My rent doubled+ quickly after signing up, with no noticeable improvements whatsoever. The facility isn’t cleaner, safer, or better maintained. In fact, trash is frequently left around. Raising rates without offering basic upkeep or value is unacceptable. This location prioritizes profit over customers.

RAT INFECTED NIGHTMARE
Rats completely destroyed our unit at this Public Storage. They chewed through boxes, mattresses, and even furniture. There was droppings, urine—absolutely disgusting.
Management (Jo and Joseph) knew about the infestation and did nothing. No warning, no pest control, no help. Just useless.
This place is filthy and mismanaged. Save yourself the stress—store your stuff literally anywhere else.
RAT-INFESTED STORAGE – DO NOT TRUST PUBLIC STORAGE: DISGUSTING, DANGEROUS, AND COMPLETELY NEGLIGENT
If I could give zero stars, I would. This Public Storage location is absolutely vile. After just under two months of renting two units, we discovered a full-blown rat infestation. We found multiple large dead rats, urine, feces, and an overwhelming smell throughout both units.
This was not a surprise to the staff. The property manager admitted they were aware of the ongoing rat problem, and even confessed that Terminix hadn’t been out in a while to treat the property. Yet they made no effort to notify tenants of the infestation.
That’s pure negligence.
Both of our units were affected. One was filled with visible filth and dead rats, the other covered in rat urine and droppings. No food was stored in either unit—this is simply due to horrific conditions and zero pest control.
To make things worse, management was useless. The district manager, Jo, and the property manager, Joseph, offered no help whatsoever. Completely dismissive and uninterested in fixing the situation or helping us navigate the damage. They were more concerned about covering themselves than helping customers.
The only decent person we encountered was Kristin, who actually helped clean up one of the dead rats—because I’m currently pregnant and unable to deal with hazardous waste. She went above and beyond, unlike anyone else.
Bottom line: this place is a biohazard. They knew about the problem, failed to treat it, failed to inform tenants, and let people store their belongings in a rat-infested dump. Absolutely disgraceful.
Avoid this place at all costs. Public Storage should be held accountable.
I have used Public Storage before and they were very accommodating to my needs. Recently there had been an issue and the staff members, Kirstin and Skylar, did an amazing job not only helping me to easily transfer to another unit but also did it very quickly so I was able to move out my things into another unit that same day.

I have been a public storage since 2023 to present I had previous issues which has resolved recently I had issues with rats changes I reach out to the local office at 3901 River Dr Columbia SC to speak to Lisa she explained the reason and why the rate changed she was very professional and knowledgeable exceptional by answering all my questions she expressed her concern to keep me as a happy by providing a resolution to resolve the issue and took her time to communicate back to . with a update with my account I really her service and anticipation during a great job I give her 1000 stars of approval rate she deserves the recommendation working for Public Storage Thank You Lisa I hope this review will put you on top to the next level

I’ve been at this storage unit since 2022 it’s 2024! I opened my unit today to see rat dropping all over my unit and damages to my furniture I’m so hurt. My belongings had sentimental value and yes I can file a claim but whose to say I’ll even get anything!

I have had a storage with them for some years I do not have food in my unit. Upon going to my unit 103 I come across rat droppings. The storage manager was walking by and I notified her. She seen it also and got some packets to throw in because they are supposed to kill the rats and I was told a claim would be put in and was told someone would be reaching out to me. Fast forward 3 months later noone ever contact me and a claim was put in 2.5 months later on my behalf. I am hurt because we had a house fire last March and all our things in this unit is all we have from people donating to us. I feel awful because I am not going into a unit that the property wouldn't go in because of rats. Why am I paying insurance? Why hasn't someone gone in to check the unit that specializes in pest control? I am very afraid to go into the unit without it being cleared to do so. I have made several attempts to call and I even talked with a 1800 rep with still no answers and a very outrageous bill. Sad and hurt is an understatement.

I have using the Public Storage on River Dr in Columbia SC since January 2023 Erin is really nice when I had problem with paying the fees she resolved the issue but now my issue is inside the storage unit I see rodents dropping and my property of stuff is damage and chewed up I am afraid to anything out there and taking rodents with my stuff the rates are too high to be paying for rodents to be living in the storage units if they knew that it had a issue with rodents they should give customers trap or poison inside I am very disappointed and regret putting property in their unit even with the insurance coverage will not kill the rodents I should have found a inside units paying $266.00 a month is too much for rodents to destroy my property Erin does a good job working and has no control of what is running in the units the first thing I asked were there any infestation of rodents they said no so I trusted that it was not going to be no problems since then my rates has raised from $135 to $266 of 18 mos is ridiculous i know other storage place raise their rates too if move my property out I will carry rodents out with me and I don't want that to happen I am not happy Thanks Erin for being so nice it's not your fault

They have rats or something biting through peoples belongings. I wish I took pictures but I wanted to make sure no rats came into my home and didn’t think about it then. Someone also warned me about the rats before moving out of the storage so it is with multiple units. Be careful.

For someone who "just started" not too long ago, she is GREAT with her customer service skills, and "integrity" for searching things that she wants to make sure she's correct on...for instance, she wasn't sure on how to properly take care of my account, but she made the proper calls to ensure that she handled my account correctly...not many ppl in any business would've taken the time to put in "the necessary work" to do that(not without an attitude)...and for that, she gets this "5-Star Review..."... Erin is always helpful, pleasant and available when I visit my unit. Storing things away from home is an inconvenient necessity but Erin makes it a comfortable, secure experience.
I would not had left this review, but considering that some of my things were destroyed by rodents at this location, they would not allow me to use their disposal container. So I had to make three trips to drive and dispose of my damaged items somewhere when they have a dumpster at their site. If you’re looking for a good storage space, please consider using an indoor location that is sealed from the outside.
