Renting a unit from here was a huge mistake and I completely regret it.
I was “fortunate” to get an amazing deal - dare I say a mistake in my advantage. I signed a contract for a 7x10 unit for “1/2 off until 2032”. The manager said “I don’t think that’s right” and made a call to confirm. He said that they would honor it.
I moved in at the beginning of summer.
I had mentioned to management that insulation and rat poop was dropping from the ceiling. They assured me that they had someone coming out to take care of it. Every few weeks I would ask about resolving the issue. Finally it felt like I was irritating them. They said it was up to the regional manager to get an authorized person to do it and they didn’t know what was going on. So I called their 1(800) number and figured that since they can’t take care of it locally, someone further up the chain could. I was yelled at by the woman who answered and then told me to ask to change units. I suppose I should have done this.
I should have done this because sometime leading up to Memorial Day weekend (3 months after moving in) my unit was broken into. My entire video game collection, hundreds of valuable records, and lots of other collectibles were stolen. I estimate over $50k in total.
I reported it to staff and filed a police report. What I learned was:
-Although they tout their security, the facility is really not secure at all.
-Staff will not show security video, release video, or look at video without a police report.
-once you have a police report, they won’t talk to the victim, only police
-police will attempt to contact the facility and staff will not return calls.
-staff does not like to be contacted by the victim when the victim asks them in person to please cooperate with police
-after several weeks of trying to facilitate conversation between the staff and police, you might be able to get them to take a pic of the video that they still won’t release
- The video can’t be released because “I have to figure out how to do it”
- then after a few more weeks of trying to get information on who might’ve stolen your stuff, they conveniently “don’t have cameras in that hallway”
- if you point out that they clearly do have cameras, they will amend their statement to “we don’t have any WORKING cameras in that hallway”. But what about the pic of the video that was sent to police many weeks ago? “Oh, that was the wrong camera. It was a mistake”.
- then if you suggest that maybe staff are deliberately stonewalling and obstructing you might hear a gem like “what am I supposed to do, look through all the video to find the people that stole your stuff? I have a job to do and I don’t have time for that”
-Police suggest that if you ever store my stuff in a storage facility like this place, that theft could be an “inside job”.
So, I recommend that you don’t let someone steal your stuff.
By the way, it’s really easy to break into a unit. They literally pried the roll up door off the rail. It probably too seconds
Months after my stuff was stolen, I was still in a depression and not in a hurry to move out. All that was left was shelves and heavy furniture. I doubt anyone is stealing that. What motivated me to move out was that my “1/2 off deal” was still being honored, but they jacked up the rent to the point where I was paying approximately $170 a month AFTER THE DISCOUNT!
So they were cutting me a deal on a unit that they inflated the price to $340
I’m giving 2 stars. I’m not sure why. It’s been over a year since the break in and I guess I’m less bitter and angry about it.
I only recommend keeping your stuff there if you add your own insurance on items you want stolen or damaged by rats and want to collect insurance money on it.
It’s not my style but they don’t care what happens to your possessions, so it seems like something that would be easy to do. Document everything.
Also, I don’t find Mike to be awesome at all. He set me up for my stuff to be stolen.

Worst storage unit place I've ever seen. It's rat/ nice infested and they do not care about their customers or their belongings. This place is not well maintained. If a light burns out on a unit they won't replace it. If your unit has a large gapping hole they won't repair it. Just go somewhere else because If you complain, they will retaliate with much higher rent prices. You can find way cleaner and cheaper places where your stuff won't get destroyed by rodents. They will hold you to their contract and word when it is advantageous for them only. It's a whole bait and switch. Don't fall for it.
The rat infestation here is terrible. Better off going somewhere that's clean. Pricing is astronomical and the most you're offered if your unit is destroyed from the infestation is $250. Go to NW Storage down the road.
Had my unit here for about a year and a half. About 6 months ago I learned that I was locked out of the property during the evening hours due to a claim that I propped open the gate with a piece of wood. I have never done such a thing and never would have a reason to. I have always had my code and when I told them it wasn't me and I had no idea what they were talking about they apologized and said they got the wrong person. Just found out they never changed the status to my account so basically, they have locked me out for a half a year due to something someone else did. I seriously can't believe it...

