About Gardena
Gardena is a conveniently-located city in the South Bay region of California's Los Angeles County. It's close to every major freeway in Los Angeles County and just a short drive south of downtown Los Angeles. Gardena is an extremely diverse area, home to one of the largest Japanese-American communities in the nation.
The History of Gardena
Archaeologists have found evidence of human activity dating back thousands of years in the area of present-day Gardena. It likely existed as a popular spot for hunting and fishing for the Tongva tribe, and Europeans didn't arrive in the area until the late 1700s. The land changed ownership through a series of land grants, eventually being purchased by large groups of Civil War veterans, farmers and ranchers in the late 1800s.
They transformed the area from a collection of rancho estates into a residential community. The city's growth really took off with the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s. Gardena was officially incorporated in 1930 when it merged with the nearby neighborhoods of Moneta and Strawberry Park.
Modern-day Gardena bears little resemblance to the farming community it was back then. Today it's a vibrant residential and business center that's home to numerous businesses, attractions and a diverse population of residents.
Living and Working in Gardena
Gardena has enjoyed modest growth in recent years as more people have discovered its attractive surroundings, pleasant year-round weather and convenient location.
There are a variety of local parks where you can enjoy the warm, sunny weather, with amenities like wading pools, sports fields and picnic areas. If you're looking to experience the local nightlife, Gardena's two local casinos can hold their own with the gaming establishments of Las Vegas. Both sites offer table games, restaurants and shows for patrons.
In addition to providing plenty of entertainment, the city's casinos are also two of the largest employers in Gardena. Memorial Hospital, Ramona's Mexican Food, Sam's Club, USPS, Chromalloy Corpo. and Southwest Offset Printing also provide a large number of jobs in the city. The diversity of these businesses helps secure the local economy.
The services industry is the largest business sector in Gardena, employing a large percentage of working locals. Retail trade is another major local industry. Many of these jobs are found in the city's numerous malls: Gardena Valley Shopping Center, Pacific Square Shopping Center, Gardena Gateway Center and Strawberry Square Shopping Center.

Storage Solutions for Different Needs
People use self-storage for many different purposes, and the right unit often depends on how long you plan to store items and how often you’ll visit. Because every Public Storage location offers its own mix of sizes, layouts, and features, customers can choose a space that fits their day-to-day routine or upcoming plans.
Common uses include:
- Business storage: Many small businesses and independent contractors use self-storage as an extension of their workspace. Units can help organize inventory, tools, supplies, samples, or seasonal equipment without the need for additional office or commercial space. Drive-up units and extended access hours at many locations can also make it easier to load or unload between jobs.
- College and university storage: Students often need a place to keep belongings during summer break, study-abroad programs, or short-term housing transitions. A small unit can simplify the shift between dorms, apartments, or shared housing by keeping everything in one place until the next semester begins.
- Moving and life changes: Self-storage is a flexible option during moves, renovations, and reorganizing projects. Whether you’re preparing a home for sale, settling into a new space, or arranging rooms one step at a time, extra room can help you stay organized and keep pathways clear while you pack or rearrange items.
- Military storage: Frequent relocations, trainings, or temporary assignments can create gaps between homes or require extra space during transitions. A self-storage unit can offer a consistent place to keep belongings during moves or periods when housing arrangements change. With a variety of sizes available across many locations, customers can choose a unit that aligns with their timelines and storage needs.
- Long-term planning: Some customers choose a unit for items they want to set aside for longer periods, keep in reserve, or revisit seasonally. Having a consistent storage space outside the home can make larger organizational projects more manageable and free up room inside closets, garages, or spare rooms. • Sports equipment storage: From bikes and surfboards to golf clubs and seasonal gear, sports equipment can take up space at home. A storage unit helps keep bulky items organized and accessible between seasons, practices, or trips.
- Holiday item storage: Self-storage makes it easier to pack away holiday items once the season ends and pull them out again when it’s time to decorate.
- Travel and extended time away: Whether you’re preparing for a long trip, extended work assignment, or temporary relocation, a storage unit can help simplify packing and planning. Items you don’t need to take along can be put away until you return, helping reduce clutter.
- Decluttering and organization projects: Many customers use self-storage as part of a larger decluttering effort. Moving items out temporarily can make it easier to sort, organize, and decide what to keep.
- Home renovation and remodeling: Renovation projects often require clearing rooms to allow work to move forward. A storage unit provides a place to put away furniture, decor, and household items while updates are underway, helping keep rooms open and projects organized from start to finish.
- Hobby and passion projects: Creative pursuits and collections can grow over time. Self-storage offers extra room for supplies, equipment, or works-in-progress that don’t fit neatly into everyday living areas, while still remaining easy to access when inspiration strikes.
- Emergency or unexpected situations: Life doesn’t always follow a schedule. During sudden changes—such as repairs, relocations, or temporary housing shifts—a storage unit can help bridge the gap by keeping belongings organized until plans become clearer.
- Personal relationship changes: Transitions such as separations or household changes can involve reorganizing living arrangements over time. Self-storage provides flexibility during these periods, allowing customers to manage belongings at their own pace while plans take shape.
- Moving from another storage provider: Customers switching from a different storage company often use Public Storage to reorganize. With a range of unit sizes and features available across many locations, it’s easier to choose a space that aligns with new plans or changing storage needs.
Across all these situations, customers can select the size and features that match their plans—whether that’s a compact 5×5 unit for a brief period or a 10x20 unit for ongoing projects, business use, or a home transition that unfolds over several months. Each facility offers different options, making it easy to compare locations and choose a space that aligns with your storage goals.
