Public Storage’s contactless eRental program program hit one million customers this week.
The contactless solution allows customers to easily find, rent, and pay for their storage - right from their device, from anywhere. Meaning they can skip the rental counter and settle into their unit on their schedule, as they benefit from our expanded move-in hours.
“Being able to celebrate this milestone is great for us, but we’re even happier that we get to offer our customers an easier, more convenient option,” said David Collins, vice president of marketing, who championed the program.
eRental launched in late 2019 as part of an innovative suite of digital offerings. The program expanded nationwide in 2020 and quickly grew as more and more customers were seeking contactless experiences.
To celebrate, we gave the one millionth customer their choice of $1,000 or a year’s free rent in a storage space. Higor Diniz was the lucky customer who booked with us on March 26 using his cell phone.
“Oh wow,” said Diniz, who was pleasantly surprised after being told the news. “I didn’t even know there was a contest.”
Diniz said he needed storage at the last minute after helping his mother move into her new home.
“It was for my mom, she moved near here and she had a couple of boxes of stuff but she had no space. It was last minute so I wanted something close by,” he said. “On the way home I decided to give them a call to see if I could rent a space.”
He was texted a link to complete his eRental and Diniz said he was able to rent a 5x5 storage space fairly quickly after that.
Diniz joined our team at Public Storage, 50 Middlesex Ave, Somerville, MA 02145 this week to celebrate this achievement!
At the celebration this week, District Manager Stephanie Mason introduced Diniz to all the property managers in the region.
“Everyone was super excited that Somerville was the location and to be part of the celebration,” she said.
As part of the recognition, our property manager at the location also received a prize!
“I thought it was amazing that we not only celebrate the customer but our team as well,” Mason said.
She was pleased to see our eRental program see such a quick adoption rate with our customers.
“We’re thrilled our customers have found it to be such an enhancement and adopted it very quickly,” Collins said.
When we launched eRental, we knew we wanted to build on the best contactless shopping experiences already available to consumers. When we asked customers how we compared, they gave rave reviews.
“It was so seamless, I wish all of my purchases were this well-executed by their sellers,” said Nicole W. in an online survey response.
Adoption of our eRental program has been widely successful with it now accounting for half of our move-ins.
“We’ve now done a million of these—this is the future of our industry,” Collins said.
