I came here from indiana to store my boat and after a 17 hour drive I got to the storage unit and Brittney had vacated me from the property "claiming" I had told her to. The night I arrived I had to sleep on my boat in a dry dock because these people would not fix their mistake and would not open the door so I could store my boat. I called numerous times to get this resolved and just get a refund and all I get is angry people and getting hung up on. Never again will I store anything at this place.

A publicly-traded, self -insured REIT ownership. Across the Country-wide facilities maintenance issues & client safety are a problem. If you are bodily injured, your property damaged or stolen be prepared to seek remedy in the Courts. Purchase your own insurance, not theirs (PS lost legal class action suits requiring clients to purchase theirs). Rents are raised regularly (& often capriciously) without additional maintenance & upkeep performed. New clients receive rate reduced benefits only. Contrarily, the on-site facility manager at this facility, Susan, is great.

Looking for place to store our belongings following the sale of our first condo while we look for another. The Public Storage location was extremely close to our condo, and we booked online. When we arrived, we met Sue at the location and she explained how everything works and showed us our storage unit. She made sure our gate codes worked, as well as the locks. Everything was extremely clean and we are glad we selected Public Storage at this location.

We rented 2 units, one climate controlled to store furniture and 1 non climate controlled unit for household and garage items while we renovated our home. Sue, the on site manager is amazing. She was super helpful showing us the available units. The units were super clean and secure. It took longer than expected for us to complete the work on our home. Our belongings remained clean and dry during very hot, cold, and rainy months. We rented from September through February. Every time we stopped by, Sue was answering phones, selling packing supplies, showing units, and keeping the facility spotless. If you need storage, I highly recommend this location.

I called on 11/30/20 to upgrade my unit on 5 Yacht Cove Dr (Hilton Head). Shana tells me that it’s not possible to upgrade, she would have to “vacate” my current unit then I would have to make a new reservation for a 10x10 unit - the problem with that (other than it not making sense) was that I hadn’t moved in yet so it couldn't be done until I moved in…and I had to come in to the office to do it. I mentioned I didn’t mind changing my move in date from 12/3 to 12/1 and coming in but I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose the 10x10 unit…she couldn’t hold it for me (of course) but at least she offered to speak with her Regional Manager (didn’t get the name). Shana calls me back later that morning to say that her Regional Manager confirmed that I need to “vacate” my current unit but not to worry I would get a full refund. I then asked her about the 10x10 unit to which she gave me the price of $162, though online it was $171. Shana was not able to explain the price difference and said she couldn’t reserve it for me…I again had to come in. I reserved the unit online because it was obvious I was about to lose both units (this was used against me later on). As Shana finish the “vacate” process she realizes that she didn’t have the option to refund the $24.00 Admin Fee. She again says she will call her Regional Manager. I later receive a call from Patrice who introduces herself and pauses as if I should have expected a call from her. She then tells me that the $24.00 Admin Fee is non-refundable and what I should have done is upgrade my unit not “vacate” and book a new one online…(screams on the inside!) I keep my cool and waste my time explaining what actually happened earlier that morning. I am again promised a call back because the Regional Manager has to be consulted…again. The next call is to tell me that I will in fact get a full refund. When I bring up the price difference, I’m told that because I booked online they couldn’t offer the lower rate of $162…what a joke! Did I mention how much this interrupted my work day? I call again the following day after waiting all day for the return call that was promised. Patrice had no update for me just the “promise” that I would receive my refund, and before hanging up she informed me that I would need to ask for Sue if I called later in the week. Great, a third person to do absolutely nothing! Sue leaves me a message the following day (Wed 12/2) saying that the $24 Admin Fee was credited back. I waiting until it showed up on my bank account. It never did. I called again on Sat 12/5 and left a message for Sue because I had yet to receive a refund for the first unit and they had already charged me over $200 for the second one. Sue leaves me a message later in the day to say that the credit had been issued - I’m surprised she didn’t defer to her Regional Manager. When I showed up on Thursday 12/3 I had to drive around aimlessly looking for my unit, thinking that I had the wrong address because again their untrained employees that cannot do anything without consulting the Regional Manager, failed to tell me that they have two facilities, each located on opposite sides of the street (not easily seen from the street unless you know what you’re looking for especially at night). I finally walk in to the unit only to find the lock inside the dirty unit with no packaging…their lock return policy says it has to be in the original packaging in order for a refund to be issued…this is yet another way they stole my money. Oh! and the place reaked of naphthalene! I hope they know that does little to get rid of rodents and termites... As of today, 12/14, I have yet to receive my refund. However, next month’s invoice was reduced by $24. So I am being forced to pay for a second month if I want to be credited for THEIR MISTAKE and inability to train their employees. Needless to say, $0 compensation has been offered for this awful experience…at this point I just hope to eventually get the money they stole from me. Do not rent here. It's dirty, the staff is untrained, and you pay for their mistakes.

