this is my first time visiting a storage location. The staff was amazing I spoke to a lady named Andreana and Sonya they were very professional, informal very nice woman .the property was well maintain and clean . Then the price sold me at the end great service and I will be happy to come back at this location again as a customer

Worst storage company that exists, if you want your possessions protected. The tenant of the unit behind mine, knocked a section of the wall separating our two units. Crushed a section of the wall causing it to collapse into my unit and destroy family heirloom antiques. I had purchased the highest limit P.S. insurance policy they sold. I tried to file a claim and the rep said it is not covered. That that type of damage is not in the included causes or the not included causes,... therefore my claim was denied. Then you would think the liability would fall on Public Storage. But of course they manage to screw you, by their contract stating on their contract that I am personally responsible for any loss or damage to my goods. I personally assume all risk of loss and Owner is not responsible no matter how the loss or damage occurred. Is this where you want to store your important possessions? I sure hope not.... Renters beware. The insurance they sell has a loophole, and they use it. Worst company I've ever rented from. CAUTION. All public storage facilities will use this same excuse method. My unit was in Oakland Park, Florida. This warning applies to all locations. See more
