After my rate at Extra Space Storage in Green Brook more than tripled in a year, I moved my stuff into a 5x5 unit at Public Storage in Berkeley Heights.
Jared was great, showing me my unit and giving me an orientation to the facility. I like that it's all self-contained in one building, and the climate control is really good. It's also well lit, so I didn't need to put any battery-operated lighting in my unit. It also looked and felt clean.
On what might have been the hottest day of the year (so far), I was grateful to be able to unload in a shaded area next to the door. I felt safe with the two layers of security (locked gate and locked door). The app is great, letting you access both via bluetooth.
I reserved my unit online and locked in a better rate than if I'd done it in person. I also kept my lock from Extra Space, so I got the lock fee refunded. Also, Public Storage requires insurance. They give you a month free (after that, I think it's an extra $15/month), but most renters or homeowners policies will cover self-storage, so be sure to cancel it if yours does.
So far, it was a 5-star experience. We'll see how they handle the price increases ... because if they're as ludicrous as the increases at Extra Space, the stars will drop off.

I rented a Public Storage unit at 135 Industrial Rd, Berkeley Heights, NJ in March 2026. Since my plan keeps changing, I had several scenarios to consider and had specific questions for each.
Jared from Public Storage called me on the day of my rental and went thru all my questions with great patience. He answered my questions honestly and down to the point, which helped me greatly in making decisions. He returned my Voice Mail promptly and helped me with my further questions. I finally cancelled the unit in April because my plan changed, during which Jared helped me go thru the exit procedure smoothly, and I felt completely satisfied.
While speaking with Jared, I always felt respected and welcomed. Although we never met in person, it's absolutely a great experience working with Jared. Thank you bro for everything!!

The Best Storage space in multiple states, here's why. They only focus on quality storage, supplies, and service, so you are always interacting with the right people. All of the customers are exclusively storage, no trucks rentals, so people get in and out fast, always accessible.
I rented here on accident initially, then realized it was right off a main freeway, but a low traffic area, and stuck around. Bernise and Jared, at he front desk, have been prompt and accessible, I appreciate the service.

This is our fist time renting a storage unit and we were flying blind. Jared and Bernise were fantastic to deal with on the phone and when we walked the the unit. They were personable, patient, and informative. The facility is clean, obviously well kept, and gives us a sense of security leaving our personal items.
Bernise and Jared made our reservation process easy and smooth. The facility is new, secure, clean and accessible. We appreciate their knowledgeable service and attention. There are better deals when reserving online but they’ll honor the published prices at the location.

Great facility, clean and the service from Jarred is excellent. He gave me a tour of the space I wanted to rent. A week later when I couldn't complete my reservation over the phone using the corporate number, Jarred helped me create and complete a new reservation and I was able to complete the transaction. Now I have peace of mind that my unit is secured.

Everything was well organized and Jared, the manager on duty, couldn’t have been more helpful. We were very relieved that it all went so smoothly, because we were unloading a mega container from Europe. We are also impressed how clean the place is!

I couldn’t be happier with my experience here today, 6/22/25. Aaliyah was so kind, helpful, and professional. She showed us the units we were interested in seeing, answered all of our questions, and getting us set up. The facility is literally brand new. It still has that ‘new smell’. Beyond clean. Everything is in great working order. We signed up for a unit then and there.
Aaliyah was very helpful and informative, we were shopping around for storage and got in and out of there in less than 30 minutes with a perfect sized storage space. I really appreciate her for helping us and her personality and jokes made the experience feel authentic and very comfortable!
