About Midvale

Midvale is a midsize city in northern Utah that’s been growing steadily since its major population boom in the 1990s. It’s part of the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area, which is anchored by the state’s capital. Midvale is locally known as the host of the annual Harvest Days celebration, which is a city tradition dating back to the 1930s. Harvest Days is a celebration of the local community and the people who call it home.

The History of Midvale

Many of the cities and towns in Utah were first settled by pioneers traveling west from various East Coast starting points. The pioneer settlers who arrived in the area where Midvale now stands immediately recognized the land’s rich potential. Lush grass and fresh water were plentiful, offering an ideal setting for farmland. In addition, the natural supplies of ores and minerals promised successful economies fueled by industry and commerce.

In its early years, Midvale was divided into two main areas: the farms and homes in the east and the mining and milling settlement on the west. The two relied heavily on each other, providing goods and services, as well as a tight-knit community. The 1870s saw the area expand into a flourishing town, welcoming many new residents who established businesses and organizations that included hotels, schools, saloons and boarding houses.
