About Martinez

Martinez is a midsize community in the eastern region of Georgia, located near the Georgia-South Carolina border. It’s considered part of the Augusta metropolitan area, serving as one of the city’s northwestern suburbs. The History of Martinez

The founder and namesake of Martinez was Jose Martinez y Saldivar, a Cuban man who arrived in the area as a conquistador. He purchased a plantation in the area, naming it El Cordero Rancho (“The Lamb Ranch”), and became a fairly successful landowner. His four daughters went on to marry high-ranking businessmen and professionals in the community and continued to be prominent members of society. Today, Martinez’s original home still stands, as do his barns and a small water tower.
