About Springfield

Springfield is a large city in Ohio's Clark County, located on the edges of the Mad River, Beaver Creek and Buck Creek. It's the hub of Greater Springfield and only about 25 miles from Dayton. One of the area's most notable attractions is the Little Miami Scenic Trail, an 80-mile hiking trail that begins in Springfield and ends near Cincinnati.

The History of Springfield

Springfield was founded by James Demint in 1801, and in 1818, the city was designated the county seat of Clark County. Early in the city's history, Springfield was home to a variety of companies, including patent offices, magazines and publishing companies. The Kelly Springfield Tire Co. was created in 1894, helping expand the growing city. In the early 1900s, the city welcomed 10 different automobile companies, including Brenning, Bramwell and Westcott. The city was officially incorporated in 1913.
