Miami Storage Units Open as Part of Expansion

We turned up the heat on our commitment to South Florida recently with new Miami storage units at four locations purchased to serve the growing community.
Public Storage closed the deal as part of our overall commitment to residents in Miami, South Florida and even the entire Sunshine State! As a result of the transaction, Public Storage increased the number of locations in greater Miami by 4% in a single day. Three are in central Miami and a fourth is in the neighboring town of Hialeah. All offer indoor, climate controlled storage in some pretty swank buildings.
Our accomplishments for the community are even sunnier if you step back a bit. Statewide over the last year, we’ve also increased the number of storage units in Florida by nearly 2% with bright new Public Storage Orange locations.
“To pick up four Class A properties, we feel like we’ve been really successful,”; said Erik Svensson a vice president with the company’s real estate group.
The locations mimic the bold and beautiful architecture of the area. If you squint a bit, their geometric shapes are a modern spin on the triangular Flatiron Building in New York City, with the “Magic City”; of Miami as a muse.
“It’s very unique,”; said area manager Michael Trout of one of the new locations opening in the Little Havana neighborhood. “I can’t wait to add it to the portfolio.”;
Downtown Miami Storage Units
Public Storage 91 Southwest 3rd Street, Miami, FL, 33130 is seven stories tall with about 900 indoor, climate controlled storage units in Downtown Miami, about three blocks from the Miami River and Riverwalk Trail. The neighborhood is home to condo high-rises, museums and high-end hotels.
“It’s a very trendy area,”; said area manager James Arnaez of the neighborhood that is home to some of the oldest and most iconic buildings in town, including The Standard Spa, William Wagner House and the Miami-Dade County Courthouse.
It is in the central business district of Miami and is conveniently near the Third Street Metromover public transit station.
“The downtown area is just on fire right now,” said company Senior Vice President Mike McGowan. “It’s unbelievable with all of the new activity. It’s very, very exciting.”;
Little Havana Storage Units
Public Storage 2190 SW 8th St., Miami FL 33135 is a triangular-shaped, seven-story facility with more than 900 indoor, climate controlled units in the heart of the Cuban-American and, more recently, Latin American culture, Little Havana.
Our location is near the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame, a sidewalk paying tribute to Cuban and Latin cultural stars, such as salsa dancer Celia Cruz. Area manager Trout says the neighborhood is dominated by small houses and apartment complexes.
“So there is not much room for storage in your typical household in Little Havana,”; he said. “I feel this property will add great value to the families that live in the area so they can store their goods in a clean, secure, and well-lighted facility.”;
Little Havana is known for its music, small businesses, street food and restaurants.
“You can find everything from cigar shops, Cuban restaurants with live music, Domino Park for a game of Dominoes, lots of shopping,”; Trout said. “Or you can go to Versailles which has probably the best Cuban food in Miami and has served as the gathering place and unofficial town square for Miami’s Cuban exiles.”;
Little Haiti Storage Units
Public Storage 5609 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33137 is five stories of nearly 600 indoor, climate controlled units on a bustling thoroughfare. It is near the border of the Little Haiti and Little River neighborhoods, home to residents from all over the Caribbean, and known for its rich culture, including galleries, family-owned businesses and restaurants.
We’re close to the popular and redone Biscayne Boulevard, known for its shopping and dining, and also the Little Haiti Cultural Center.
“This is an up-and-coming, high-rise area,”; said Trout. “There’s a lot of opportunity for visibility for Public Storage as this area has grown and continues to grow.”;
Hialeah Storage Units Near Miami International Airport
Public Storage 180 West 6th Street, Hialeah, FL 33010 is four stories and more than 400 indoor, climate controlled storage units near Miami International Airport and Okeechobee Road, aka U.S. 27. It’s in the Circle Park neighborhood.
“The property will bring the opportunity for all the local businesses to have supplemental storage, as it is located close to warehouses, local shopping centers, as well as City Hall,”; said Rudy Alvarado, area manager for this facility.
We’re so proud of all of our locations, including the newest additions and hope you’ll stop by to visit. We’re easy to see and to find.
The Miami Market is Sizzling
Growing communities are perfect locations for new self-storage options, and Miami is no exception. The town of nearly a half a million welcomed an 18% increase in residents in just under two decades, according to U.S. Census estimates.
With all this movement, more self-storage is a great alternative for those with a space crunch in an area with expensive housing.
“They’re looking for a little extra space,”; said Joe Zubi, senior vice president of communications for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.The local economy is also strong and expanding.
Travel and tourism have long been among the largest industries, with Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International based in town. PortMiami is also one of the country’s largest, helping make the area a shipping and transportation hub.
And of course real estate development has also been a major industry, serving an influx of new residents and a 2% increase in new businesses, one of the fastest growth rates in the country, according to a study by the Miami Urban Future Initiative. Experts also see the area as diversifying and attracting more “creative and idea-based”; businesses, from banking to technology, according to the report.
We at Public Storage are so very excited to be a part of the evolving Miami community, starting with our first location that opened four decades ago to our 95th location that opened today. We have a total of nearly 300 storage facilities in all of Florida, so we’re right around the corner, and we’re easy to find—online and on the road.
“All of the properties have great visibility,”; said Svensson.
