The founder and namesake of Martinez was Jose Martinez y Saldivar, a Cuban man who arrived in the area as a conquistador. His four daughters went on to marry high-ranking businessmen and professionals in the community and continued to be prominent members of society. Today, Martinez’s original home still stands, as do his barns and a small water tower.