When the need be and I'm looking for storage, I always choose Public. Their online reservations are so very easy and convenient. No down payment required for a hold on a unit. When you complete your reservation online, your unit is waiting with the lock inside. Gate access is accessible through The mobile app which is nice and convenient also. No complaints here!
This was my first time having rented a storage unit and it's been a pretty good experience. The grounds are clean both inside and outside including the garbage and recycling area. Thank you! It's appreciated. I think Mike has a lot to do with why I am happy with my choice and I wanted to thank him. Mikes got a professional friendly cadence about him that makes you feel comfortable and not in the way. He has an answer for every question and he'll even walk out and show you a unit if you would like to see it. Thanks for everything Mike!!!
After having done my homework on other rentals in the area. I am happy with the price & size of the space and I feel confident that my things are safe.

I have stored things here for 30+years....notvanymore costs are off the charts..along with rat pee and poop allover things...people storing food and animals In these units...plus tons of break inside both interior and exterior..
Public Storage is no longer a good business...too greedy...
Public areas are clean, no hassle rental experience. Mike in the office is a very nice and helpful guy. Overall great experience.

Began renting a unit so I can move. When I arrive I discover that there are drops of blood in the unit and I can’t get anyone on the phone about it. I’m not interested in cleaning up biohazard in my brand new unit.

Called me to verify my padlock. Called manager back left a message for the property manager. A few weeks later went to my locker and they changed and cut my padlock. Nobody at the receptionist desk to help. Is there anyone there during business hours?? Cant get to my items I need asap. I dont know about business etiquette but shouldn't there be someone on site during normal business hours? Not happy at all.
Update: met with a worker on site and explained that a new cylinder lock and padlock was put on my locker. He tells me someone renting a spot in the same building broke into and changed locks on a bunch of lockers. Which means property was likely stolen. But I cant verify it because they cant cut the lock open. I will have to wait a few days or may have to get a lock smith. Why wasnt I notified of this???
Update 2:
Got myself a locksmith because I was told it would take a few days for the manager to come cut and drill the locks. Got into my locker and heart sank. Boxes were rummaged through. Missing a lot of items totalling at least north of $2000 including sentimental items. Upon looking around I realized there are no security cameras in this secured storage unit. This is unacceptable. On my way out I ran into two other parties with the same grievances.
Update 3:
Took important items that were left in my locker home where it is safe. I dont feel safe putting my stuff here now and you should think the same too. I looked inside the indoor storage areas and they dont even have cameras installed anywhere. I dont even know if they have security patrol the premises. I ended up filing for insurance claim since I paid the extra money for the coverage ($5,000). We will see how this goes. Went home and turned on the TV and watched fox news. There so happens to be a story that is shown that a guy in tigard has been burglarizing Public Storage since 2022. He just got caught for it but the tigard PD said it took a while. Coincidence??? How long has public storage known this and not done anything???? Since 2022.
Final update:
Based on my research and asking for advice, I've decided to get the hell out of Public Storage asap. The local PD, insurance claim, and especially Public Storage wont do a damn thing about my stolen items. Pending my claim, I'm no longer trusting any public storage facilities. Do your research and you will find that all storage businesses will do the same thing. Get your own renters insurance. Sure than can replace the monetary value but not the sentimental value of the items you will likely lose.
Stay away from Public Storage.
Beware of this storage facility. Major rat problem. First day we moved in we found rat feces all over. They got into majority of my boxes and I spoke with two different employees about the problem, both promised to call an exterminator. After a week I went back to collect photos for insurance and there was even more feces and tons of dust and insulation all over my unit. I am not happy and I am planning to move all my belongings elsewhere.
Every time I visit the Hogan Drive location the staff is always helpful and pleasant.

GREAT hospitality and very nice landscape. No grass needs cutting bc all asphalt. Awesome some even have the position to house central Air and heat. Very great storage unit. Even though it's closed at times you can still start a unit for yourself at any time just follow websites terms and conditions

Front office clerk rude. Not wanting to give us information. Been there for less than six months and they've raise the price from $100 to now wanting $160. Freaking outrageous! Looking at other places.
Their hours say access every day until 9pm. We went there at 7 and they had unplugged the access so no one can get in.

Once in awhile nobody will show up to work, which can be a good thing unless you're accused of loitering and they put you on restriction of office hours only and you have to walk through the lobby to get to your storage unit.

We've been overcharged every month for a climate controlled unit. When our unit was in fact not in a climate controlled area. Hidden monthly fees.
We get out before our date to be out and we get charged for another month's rent.

