Public Storage recently opened its largest storage facility in the country, with the most self-storage units, just over the Hudson River from Lower Manhattan. The cheap storage is located in Jersey City, an easy train or ferry boat ride away from NYC, for more affordable storage near Manhattan.
For the new Public Storage Jersey City, the company repurposed and restored a 100-year-old, block-long cold storage building in the historic Powerhouse Arts District of downtown Jersey City, near the Hudson River Waterfront. The storage facility offers a range of unit sizes from 3 feet by 5 feet to fit boxes, seasonal gear and small furniture to larger units up to 20 feet by 10 feet to fit a home during a remodel, or a small business. There is surely plenty of room to store new purchases from the nearby Newport Centre mall.
The location is easily accessible via Interstate 78 and the Holland Tunnel and is also near the Grove Street PATH stop. It offers free parking, a loading dock, and all climate control units indoors. The manager lives on site for extra peace of mind.
As one of the last, most affordable neighborhoods near Manhattan, and an urban cultural and business hub it its own right, Jersey City has been growing at a fast pace. Glass tower office and condo buildings have sprung up next to restored lofts and lively restaurant options. Been here for years. Safe, clean, courteous, stress free. Folks just remember the last few/first few days of every month is going to have movers anywhere you go. This place has indoor and outdoor parking for gated trucks.

I love this storage unit! the place is kept incredibly clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. big shout out to Brad who made the process extra easy and simple for me, and helped make sure I was in the right unit! his customer service skills were great and helped create a super seamless process.
John and the team at Public Storage are solid. They run a tight ship and keep the place clean, organized and efficient. I was a little upset about losing our space, when we had an unpaid bill, and they are helping me out, to get back on track.
I'm updating my review to 5* after John (one of the managers) came through on a project we're working on that required a lot of coordination with the storage space. All went well with my team and accessing our stuff from the space easily, so I have to give props to John and his team for going the extra mile.
The parking and loading docks work really well, for getting in and out. For Jersey City residents, this is the way to go.
Really happy with the service. I went to look at the facility and the size of the storages. Will really went above and beyond to help and ensure I get the best deal for my requirements.

Nice staff , safely , quality , It's a little expensive
Public Storage in downtown Jersey is a glaring example of a business that demands a thorough investigation into its questionable practices. In just nine months, I have experienced three increases in my monthly storage fees, in less than a year, the most recent of which came without any notification. Each time I tried to appeal these hikes, my requests were denied as if it were standard procedure. I lost access to my unit through their app after just one day, and on November 2nd, I found myself completely locked out, needing to engage front desk personnel to regain access, which was both frustrating and inconvenient.
In light of these issues, I have written a detailed letter with supporting documentation addressed to the New Jersey Attorney General’s office. My experiences have convinced me that this storage company should be avoided at all costs. I truly wish I had been warned before entrusting them with my belongings.

we were put in a pinch because of parade road closures in Manhattan, and were unable to move out on the last of the month as we had planned. John O. was quick to escalate the situation and was able to figure out an extension for us in under 30 minutes, instead of being forced to pay for an entire extra month. I will 100% be using this Public Storage facility going forward for any storage needs in the NYC area

We’ve had a unit at PS for 2 years now . We recently changed from a larger unit to a smaller unit. Latoya made the process so easy for us! She is kind and patient (I messed up the online reservation which she immediately fixed for us). The front desk staff in general have always been helpful to us. Overall , the location has easy in&out access once you learn to use the elevator code properly :) . I bring my foldable wagon for convenience , but, there are plenty of push carts available too!

