NEVER RENT HERE!!!!! People live in the units inside every time I’m there I hear people in the units right before they close and smell feces. The rudest most UNHELPFUL staff you can ever come across. The gates close at 6pm so good luck if you ever need your stuff after work and they will lock you in the premises with no regard if you’re there even one minute after 6pm. Oh and they charge you on the first no matter when you open a unit so don’t fall for the SCAM “free first month” IT WILL ONLY COST YOU IN THE END. A DISGRACE OF AN ESTABLISHMENT. If I could give ZERO STARS I would!!!!!
Mouse poop all over the building. Building isn't leak-tight and recently got flooded. Place is chronically understaffed and you can't access your stuff after 6pm.
THESE Jive Turkeys were closed today.people were disappointed that they were not able to get into there already paid storages. The entry gates should not have been closed.angry customer,also the gate to the Emeryville location was locked and closed to access as well

They have the best and I mean TOP OF THE MARK 5 STAR ABOVE ALL WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. One girl there goes out of her way just be rude. Full on racists engery. I don't recommend doing business with this location. Access to you space is cut at 6pm and you will receive a email and be locked in forced to call an 800# to get out. Don't waste your time submitting a complaint you'll be targeted even more. I was yelled at on multiple occasions from across the parking lot. Their corporate contract states you loose access on day 14 after missing a payment. At 620 Harrison Berkeley, Ca they cut access when they feel like it, then laugh about it. Stay away from from this location if not don't say you weren't warned.

Thanks to the team at Public Storage for making a typically miserable task of moving in/out of a storage unit, a positive experience. Maria and Ryan, specifically, have a friendly and service-oriented way of conducting business. Their listening skills and ability to problem solve are extremely unusual in the world today and contributes to a feeling of customer support and satisfaction. Additionally, the facility is one of the best I have seen with regards to cleanliness, security, availability of equipment to assist with moving (carts) and restrooms that are kept clean. Much appreciation!

I have only been a user of public storage for 3 months and they jumped my rate. When I originally booked on the website, $34 was supposedly the full rate (it wasn’t with any discounts or anything). And I just received an email that my new rate is going to be $49 going forwards. This feels pretty sneaky, given that I moved all my stuff into the unit and it would be a hassle to move again.

This ppl here are so #uptheirarse they dont pay attention “ignore” when yu go to the office for questions definitely know how to keep a long time client also price raises are insane every couple months when yu figure already paying over $80 more then you want to I mean who does all this!? They say demand! If you go to the website they always have tons of spaces open looking for ppl to fur-fill as soon as you get in they start raising the prices like is a game instead of keeping the ppl happy and not trying to squeeze a buck off ppl that potentially can stay long terms!

There's a reason this is the cheapest Public Storage franchise around here. (Ignoring the stench of the trash dump across the street.) The limited access hours (which they will call and text you about if you leave even one minute past closing). The lack of any human staff on-site. The parking lot is on a hill -- it's NOT flat. So transporting anything massive that rolls between your vehicle and the buildings is difficult... and then...
For December and January, the single elevator that is the only way to access storage units on the second floor was shut down for maintenance! If there was actually an employee on site at the time, you could enter through the emergency fire exit staircase at the corner of the building. If you needed to move anything that couldn't be carried up or down a flight of stairs: too bad. If the employee left for the day: too bad. At the current time, the elevator is back in service. I don't know exactly how many weeks it took to repair, but it was out of service for almost the entire time I was moving, and I had to store half of my stuff elsewhere.
Awful customer experience. First, they are closed in the evenings which is unusual for a storage unit that provides key code access.
They claim to have Auto-Pay but every time I look at my account (for several months), it says I'm not enrolled, and then I re-enroll, and next I look I am un-enrolled all over again. Customer service said they would look into what was wrong with my particular account and email me in response, but I never heard any follow-up. Terrible business practices.

Unbelievably rude staff. 1st time at unit, no advice, help when asked. Entered rear door of office listed on map. Told me to never enter office from rear door again when asking for unit location. Said maybe put up a sign in reference to locating unit, yelled "I don't have to!!!! Continued eating, ignoring need for assistance. Rent elsewhere!!!!

As a long time customer at this facility I am quite pleased with their service. Maria has been especially helpful and knowledgeable about customer needs, rates, options, and benefits. She has been a reliable mainstay of PS and is both professional and capable. Do not lose her.
When we had the floods last year she was able to keep the facility open and made it possible for customers, including me, to be able to get to our lockers. We'll done.

