Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 3743 Battleground Ave, Greensboro, NC

My previous reviews seem to have disappeared. I’ve noticed that other negative reviews left by other people have also disappeared. For the person flagging for removal, I am not violating community rules and I have receipts to back up what I’m saying. At least one family member has had a storage unit under their name at the battleground facility for over 7 years. It is in a very convenient location for us and when we first started renting, the facility had a full time attendant and served us well. Over the last several years the facility management has give downhill for numerous reasons: 1) Customer service: The full time attendant has been replaced with a very part time attendant. They are not knowledgeable, have given incorrect information, and are rarely there. It is very inconvenient and it’s almost impossible to speak with a live person. I’m assuming the reduction in office hours was a cost saving measure. 2) Mold: Around the sane time the attendant hours were reduced we downsized our unit again and this time when we went in to our “temperature controlled” unit, we found all of our wood furniture covered in white, furry mold and mildew spots on our soft furnishings. She had to throw many items away. No, we did not move wet furniture into the unit, we had already downsized once before. Yes, we left breathing room around the furniture. We list several pieces of my late mom’s things that o dearly would have liked to keep. It was heartbreaking and all mold is dangerous. 3) Cockroaches: On 2 occasions we have seen dead German cockroach bodies near the door rails. Note, I’ve never seen a live one there so whatever they are spraying may be working, but I’m still scared to bring things home. 4) Price gouging: They almost always have move in specials but if you are a long term renter you should know that after the move in special is over and you bump to the normal rate, they will bump it again shortly after, to a much higher price. You will receive notification that your unit rent has gone up. 5) Management; We received an email offer for a price lock and moved forward on it after asking the attendant several questions. We moved units based on the information given to us which was a lot of work. It went to the district manager and they refused to honor it or make up for the attendants incorrect information. There are a lot of newer, better, and just as competitively priced storage facilities in Greensboro. If you want a better experience, consider one of those instead.

At least one member of my extended family has had a storage unit here for the last 7 years. It was once an excellent facility with a full time attendant and we never had any issues but there is no way I would store here again: 1). Customer service - When we first moved in there was a full time, very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating attendant. That’s one of the reasons we chose the facility, After a while they reduced the attendant hours (in the name of corporate profits) and it became more and more inconvenient to drop off keys for refund, ask a question, or get help. The now very part time attendant has given us incorrect info multiple times and it’s almost impossible to speak to a real person outside those hours. In other words, this facility now has terrible customer service. 2) Mold - When we downsized units from a 10x25 to a 10x20 - all was good, but when we went to downsize from 10x20 to a 10x15 we discovered ALL of our wood furniture was covered with fuzzy white mold and our soft furnishings had mildew spots. No, we did not move damp furnishings because we just moved to another (smaller) unit and our stuff was already there. The unit was not “stuffed” as we always allow airflow. The mold was terrible. It was incompetent of the facility, heartbreaking for me to throw away family memories, and dangerous because of the mold. My best guesss is around the same time they reduced attendant hours they also worked on reducing their AC bill in their temperature controlled units. 3) Rate hikes - They have a dirty policy of raising rents. If you only need a unit for a couple months, one of their online deals will work fine but if you are a long term renter, consider another facility. Their advertised specials involve 1st month free, a percent off the rent, with the “real” rent visible on the page, showing the savings, or some other similar hook. That’s all well and good but no rate is not locked so your entrance rate will not last long. Worse is the “non sale” rate won’t last long either. Your rent will bump much, much higher - almost double anything advertised on their page. You be will be notified of the rent increase but it’s still predatory. 4) German cockroaches - I have not seen any live cockroaches but I have seen dead ones in the nooks around the doors. I scared to bring stored items home. 5) Management - Last but not least, we were offered a rate lock by email. Of course the very part time attendant didn’t know the details and gave incorrect info. We made a decision based on this post info which caused us to lose the rate lock and were told to contact the district manager. the district manager refused to honor it or accommodate for his employees mistake. So…..be warned and learn from our not-so-great experience. There are very, very many newer and better facilities in the area. Almost any of them will be better.

Reserved a unit online for a specific price, was never told where the unit was, but when I got on site was given one unit. When I asked the person at the kiosk on site if I could move at the same price was told I could. However that's not the case, and management won't honor the original price. Only 1 rolling cart at the site the last few times I've been there, so plan on bringing your own method of moving your items. Prices routinely go up, I assume because they know the hassle it is to move out once you move in. However there are several other options nearby that are just as cheap that don't lie to you about their pricing.