The place is safe, well lit, and clean. This location is so easy to get to — you can see the entrance from the Lightrail stop, it’s a block from buses, and a couple blocks from the Path station.
If you’re on the fence, choose this place, forsure.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! The front desk staff are uneducated, rude, impatient and racist. They blocked me from going to my storage unit when I told them I forgot my keys, even after I showed them my rent proof of the unit in the app. They sneakily inactivated my code to access the elevator and would not let me go up until I booked an appointment with the locksmith “they have been working with”(interesting strategy of scamming you into paying extra money, huh?). They lied to me there’s no phone service upstairs and tried to control where I go. As a service user, I found their behavior lack of professionalism and integrity. What’s even more unacceptable is their racist behavior of cutting me off in the middle of conversation and told me “I don’t understand what you are saying”. Worst experience of renting, 10/10 don’t recommend.
Very personable service. Wil the rep who helped me get setup made sure to inform me of all details so that I wont be surpized later on and was ready to accomodate to make sure I was happy with what I got. Not to mention that the place is very well maintained and spotless clean.

The staff member Eric made sure that all customer services were met he went above and beyond to help me get my items moved in safely from chicago to this location he even helped me and my pregnant wife move up to our units i appreciate this kind of gesture and help moving into a new state i want to give him his flowers doing this for me it was a smooth transition and it definitely helped me. Brad went above and beyond to help me move everything downstairs and load it into my Lyft piece by piece. He was incredibly patient and kind, even though it was nearly closing time (around 6:50 PM). To top it off, I didn’t have any cash on hand, but Brad reassured me that it was no problem. His exceptional service and kindness truly stood out. I Had to store all my belongings for 3 months. I showed up one day 2 hours before closing because I needed to get something from there ASAP. Tripes my storage unit was a mess and I had trouble digging through the piles of stuff I have. It was almost closing and Brad( a manager) showed up to help, he was so helpful and he made sure I got what I need, in the process he was also very understanding and wasn’t mad at me for staying late.

This is the best storage facility I’ve ever been a customer of! The staff is very friendly and helpful (shoutout to Will, Kristin, Gwen, Brad and Carmen). I’ve seen the staff treat all customers with the same level of kindness and attention, not just new customers. Unlike other storage places, there is always someone at the desk and the office stays open until 7PM.The facility is kept very clean and having indoor parking is amazing. As a solo female, I also feel very safe walking around the building with the bright lighting and security cameras everywhere. Definitely recommend!

Updated Aug 2024- yet another price increase after they already raised it by $20 a few months ago. Ridiculous, it comes out of no where, hits hard and there's no justification for price gouging. Their costs aren't higher, the biz is run on a low pay skeleton crew, Floors are sometimes not swept or mopped for months (noticed the same candy & soda floor stain near by storage space), employees will wander on floors occasionally blasting their music from their phones (x rated lyric rap or death grunge hardcore screaming) and this year twice the elevators were broken and needed repair so you had to wait awhile when another is overused. Not exactly premium high quality they're charging for.
Updated Jan 2022 review: Thank you for extending the hours to a 7pm closing for most days (back to what it was pre-pandemic), makes a big difference. Still happy about the knowledgeable helpful staff, and security. Not crazy about price increase for my extra storage space but will stay put for now.

This facility has been generally clean and safe, but the rent prices have continually increased - what was an incredible deal 2-3 years ago has now increased almost 10X, frequently increasing as much as 50% in a quarter. I now pay significantly more than I would for the equivalent square footage in a luxury apartment.

Received a notice my small unit rate will be raised $20 in a month, after it was raised 6 months ago by $20 and the same 3 months previous to that. Ridiculous greed how they squeeze good customers who pay steady ahead of time, don't complain, aren't dirty or damage things. AVOID these price gougers.

John of Jersey city is very helpful and very pleasant. He has a great customer service skills. The location is clean and neat.
The service is 5-star but not the prices. You are signing a month-to-month lease. During my 8 years as a customer with multiple sized units, my rent has increased about 80 percent. So I moved out to Bayonne where property taxes are much, much less and have several unusual sized 10x9 units with a small regional facility. I am paying 60 percent of what I was before. Customers tell me here that they raise the rent about 5 percent a year. That is fine with me.
Staff has told me the large national storage facilities raise prices regularly as high as you can bear until you move out.
Also, one other comment: The business hours. At this writing Public Storage in Jersey City was 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. My Bayonne facility is 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. It is cheaper throwing most of your goods out and buying them again on Amazon when you need it.