The drawbacks preventing a perfect 5-star rating for this facility are categories that managers may not be fully able to control: (1) human-caused issues, (2) mechanical/maintenance -type issues, and (3) weather-related issues.
Examples of (1) include persons trespassing upon the property (homeless persons, thieves), acts of vandalism, and persons dumping/littering their petty trash on the property and even in 1 or 2 cases within individual storage units.
Examples of (2) include the occasional gates in disrepair, inoperational elevators, and uncleaned restrooms.
The managers and staff have done an excellent job, IMO, in maintaining the facility infestation-free (e.g., of rats, mice, termites, cockroaches,....etc.), and any past signs of pests were inevitably (1) human-caused by visitors and renters leaving/storing food items.
Past example of (3) are damages to the facility due to heavy rains (flooding) and heavy winds (power outages.)
The team here, particularly Maria, are fantastic. They have been extremely helpful and actively worked to make our move into the unit as smooth as possible. Unit was clean and easy to access. Great experience all around.

Encountered challenges with storage unit instructions from various associates, causing confusion. Manager Maria's gracious response and effort to address concerns were commendable, but District Manager Rick's unprofessional behavior, including raising his voice, marred the experience. Despite spending over $400 on the unit, Rick's lack of empathy and abrupt communication added unnecessary stress, particularly for someone with epilepsy. Facility issues, such as a malfunctioning lock (reported to be addressed) and occasionally unkempt floors, were noted. However, the facility's size, accessibility, and the staff's diligence in maintenance were positive aspects. The rating reflects dissatisfaction primarily due to the managerial approach and behavior of Rick.

I really liked it until a couple of things happened, one I bought an auction shed here. On a line sale, 90 percent of the storage was court papers and bank statements, a few person pictures. And other boxes of personal information. The other 10 percent was broken furniture, with mold and expired food with ants. No big deal I thought, a loss. The terms and conditions on storage treasures is as follows: What Do I Do With Personal Items I Find In An Auction Unit?
Any personal items such as family photographs, birth or marriage certificates, tax returns, medical or bank records, cremation ashes, etc. should be left at the storage facility. The facility staff may recommend where they would like the items left either in the unit or by bringing them to the facility office, for return to the tenant. furthermore storage treasures where public storage list there auctions says expired food must be left behind why I don't know. Furthermore more it says we can not take weapons or drugs. When I first arrived at this location in Berkeley one manager told me to stack all bank, court papers ect. In a corner of the unit and they will take care of it. So when I told them I was done except 5 boxes. Another manager told me I had to take everything no matter what it is. Even personal information. Despite storage treasures policy, and terms and conditions where they list there auctions. Then a manager told me I had to take everything but birth certificates and be out within 48 hours next time. That ment going through about 200 boxes papers to look for birth certificates. Which I already paid a lot for renting a 10 ft uhaul and had a lot out of there. About 300 dollars. I was moving the rest with my suv. Holds about 20 of the boxes at a time. And still about 80 or so boxes still left. Driving a hour and 20 mins each way 2 hours and 40 mins total, just to get rid of personal papers I shouldn't have. I called the court records office in Oakland, and the supervisor their didn't seem happy that they would give all those documents to anyone especially when several are in envelopes that have a stamp saying confidential. The attorney that left these behind should be held responsible. But today a public storage manager told me next time I only have 48 hours. And even though I know I took on to much and part of it is my fault he raised his voice at me when he said it. One last thing about this location I stood outside the office door for 15 mins while some guy paced back and forth in office doing what ever he was doing. Another person walked up and tried to get in and gave up and left. I started to leave but another employee came up. Other locations I have also waited long periods of times for someone to come to office in past. It used to not be like this. I was a customer of public storage for a long time and just opened another storage with them. When someone raises there voice at me. I may just go somewhere else. I was tempted to report back to storage treasures about being told I had to take all personal papers. Ect. But for now I have not.

The worst customer service. Their power went out and we can’t access our units in the middle of moving. No updates, no one answering calls… the main office said they will get back to us within 72 hours.

I pay for a climate control unit. Since I have heat sensitive items there. Today I went upstairs and the area was hot & stuffy because the air is OFF. THEY GET PAID TO MAKE SURE IT'S ON AND THE ROOM IS COOL. THE LADY AT THE FRONT said she didn't know it was out then said the AC guy was here! Well which one is it!? If he was here why is the 4th floor AC not turned on when people pay for it so their stuff doesn't get moldy or ruined!. I asked if I should take my stuff with me she said yes, then why HAVE A UNIT AT ALL!? WTH? IF MY ITEMS GET RUINED it's on them. Meanwhile if you see this and you pay for climate control at this location stop by and check for yourself. You are paying for it but not getting it.
THE BATHROOMS. ARE FILTHY THE LAZY WORKERS DONT CLEAN THEM. when they do they lock them to prevent customers from using them so they don't clean them lol. Extra space is much better , that's where I will go at the end of the month and suggest you check them out if you are looking for storage or a different location since the manager of this location doesn't seem to be competent at all.
I was new to public storage, the Berkeley Harrison St location had amazing customer service with all my questions about move in and getting the best rate. The place is clean, well lit, and had carts available. They also were extremely helpful and had great communication on move out. Highly Recommend.