I couldn't figure out if I needed storage till the moment before my move. I was able to get into a unit easily and it helped with the stress of moving! Great experience all around!
Avoid this place!! Won a unit Here from an auction. Tried reaching out for 4 days with no response. So I finally decide to drive there 30 min commute 1 way. To find out manager wouldn't be there until after 2. So I leave and come back after 2. First thing he says when walking to the unit is there isn't even a lock on it. Red flag #2. Units are supposed to remain locked until buyer comes to clear it out. Super shady!! Well he opens the locker and it's empty. Definitely some shady stuff going on!!! Steer clear. This is the 2nd unit I've bought out of portland and the first one was a hassle also. Never again will I buy a unit out of portland oregon.

The property manager is absolutely useless. I wouldn’t even give it one star, but that’s the only option. I read the three units here and they never would respond to my calls or return them. You cannot get a hold of them through the 800 number unless you want to rent. Mike, is the manager that I dealt with, if you don’t want to lose more business, you need to find somebody that does that likes their job. Next time I need storage I will absolutely find somebody other than Public Storage. What a horrible experience.
Property manager was very rude. Not only was I told the wrong information they cut my lock and is trying to put my stuff up for auction all because I haven't paid for February yet and was told that I have two week's to pay my balance and only 8 day's later I try to get into my storage to grab all of my things which happen to be everything I worked hard for and I'm told that I can't get into my storage because I owe for February when February 1st I was able to go into my storage but today which is the 8th I was not able to get into my storage unit. Called customer service and they couldn't do anything for us, just told us to hurry up and pay my bill before my stuff gets auctioned off.... Thanks 🙏

I like the fact that you can open the gate via your phone cuz if you ever forget your code it's not a problem. Prices are extremely outrageous but what are you going to do? 86 bucks a month for a 5x5 in my opinion is highway robbery.
The person that is at the property is not very nice and discriminatory and he just was really smug. And the unit I was going to rent the stuff on the ceiling was coming off like somebody tried to get in there and they wouldn’t give me the same price for a different unit even though they had the same unit but he kept saying oh that’s the only the online price. The corporate office is really amazing though and I would’ve gave a five star if it was about them, so I want to give them credit for helping me and refunding my deposits! I’m giving the person that that checks units there two stars at that location.

I highly do not recommend! The manager is never on-site, or at least the doors are always locked during “business hours”. The access gate was broke and the worst part is that it smells like dead bodies (not joking at all). If you’re the manager reading this, I would go check out the storage units in the very back.
Way over priced!!!! They charged my account twice for one month payment and their message center in the app is not helpful when contacting them. They are very inconvenient in contacting them!!!!!
Went to purchase boxes during regular business hours. No person was in the office. Called the number on the door. First person told me they would contact the person on site and send them up. Never happened. Second person said they would transfer me to the store, but transfered me to a third person. Third person, Patricia, asked me if the lights were on, told me I should just wait, then laughed at me before transferring me to the phone in the empty store. Called again, fourth person told me they couldn't do anything and transfered me back to Patricia. Don't waste your time like I did. Don't even go there. And don't call the number on the door or Patricia will make fun of you for expecting the store to be open during its own operating hours. Horrid.
If it wasn't for Shelly coming across town from her location, our day would have been ruined. We made an appointment for 11am to transfer to a smaller unit due to our unit having a high increase to $172.
We arrived and no one was at the property. We waited 20 minutes then I called the 800 number and they were of no help either. When it got to be 45 minutes wait I called again and a gentleman called another facility,on Powell to assist us, they didn't want to be bothered since it was their property.
Meanwhile my husband got a call From Shelly who saved us by calling to say she would come to help us,all the way from her property up on 202nd. She was asking and offered us a rent reduction so that we wouldn't have to transfer at all. She was so kind and helpful, we really thanked her.
When I talked to the manager
Mike earlier in the week about the move he never offered a reduction to help us out. Also when I asked if someone would be there on Sunday he assured us there would be and they would be aware of how to do the transfer. That never happened .
Shelly was the one to come across town and help us with a sweet and helpful attitude never complaining at all.
Management at our location needs to improve. The prior manager Angel was very helpful.
Big, they need to level the floors at the entrances to the inside storage areas. The carts don't roll over the entrances very well when full.