I had an excellent experience with Latoya at Public Storage. I got a very tiny room with a colonne in the middle of my storage(5*10). She helped me out transfer to another storage room and put in the same level as my old room. She provided clear and concise instruction. Renting here is the worst experience of any storage facility I've ever used. Employees could not care less, blast terrible music with no regard for customers, give only wrong information compared to the website and Public Storage policies. Prices increased 450% over 5 years then again by 70% over 8 months. Avoid at all costs.
The majority of positive reviews are because they solicit reviews in exchange for discounts. This was offered to me at my initial contact and again with my girlfriend's contract.

I started using this facility in June 2023 and most interactions with the staff have been positive. On site, everyone is usually very helpful but over the phone it usually depends on who randomly picks up the phone in the office. Today, I had an extremely positive experience with Will over the phone. Not only was he knowledgeable about the facility and services the company provides, he also listened to my needs after explaining to him my situation and helped to figure out a solution for me. I would highly recommend any current/future renters to ask for Will. His commitment to the company and level of service he provides is commendable and goes above and beyond. Please continue training your staff to provide customer service just like Will.

Recently checked in Jersey City 5x8. I did my research first, and overall this place checked all the boxes. But they get 5 stars for Will - he was so helpful at check in. Service does matter very much at this location, and I love that! Look no further if you need storage in JC, they have people on site to help when you come, plenty of loading docks, and huge spaces for a great price with a smile.

This is my third time posting positive comment about this storage. I am living nearby and is using their service evey now and then. Service here is amazing. Every staff here is nice and helpful. There's a magical staff name John G. Here's what happened yesterday. My key was stucked in the lock accidentally and my stuff were still inside the storage. I can't turn my key at all. So I went to the front desk and seeker for help. A moment later he came. John gently used some simple tools and opened the lock without any damage!
The 5 stars are for Will who provided amazing customer service! He showed me so many units until i liked the one i wanted to rent, gave good advice what would fit into the space and what won't and super helpful tips on everything else. He even helped another couple who was struggling with an offer they thought they had.
In terms of storage itself, the pro's is that it is close to most of the high rise buildings and is a clean secure location. the pricing varies widely so you could end up with a very high rate. and they don't offer 24x7 access is which is quite painful (in manhattan you can get 24x7 access)
Staffs are amazing and very helpful. But I really do not like that the company force their own lock and insurance to you. I only put children toys in the storage and do not need $15 a month insurance for that. Edit 1: I really hate it when they increase rate by almost 50%. Getting a better one soon. Do not come here guys. E2: just received "Customer Appreciation Promotion credit of -$43.00 on your account each month for the next 6 months until 12/01/2024". It is good but please do not do that again. 5% every year or 2 is ok. 50% just pure robbery and against all your loyal customers. DON'T DO THAT !!!

The location is good and clean.
Their price policy? well... I started paying $31.99, second month $78.98, ninth month: $98.17 and twelfth month: $121.63.
So, the first time they incremented the rate I left a review, I got a call from a PS employee offering me a discount, inviting me to remove my 1 star review and mentioning that I could always call her to get a better price. I accepted the discount and I removed the review.
When I received the new increase email I did what she said and I called her, however she was too busy to pick up the phone or to reply to my voice messages (or to my emails). So, after 1 month she replied and increased the price.
Now? same situation. new increase, she is not replying (yes, I called to the location and their answer is "only this person can help you with this").
So, long story short: From $31.99 to $121.63 in less than a year.
Be ready for this increases, be ready for a none existing customer service and be ready for a nice and clean location.
DONT GO HERE THEY STEEL!!!
PS specifically Damien. He/she was nasty cursed at me when I made the claim then a regional manager got involved and she was rude as hell and told him to get involved and had him attack me when I got to the storage facility. They broke into my storage facility and I know because I have a mini cam in my storage and when I brought it to their attention, they basically forced me to get my stuff out within the same day and now I am in litigation please be safe and be careful they do break into your unit. They also change the rates without warning and if you have auto pay because they don’t let you know ahead of time and just take the money out

My car was violated by one old black female employee with green braided hair.
Although she saw me taking a cart and rushing to pick up my stuff , she still went ahead and put non adhesive brown packaging tape with a note on my cars driver side window. Another employee approached me and proposed he will scrape off tape residue with a razor blade! Is he mad?
Instead of checking my car in the database or walking through floors as all other employees do, she damaged my property while I am a customer of Public storage since it’s very opening in JC. I will go to Lexus dealership to fix it and will send management a bill. If it’s not paid, I’ll file a claim in small claims court.