Incredibly Inefficient customer service and support. In my experience I notice that staff is irregularly in the office, leaving new & current customers waiting for them & confused as to why there is a locked & empty office, during office hours. In their absence the toilets are unavailable for use. Not ideal, for ALL the reasons. Especially being sanitary & safety purposes. They need a better system set up with the restroom key. On the occasion that I’m “permitted” to use the office restroom, it has smelled like someone smoked in there. Tobacco & cannabis. The idea of smoking in the building that houses so much content, seems pretty ignorant & not very responsible. Being a long time Public Storage customer at other facilities, I’ve never experienced this level & lack of service. As a tenant at the 620 Harrison location, my rent was raised over $200 in a year & a half. After the second rent increase to $400, I cancelled my acct & moved out. Post termination, I was charged for another month, I called, had to leave a message & it was refunded. Yet I was charged again for some reason . I’ve called multiple times (internationally ) speaking to 2 customer service people, on hold for over 15 minutes, only to be sent to a voice mail. My bank account is still delinquent $400. With my past PS units, the service has been good. This particular location feels maybe understaffed & certainly under serviced. I’m unclear if people are undertrained, lazy or just don’t really care. Perhaps a mix of it all. Either way their system is most certainly failing if someone who is no longer a client is still getting automatically charged, TWICE, for an account that has been closed. For me, it’s unacceptable service, hence this review … they get an F. My hope in taking the time to share my experience is that it invites Management to address their staff/service protocols, assess any glitches that they might be having. Most importantly, establishing & implementing ways to improve. For the rates they charge… they can most certainly do better! Starting now! Calling 2x internationally, being on hold for ages, with no answers, just passing the buck, having to call my bank & open a claim with this is quite annoying… to say the least. So … Dear Public Storage, please send back my money & properly close out my account. I appreciate your speed in addressing this matter. Regards 🙏🏽

Update 26 July 23: Public Storage application feedback: App must have done a recent update. Previous permissions allowed location only while application was in use. Now application keeps logging me out every time I try to access an entry point with an updating saying I needed to enable location access always. Definite violation of personal device privacy.

Upon visiting the facility last week,I confirmed the storage size and monthly price, and subsequently received an email detailing the moving-in date, monthly payment, and space size. This led me to believe that everything was in order. I also had a phone conversation with Jasmine, who informed me that I needed to schedule an appointment to finalize the move-in process.
Regrettably, when I arrived for my scheduled appointment on 7/5, I was informed by Jasmine that the space I had reserved was no longer available, leaving me unable to proceed with the move-in. Furthermore, my subsequent attempt to contact a manager at the office was met with disappointment as Jasmine answered my call. She appeared indifferent to my situation and was unable to provide a resolution, abruptly ending the conversation by stating there was no available space.
This experience has raised concerns about entrusting this team with the storage of my belongings. I hope this review serves as a cautionary reminder for those considering renting storage space from them. Additionally, I found Jasmine's attitude and ability to be unsuitable for her position. It would be beneficial for her and other team members to receive further training on addressing mistakes and finding appropriate solutions when they arise.
I hope that improvements can be made to enhance the overall service quality and customer experience!

Stevi made it so easy to secure my unit. When Public Storage couldn’t accommodate my original reservation, Stevi jumped in and gave me a better unit at the same price. Moving can be extremely stressful, but Stevi made me feel comfortable. I’m very grateful to have her support.
UPDATE
On my one year anniversary, my unit rate doubled. I was stuck on the other side of the country during the Pandemic and called Stevi. She left the company, and no one acknowledged the note she promised to leave on my file. For the next 2 years, I was subject to routine increases and had no recourse. I finally got all my stuff a few months ago. That’ll be the last time I use Public Storage.
I was a bit overwhelmed after moving into my unit.. Maria, at the Harrison St. Berkeley location was SUPER helpful and accommodating..I had so many questions, in regards to the operation of the gate and elevator using my phone, to name a few.. She was so patient and kind with me..She really put me at ease until I mastered everything.. Exceptional customer service, and just a great person overall..
Maria save my life, she is a pro and super awesome person, she in a minute resolve all my doubt and my problems, I recommend 100%.