Ah, it's a place where you store stuff... What more do you want to know? My cost for my unit went up, so now I'm paying about twenty dollars more a month... I didn't see that coming. I guess I didn't read the fine print, or they just change the price to their liking. Anyway, it's a place to store stuff.

Don't let this company affect your whole vacation. I called ahead and spoke with Sue. I made specific arrangements for after-hours access as I knew I would be arriving late after driving 6 hours with our boat, which I was to store in my rented outdoor parking spot. My wife arrived early, did the paperwork, and got two codes. One for regular gate access, and one for after-hours access. I had also made arrangements to have 24 hour access for the rest of the week since we we're planning to fish into the night and would not be returning before the regular 9pm access. When I arrived the first night at 11:15, neither of my codes worked. I settled down to spend the first night of my vacation sleeping in my truck, as the resort area does not allow boat/trailers inside. After struggling to get comfortable in the truck, I decided to try calling corporate customer service and after holding for a long time, got a hold of a guy who after hearing the story, made an attempt to override the gate locks and let me in. I parked my boat and left for my rental home, exhausted by the hassle and delay . I came to pick up our boat for an offshore fishing trip that was scheduled to last into the night. I stopped by the office to get a new code for the late access. I spoke with Travis who apparently knew about the overnight gate fiasco from the message we left on the answering machine when we were trying to get in. He looked at the two cards either two codes and said that the after hours code was actually an auction access code. He called his boss, Sharon to get the after-hours code approved and she said no. Now these people, who took my money, made a deal that inspired me to tow my boat six hours, burn extra fuel, and spend part of my vacation trying to sleep in my truck, are going back on their promises and preventing me from the night fishing trip my family has been promised. Despite what they politely commit to when they are taking your money, they will not honor those promises. Don't let them take your vacation time and hard-earned money!

We have been trying all day to rent an available unit. We are three hours away from Hilton Head; have offered credit cards, debit cards to pay for the unit. SUE will NOT take our money. We are trying to PAY for a unit sight unseen, and "they can not do that" so all of these great reviews are bogus. We were going to fill out a contract here in Columbia at another Public Storage, and fax the contract to them, and "they can not do that" Who does not take money for payment? The service is absurd. Ridiculous actually

Public Storage. Too big to hear their customers calling… To start, I have never posted an online review before, either positive or negative. I would leave 0 stars here if possible. My husband and I rented a unit with Public Storage a little over 6 months ago at the Chesnee Highway location in Spartanburg, SC. We received a market rate at the time of our rental that was in line with competitors in the area (not a super low teaser rate). Recently, we were given a 14% rate incre...ase over the rate we have been paying. Such an increase cannot be justified by increases in operating costs, and naturally, we wanted to speak with someone at Public Storage about the change. It is nearly impossible to get a real person on the phone with this company. The customer service number is an endless array of automated options, and we were only able to gain access to a real person with Public Storage after learning of the “secret method” of pretending to have lost our gate code and then pressing ‘00’. This insider trick will finally direct you away from the automated menu and direct you to a real person. Disappointingly, Public Storage’s customer service department won’t discuss rates with you. I also obtained contact information for the Public Storage district manager for the area, both office and cell phone numbers. I have left messages at both numbers every few days for the past two weeks and regrettably have yet to receive a return phone call. All messages were polite, simply asking for the opportunity to discuss the 14% rate increase. If you are considering becoming a customer of Public Storage, I caution you that the relationship is very one-sided. If we were to not pay our rent, I imagine that we would receive a call from Public Storage very quickly. When we need assistance, however, I just find myself endlessly pressing ‘1’ to return to the main menu. I hope your experience is different. This review is not intended in any way to be negative toward to onsite manager, Martha, who does not determine the Public Storage rate policy. She has been unbelievably helpful to us during our tenancy. See more

