Exorbitant Rate Increases…Worse than I’ve ever seen. For a tiny 5x10 storage unit the price just kept going up by leaps and bounds. I had to close it and use another business. I believe these Pasadena locations are wayyy overpriced because of the location close to colleges and lots of apartments. Locations further away and other businesses are much cheaper. Didn’t receive the best customer service when closing out the unit and NO REFUND or PARTIAL CREDIT provided when only using the unit for 3 days of the month!!

Aside from the initial renting process and the friendly (albeit powerless) staff, my experience with Public Storage was terrible. I rented a 10 x 15 space on the first floor at a good price-not a special deal-regular price. After five months my rent increased 38%. Nine months later, another 14.6%. When I moved out after a year and three months, Public Storage had increased the rent by 58% or $220 per month! Four or five months after move-in, my unit was partially flooded. By the time I discovered it, every bottom boxe (mostly books, dvds, towels and bedding) on one side had been damaged and mold had set in (BTW-insurance doesn’t cover mold). I reported it immediately and asked them to determine the cause. Was it the recent heavy rains? Another unit? Could they check the hallway next time it rained? I was told they would need to ask Corporate to do that and have someone sent to do that. Which they didn’t do. All I was offered was to move my entire 10 x 15 unit to another space-TWO BUILDINGS AWAY ON THE SECOND FLOOR. Oh, and if it took me longer than three days to do it, I’d be fined each additional day. However, they MIGHT be able to waive the fine-but they’d have to ask Corporate. I did get a whole $25 off on my next month’s rent which didn’t even begin to cover the $144 rent increase I was given the following month. The 10 x 15 units have no lighting, you need to provide your own. The week I moved out, the two overhead hallway lights closest to my unit were burned out so it was even darker. I asked the staff about replacing the bulbs and was told, “the vendor had been called.” Corporate handles that, too apparently, and not well. The facility provided only two residential size moving carts for an entire building. You can’t count on them being available. The only bathroom facility is in the main building. Near the end of my time there, one of the units near mine was storing gasoline as the hallway reeked of it. Overall, just a horrible experience. The staff is only empowered to rent out units and type notes in the computer to Corporate. They have no decision-making power. I moved to StorBox Storage in Pasadena and highly recommend it over the nightmare of Public Storage. • Lower pricing and no ridiculous rent increases • Super clean units • Lighting in 10 x 15 units • 6 industrial size carts per building-one is always available • Bathroom facility in all buildings • Free moving truck rental for larger units • Staff empowered to make decisions on the spot

Really helpful staff. I called on the morning with a few questions and Eric answered them and helped me figure out what was best for my needs. When I got here though - the unit had water in it from the rain. They promptly found me another unit that was bigger but at the same price AND they did an inspection of other units to see if there might be a similar situation going on because of the rain AND called for immediate repairs. Overall the facility is easy to use and access. Ricardo was great!

Really clean facility, staff (Ricardo) is fantastic, and I felt safe when I was there. Great storage center!

The people who work there in person are great. Sadly, the company has lost its way. The monthly rent for my large unit was recently increased by $150. I objected, but the onsite team said there was nothing they could do to help. So I sent an email to Mr. B. (the district manager) but he did not respond. So I had to spend many hours vacating my unit by the end of the month to avoid being overcharged again. The day after I vacated, my unit was made available on their website, for $146 LESS (per month) than what they were charging me!! So me, a loyal customer, gets gouged - while a brand new customer gets a much better price (until they flip the bait-and-switch). After I posted the first version of this review, Mr. B called my home (not my main number), spoke briefly to my wife, and demanded to know her name and who she was. (Wow!). She texted me Mr. B’s office number, so I called him right back, but I got his VM and left him a message asking him to call me. That was maybe 7 hours ago, and he still hasn’t called me. So, beware! Don’t get too comfortable in your units. They may significantly jack up your rate at any time - and you can either “pay up” or vacate! A “real person” won’t help you - so good luck chatting with their bots!

Although I like the management of the storage space, and the cleanliness, the Public Storage company is, in my opinion, gouging clients. In five years since we rented our first space, the price has gone up over 200%, for the same size space. Every six to 12 months, the price has been raised by 30-40%, necessitating our having to move to another space in the same complex, often the same size or even larger, which rented for considerably less. The price increases have no logical basis in inflation or costs that I can determine. Unfortunately, Public Storage has a near monopoly on storage in our area, so price competition is minimal. Rather than increase rates by, say, 10% every year, which I could handle and budget for, the company uses a computer algorithm to constantly change and raise rates with no relationship to economic indicators.