I called the office to confirm if I could get a package delivered their on my behalf so I cab put it in my unit and they said there was no issue and within their policy.
When the package arrived , they refused delivery because they said they don't accept packages for non-business customers.
Extremely frustrating that their employees do not know the policy/make things up as they go.
And yes, the rate increase is very dishonest and the hours of operation are inconvenient

I was honestly shocked by how smooth and efficient this place is. Communication about my storage unit was excellent, the app was intuitive and worked surprisingly well to provide access. It's also amazing you can just drive right inside to load/unload. The staff are all friendly and helpful too!

My sister and I had the best experience renting a storage unit at Public Storage in Jersey City (133 2nd Street) = all due to the excellent customer service from Danny. She was so friendly, professional and addressed all our questions. We were unsure regarding the size unit we needed and she showed us 3 options to help us determine what would work best. After we booked the reservation she escorted us to the unit to show us where ours was located - she went above and beyond. The other employees behind the desk were also all friendly and courteous! I definitely recommend this location!!

This storage is very clean ! Danny was very nice she helped me and showed me the unit quickly, she was also polite and got me in and out ! I was already moving things into my storage within 10 mins ! I highly recommend using this storage and ask for Danny when you arrive!
I just moved (11/02/23) my belongings at Public Storage JC NJ. I had also a very disturbing experience at the the front desk on my third visit at the front desk. My story is a very long one.
I was disrespected by a very loud female employee. I only went there to ask regarding a charge on my card w/o my consent. She gave me some ambiguous answers but never answered my question. I have not returned there since. I was embarrassed there were other people (customers) there on that day.
The woman helped with the booking everything was good, I paid whatever I was charged.
2 things I found very UNETHICAL.
1) she wrote her own reviews 5 star, and showed it to me . 2)she enroll my card auto pay without my permission without my consent. I meant to utilize a different card . There is more to my story but I will stop now.

Updated - Sam and Dane lovely super helpful maybe even cleaner than in past… although always spotless! Bright clean and lovely!!! I recommend - Nov 9 2023!! We have four units around the US, all do well. This one is the cleanest, brightest most convenient. Very secure. Antonio I believe in particular has been super helpful, but most staff generally friendly, they’re to help. I can recommend with ease.

You open late and now your closing an hour earlier. That's terrible, what happens to people that work. I can't even make it to go to storage after work. At least at 7:00 p.m. it gave me an hour. And it's not like you open early that I can go before work.
At least if you are going to close an hour earlier you should open earlier.
Some storages open at 6:00 a.m. perhaps if you opened at 7:00 or 8:00 even however at 9:00 most of America is at work.
I've been using Public Storage for many years now and recently needed another unit on very short notice during a move. Carmen and Will were so helpful to me and made a very stressful situation much more manageable. They are great.
There is always something that does not allow me to give such a high rating. Perhaps it is because I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue for many years, and we all know their Customer Service is legendary. However, Public Storage on 2nd Street in Jersey City is that exceptional business that will get my 5* rating.

Worst customer service ever. Every time I’d go to the service desk there’s someone with a attitude. I asked questions today, I have a boot because of torn ligament and these people made me walk up and down and tell me it wasn’t necessary. And I’m frustrated and the person I’m going to say was the manager said just take the key to another employee, and said thanks bye. No empathy whatsoever and I don’t need pity but I need factual information.

I had such a great experience. The facilities were clean and the staff was super helpful. Josy helped my boyfriend and I when we were in a sticky situation with a scammy moving company. She helped us get the stuff to the unit and had a smiley cheery attitude. She really cares about the customers storing at public storage.
Public storage in jersey city have some of the kindness, most helpful staff members. Especially Josy - she was so kind and helpful. I had a horrible scammy moving company that showed up close to closing to deliver stuff to storage. She went out of her way to help them and me move my stuff in. It made a very stressful experience a lot more relaxing. Cannot thank them enough!