This was my first purchase of storage services -- Sue McGovern is the manager at this location and I cannot say enough good things about her level of service and attention to details. When I came in last year with a need to arrange for storage immediately and a need to coordinate with the small crew who helped transfer my stuff into the storage unit, Sue did everything she could to make the whole storage experience totally pleasant -- I cannot sing her praises enough. She helped me understand the setup and the billing process after the promotion for the first month ended. Today I was there to vacate my storage after 10 months -- once again Sue made everything work out smoothly for me, even though I had forgotten the key to the lock on my unit. Great experience all around. Clean, well maintained facility, and excellent administrative processes. I would come back here again and highly recommend it to others!

Facility and local management was very good. Sue was always available and helpful with property issues. Great location. However, California has gotten too greedy with their prices. The percentage increase over the last few years must be significant.

First, their specials are falsely advertised, they call requesting payment before your due date, threatening you with a $20 late fee if bill isnt paid before the due date. Horrible place to go to fir storage needs

This is a very well run Public Storage location. SUE was super helpful in helping me choose the correct unit for my needs. The site is very clean and organized. I highly recommend this location.

The property manager Sue is extremely helpful. The unit we rented is extremely clean and easy to access. There was a slight issue regarding the reserved rate but the issue was rectified very quickly and satisfactorily. I highly recommend this location for its excellent staff, cleanliness and location.

I visited the property to get some information about storing my items in November. The clerk Brittany was wonderful she took her time with me this being my first time storing. She showed me units knowing I wasn't renting until next month. I will definitely give this company my business when I'm ready to store

Moving is such a pain and Sue was a total doll. She was funny and friendly and made the experience a little easier, good job !

I went to this mid-Island facility on Monday to check it out and get rental details. Sue was very helpful. She showed me 2 different-sized spaces to help me determine which would be most suitable for our storage needs. I bought a few boxes from Sue. On Wednesday my husband and I returned to sign up for a unit and to put a couple of boxes in our new space. I liked that the site was clean and that Sue seemed to be a conscientious manager on site.

Convenient location for storage on south end of HIlton Head. Sue, the GM, is very helpful and diligent, and the prices seem competitive. A nice operation.

Just today, I showed up unannounced needing a climate controlled unit and she didn't have any available. She made a call and had Robin at another location hold a unit for me. Our store has several units at this Public Storage facility and has for quite a few years. In all of these years we have never had a bad experience. I needed a place to store my boat trailer while my boat was docked at Shelter Cove for our vacation. Public Storage was very convenient and the price was reasonable. The property manager was very helpful and the property seemed very secure.

This Public Storage facility was the best. The property all around was well-kept, easy to manuever with a pull behind trailer and the staff was very friendly. I would high recommend using this facility to anyone.

I found the people helpful and responsive, especially Sue. It would have been much more efficient if I was told about insurance and a lock as additional charges before my arriving at the business to store my stuff.

Josie and Sue are friendly and helpful ladies working the registration desk. Of course your price is a little more that described to entice you, as you HAVE to have purchase insurance & if you don't think to bring your own lock you buy one, but overall a great experience. A couple was finishing their transaction when I arrived and they said, this location was the cleanest and best one around! Nice to know I picked the right one from the get go. They often come around and check on who is entering the units during business hours.

I rented the only "climate controlled" storage unit at 5 Yacht Cove Drive, HHI Public Storage. On moving possessions in we notice old water marks near the outer wall on the floor and so put more valuable items on pallets in that location. Since that move-in for OVER a month the exit security gate was broken. The local manager had reported it, but nothing was done until last week to fix it. When I entered my unit just prior to that, I found there was a ceiling/roof leak in the corner over some photo storage boxes. Fortunately no major damage to the photos. This was reported and was fixed quite promptly. Due to the lack of security from the broken exit gate left open, I paid only $100 of my $126 rental, believing that was not an exorbitant amt to withhold. Public Storage then on its own managed to withdraw the $26 from my bank account as an automatic withdrawal. I am appalled they could do that. I never received or heard any apology for the gate not being fixed in a timely fashion nor their disregard for their own contract. The local manager at 5 Yacht Cove Dr. is blameless as she had reported the broken gate when it occurred. For a public corp. Public Storage is obviously not customer oriented, only in their profit. Beware
