Public Storage Employees Rank Our Winning Culture

Mar 31, 2023 / Liset Marquez

Our team members gave us perfect A+ scores when rating our Workplace Culture, CEO and Executive Team, according to their responses compiled on the career site Comparably.

We were also named one of the top 10 companies for Best Operations Team, top 100 for Best Company Outlook, and our team members in Los Angeles voted us one of the top 10 Best Places to Work, according to Comparably, who asked employees to rate their employers in an anonymous survey.

Our awards from Comparably also complement employee recognition we earned this year as one of Forbes’ America’s Best Large Employers of 2022. Forbes independently surveyed employees to determine its rankings.

“The culture is top-notch,”; said Stephanie Palko, a district manager in Chicago. “Public Storage and senior leadership values you. Public Storage leadership gets to know you, recognizes your strengths and helps push you to do more, while still managing to drive results.”;

To determine the Best Operations Team list, Comparably looked at 20 different workplace culture categories, everything from leadership and work-life balance to professional-development opportunities and perks and benefits.

When Palko joined the team three years ago, she was looking for a company with a better work-life balance that also was growing.

The move turned out to be the best decision—she has been given ample opportunities to grow and develop leadership skills.

“My leadership team continues to help me develop my own leadership skills by providing me stretch assignments, which is something I really appreciate,”; Palko said.

We’re also grateful to once again be named to Comparably’s list for Best Company Outlook, a recognition we were also proud to earn in 2021. As companies deal with the Great Resignation, our employees feel confident about the future success of Public Storage and are likely to recommend career opportunities to a friend.

Artis Satcher joined our customer service team more than seven years ago after he was referred to Public Storage from an acquaintance. Satcher said he was already familiar with the company’s reputation for being an industry leader and innovator.

“Since I began, customer service as well as the company has grown and evolved and still setting industry standards,”; Satcher said. “The support staff [management] and fellow teammates make it a pleasure to work for Public Storage.”;

And, of course, Satcher said one of the most rewarding aspects of his job is getting to help our customers.

“I love that every day interacting with customers is a different experience from simple answers to complex issues,”; he said.

Our employees’ high praise for CEO Joe Russell earned him the top spot for CEOs within our industry. Public Storage’s overall culture was also rated a leader among other self storage companies.

These recognitions from employees speak to the collaborative culture our leadership has built.

In fact, 96% of employees surveyed told Comparably they look forward to interacting with their team members every day.

Which is why it’s no surprise we have a team of experienced industry experts. Corporate employees on average spend nine years with the company, while field management and our customer care team members stay an average of six years.

For Emily Geller, joining Public Storage meant leaving the construction industry after more than 12 years. She said she was excited about the transition, especially the prospect of helping our Third Party Management team evolve.

“Public Storage is a stabilized company that continues to grow and adapt with the changing environment,”; said Geller, operations and sales support manager. “Public Storage treats its employees well, the company understands that individuals want to grow and it gives each individual the opportunity to do so.”;

The accolades in 2022 highlight the eight Comparably awards we received in 2021 when Public Storage was named in the top three large companies for Best Operations Department, top five as one of the Best Places to Work in Los Angeles, and ranked top 25 for Best Company Outlook.