Don't be fooled by all the 5 * reviews that focus on how helpful and nice the staff is. They are both. But you won't really care after your monthly rate has doubled after a year or so. This is a predatory business! Also, the building has flooded the past 2 years. Most recently, they threatened tenants with choosing between moving out everything with ~1 week notice or have management open units and salvage/destroy/move contents. But the staff were very nice about it :-)

Due to the weather my storage unit was very wet/soaked except for things in my containers. NO assistance NO discount NO hand truck NO dollies for customer's to use for back and forth to the new/dry unit. I waited 30 minutes because Miguel stated he would assist me and that didn't happen.
very hard to find a cart to move your stuff. No excuse when they charge so much not to have MANY carts available.
Staff takes absolutely zero responsibility for the last two floods that occurred on the premises within 11mos. When asked, what are you doing to prevent future flooding? They say “nothing it’s city of Berkeley’s fault”
Manager Maria was absolutely outstanding- efficient, helpful, responsive.
I just spoke with Trinity at the Berkeley location. She was extremely helpful and professional. She was fantastic! She explained everything in detail and I was impressed with her high level of customer service. I highly recommend this location for your storage! Thank you, Trinity!

This Public Storage location has been absolutely fantastic! Through a very complicated moving process that involved moving in, then out, then back in again (wash/repeat!) Miguel was professional, incredibly helpful, and maintained a wonderful sense of humor, even when I was so tired from the move that I was unable to form a coherent sentence! :) I would not hesitate to give Miguel and Public Storage my highest recommendation.
Miguel is a rockstar and I can't thank him.enough. sad to leave this location but I am moving to a public storage in Las Vegas thanks to Miguel's help. 5 stars

I went in to see about renting a new unit. Anthony showed me around the property, the various units that were available and how the pricing works. He is very knowledgeable and provides impeccable customer service. There was no pressure to rent, just clear and concise explanations. I really appreciated his patience.

Miguel at this location was excellent. PS was having issues with their online system not completing my reservation. I had spoken with 2 reservationist at their HQ and we were told to go to the property. Miguel took over checking out the issues with the site and our reservation and was able to resolve it and get us into a new unit. Great customer service , Miguel!!
Website wont let me reserve at online price , "Hold Unit" button doesn't work on 3 different browsers or phone. 888 # reps "cant do anything about it" but are happy to reserve at full price. This is called a BAIT AND SWITCH, and is not legal. (this is a corporate issue, not Miguel's, he seems very nice)
Do business here at your own risk! They will rip you off in rent and force you to get insurance you're not required to have in CA. Then raise the rent some more for the same trashy, broke down unit. The $1 special is a SCAM!
Kept jacking up rents with no notice. I finally got annoyed and cleared out unit on day 5 of month, but they insist on charging for full month. I said no way I'd pay for a full month for only 5 days of use, especially since they certainly knew how to prorate when I moved in. Asked to speak to a manager, but instead just got hung up on. Now they'll just have to send to collections, which I'll never pay, instead of being reasonavle and reaching middle ground.
Miguel an Esther helped me move in today and they were amazing. Current customer for Hayward for 16 years and they treated me just as great here

I got an email this morning saying they would increase the rental price by almost 40% - no explanation was given. The customer service also doesn't have an answer. It is what it is, I am told.

If you'd like your rate to increase by 32% (from $259 to $341) after you've had your space for 4 months while the highest advertised rate online is still only $280 for a unit the same size, then rent here!
On the other hand, if you think that's a terrible customer experience then consider renting a storage space elsewhere.

They've raised the prices so now I'm paying triple what I was paying when I first rented the tiny little spot that I rent there. They've cut their service in half. They don't lock up the carts anymore so half the time there aren't any carts there. And then come to find out a couple of guys that were in the facility with us told us they were 10 minutes late the day before and had been locked out of their storage when they returned the next day. Their code didn't work to enter the facility. They were given a warning but they never were told that they wouldn't be able to use their code the next day. As far as storage spaces go I guess it's par for the course now that they simply offer no customer service and no actual value beyond the minimum. (Shrug)
What is scam first of all the elevators are often broken, there are no carts for you to load in your area that has happened to me at least nine times in the last two months, there is flooding not only in the lobby so you can't even get to the lobby but in addition on the way to your unit in your unit and in surrounding areas it's impossible to get to your unit without going through water. What happened to me was I was apparently scheduled for office hours access which is a Monday through Friday 824, even though I had paid for access on all the hours that they are open. I had a crock pot sitting on top of something flat I came back the next time and it was on the floor shattered they told me they wouldn't cover it even though they charge me $15 a month insurance it is a big moneymaker for them there are so many things that don't function in that place I do not recommend it!!