I guess Damien is not there anymore.
I called to see if I could get my rate adjusted again and they told me that it was a one-time courtesy.
Damien told me to call back to re-adjust if the rent went up.
I guess that's the way they do business with the people that have been there for years.
Location and facility was great for me, but they kept periodically raising the fee ... to what has about doubled the original rate!! My last notice was an increase from $147 to over $200! BEWARE! I'm looking for someplace less expensive. for a more reasonable place.

After my 2 star review and above note, I was surprised to receive a note saying my rate will be held at present rate for 6 months with request to adjust the review (why I raised review to 4 stars). I appreciate that someone actually reads these reviews and trys to resolve issues. I am grateful for the 6 months at same rate, but I will be moving to a smaller unit and still keep looking for a less expensive storage, at least one that won't periodically keep raising the rate.

I have been renting a space for 4 month and my only complaint is that it’s not open 24 hours or at least extended hours, so it’s hard to fit in a visiting during the week
Disappointing Experience at Storage Rental Service
I regret to share my recent experience with the storage rental service, as it was far from satisfactory. The individual at the front desk exhibited an attitude that can only be described as arrogant and displayed rudeness throughout our interaction. Their behavior not only lacked professionalism but also reflected poorly on the overall customer service.
My dissatisfaction arose from several issues that occurred during the rental process. Firstly, the attendant changed my quote twice, increasing the rates substantially without any justification or respect for the initial reservation quote. This unexpected increase in costs was not communicated to us beforehand, leaving us feeling blindsided and taken advantage of.
What made matters worse was that the attendant failed to disclose the possibility of a higher rate unless explicitly asked about it. It is evident that this lack of transparency was intentional, making it even harder for us to trust the process.
She yelled at me, stating that she wouldn't attend to me and refused to accept my request to change to another person to handle our case, as communication with her was impossible.
Be sure to make your reservation online and never negotiate prices at the front desk, as they will charge you more and provide you the worst experience ever.

The original price went up significantly after a few months for no apparent reason. Be careful that the rate they charge can change on you without notification. Not talking about introductory savings but the price you were told it would be once that introductory expires. Very annoying when you expect to pay a certain amount and used this storage because of a good price over other storage places. Only to find out later at around 3 months it actually is more than competition.
Otherwise great climate controlled indoor facility with elevators and plenty of dollies. There is also never a problem parking inside with cars or at loading dock with trucks.
They do close at 7pm so make sure that works around your schedule but other are open much later or even 24 hours.
Also, there is NO GARBAGE or dumpsters available so if you plan to put stuff in storage and look through it to throw stuff away you have to find your own way and place to throw things away.
Only half of the elevators works at any time. Not nearly enough carts. Have to wait for a cart every single visit
I would like to say the staff here was more than helpful you did an amazing job making my experience simple and painless. Will took the time to explain everything step by step and went above and beyond. Carmen and gwen with the assist they were also great. This is a great team here at Jc

Had a great time setting up a rental unit today with the support staff in the building. Carmen was extremely professional and insightful. She walked me through everything I needed to know to get set up with my storage unit. I’m glad I went in person, because I wouldn’t have figured out how to properly lock a unit without her instruction.
The staff also was also helpful explaining some confusion I had with the app and with billing. I had a lot of questions, and I appreciate that the representatives were knowledgeable and able to shed light on what otherwise would have been a confusing process.
Amanda provided outstanding customer service. I'm sure Public Storage appreciates employees who know how to listen and address customer needs. I'm very grateful to Amanda for making my first experience with PS an exceptional one.
Such a scam, no where up until you have paid it says no Move-In after 7pm. Everywhere says accessible 24/7, however “no move-in after 7pm” was deliberately left out. And admin fee is non-refundable. I called to cancel immediately after I realized there is no move-in after 7pm, they wouldn’t refund me. Wow. What a service.
