Revere is a midsize city located in eastern Massachusetts, just 5 miles north of Boston. The city shares borders with several cities like Saugus and Malden, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. It's also home to Revere Beach, which is the oldest public beach in the country.

The History of Revere

The area's first inhabitants, from the Pawtucket tribe, provided help and guidance to the European settlers who arrived in the 1600s. In the 1630s, much of the land where Revere now sits was divided among Boston's most prominent residents, then combined into seven farming establishments. Part of the community was known as North Chelsea and selected as the region's town center.

In 1871 the community took the name Revere, after Revolutionary War patriot Paul Revere. The area grew quickly throughout the 19th century, until it was finally incorporated as a city in 1915.

Living and Working in Revere

The city of Revere spans 10 square miles, with water features covering about 4 of those miles. About 70 percent of Revere's developed land is dedicated to housing, which has created the city's cozy, suburban feel. For more than 150 years, Revere Beach has been one of the city's greatest attractions, and it is still a top draw today, thanks to an extensive restoration in the 1990s. Another benefit of living in Revere is the quick subway and highway access to Boston and surrounding communities.

Many Revere locals commute to Boston for work, but there are also many job options within city limits. NECCO World Corporate Headquarters and Manufacturing is Revere's largest employer, providing hundreds of local jobs. The supermarket chain Stop & Shop and movie theater Showcase Cinemas are also major job providers in the city.
