Located in Upper Township, Cape May County, Marmora is a small, picturesque unincorporated community on Great Egg Harbor Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. Connected to Ocean City and the Atlantic Ocean via the Upland Thorofare Bridge, Marmora offers its 2,500 residents both tranquility and easy access to nearby attractions. Atlantic City is 20 miles to the north, while Beesleys Point, Petersburg, and Palermo are among its closest Upper Township neighbors in South Jersey.

Marmora Transportation

U.S. Route 9, Garden State Parkway, and Garden State Tollway run through Marmora, providing easy access to neighboring towns and cities. The NJ Transit bus and train routes provide service to and from Ocean City.

Living in Marmora

Marmora’s residential neighborhoods boast a mix of charming houses and well-kept streets, providing a serene atmosphere. Home prices are above the national average, and most of the population owns their own homes. Single-family houses with plenty of privacy have quick access to the commercial district along Route 9, where a variety of shops, restaurants, and services cater to everyday needs. Boat owners can drydock or moor all year at All Seasons Marina on the Intracoastal Waterway, right before the bridge to Ocean City.

Marmora Schools

Marmora students attend public schools operated by the Upper Township School District from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Upper Township Primary School and Upper Township Elementary School are both in Marmora; Upper Township Middle School is in nearby Petersburg. For 9th-12th grades, most Upper Township students attend Ocean City High School.

Things to Do in Marmora

Marmora enjoys peaceful Upper Township beaches in Strathmere, Tuckahoe, and Beesleys Point. Boating, fishing, kayaking, learning to sail, golfing, and camping opportunities are all around. Nature enthusiasts can explore nearby Belleplain State Forest, which boasts hiking trails, camping sites, and beautiful scenery. For excitement, cross the bridge to Ocean City, “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”

The barrier island includes eight miles of sandy Atlantic shoreline, all under lifeguard watch in the summer months. Four of the beaches are designated just for surfing. For culture, check out Ocean City’s Music Pier for everything from concerts by hometown Ocean City Pops to standup comedians. Shop the boutiques, sample fun dining, explore historic architecture, and walk the boardwalk. Head south to the southern tip of New Jersey for a Cape May getaway, or up north for live shows and the gaming tables of Atlantic City.