Easy online process. Lou Ann contacted me and answered all my questions before I confirmed rental. Then she followed up a few days later to be sure I did not have any problems accessing the building and unit. Made sure I had her contact info if I ever had any problems. Great customer service!

I will never use this company again. Customer service is horrible. I’ve been waiting weeks to hear back from a property manager and was charged fees that were supposed to be waived. I paid extra for 24/7 access; however, there is no gate at this location and my access code would not work after 9pm when they close.

The manager who called to check in from the Randleman Road location. Was amazing. She was upbeat, very friendly and knowledgeable about her business. Thank you for your help.

We love our unit that we reserved online. But very upset that they tried to raise our rates literally 4 months into the contract. I fought them on it and they said they will only delay it by 3 months. We will definitely take our business elsewhere. Terrible business practice to bait & switch.

Super easy to reserve a storage bin online. Key left promptly for me to access and have ready for mowing day. Luane from PS was very helpful checking in on my progress and answering any of my questions along the way.

As a long time customer the monthly rates are absorbent, as they increase at least annually. The climate control is okay at best as the area on first floor always feels muggy/humid. The fire alarm usually has several troubles on it and a lot of the times it is beeping or making a lot of noise. Just wish there was some oversight on the cost per month for long term customer.

I just wanna give a shout out to LuAnn from Public Storage on Battleground Ave in Greensboro NC. To rent a storage unit, you sign up at a kiosk that takes you through the registering process and gives you all the information you need. Shortly afterwards, a nice lady by the name of LuAnn calls to make sure your process went well and to see if you have questions. Very nice touch to the process. But here is what made me write this review…..I was closing out my storage unit but didn’t know where to leave the lock (didn’t read it for myself ) so I called the office but decided to hang up quickly and read the info for myself. I drove off and guess what? LuAnn calls to see if I had questions although it was a hang-up call. That’s when the customer service is beyond expectation. She didn’t have to call me back but she was really kind and concerned that I had everything I needed. I would definitely go back to this location for my storage needs. I will say; however, that I think it’s a bit pricey but I have nothing to compare it to since this is my first time using any type of storage. Again, LuAnn made the process easy.

Public Storage at 3743 Battleground Ave in Greensboro is a nice storage facility. It is clean, has climate control, carts to move items on, and a very nice lady LuAnn as a property manager.

No staff could be located. The computerized booking contraption was not user friendly, and I couldn’t make it function. Gave up and left. Booked at another storage facility.

Well I’ve read the reviews and I’ll admit that I’m probably wrong on this one but it’s my experience. I buy storage units on auction and in doing that I place bids not knowing if I’ll win that bid or not. Sometimes you are the highest bidder, often you lose to a higher bidder. On this day, I won 3 units, and they allow 48 hours to clean out the units. I also work in the healthcare industry full time and do this as a side gig for fun. The battleground location does not have someone on staff, Luann is covering from Cone. I called and told Luann that with the holiday, and my work schedule I would have everything cleaned out by Saturday, Sunday at the latest. My 48 hours was up on Thanksgiving Day, on Saturday morning, my unit was given to the next bidder. When I called, Luann said well maybe you shouldn’t buy so many units. Like I know how many bids I’m going to win. Not only did I purchase three units, I also rented a unit with public, and I’ve purchased probably 30 units and have a perfect history of cleaning out my units and within an acceptable amount of time, granted not always within the 48 hour window. Most places are willing to work with the auction buyers. We pay up front for our won units. Not only do I lose that unit, I lose the money I paid, and I’m suspended from purchasing other units on that platform. So I see where she may be helpful to some, she was absolutely the most unhelpful person I’ve run into in a long time. Hence the review.

Love this property

I rented a 10x10 unit on the second floor, and it’s larger than I expected. The space was clean, and the temperature was perfect! It’s also very easy to access and secure. One thing, when I stopped by for help with the kiosk screen, I clicked it so many times, but it just wouldn’t work. I think they need to fix that.

I did everything online the rates was much cheaper than any other storage facility in Greensboro. I selected my rate downloaded the app then the next day moved my stuff in. It was much faster and easier then dealing with an actual person thank you ❤️

The on-line process was very easy. Got the unit we wanted and all billing and paperwork was very efficient. Move I was convenient and the unit was ready and condition was as expected.

Easy to sign up online. You can select your unit from what’s available and get quoted and pay really quickly. They also provide insurance. All in all easy peasy. Even send everything to my phone and you can unlock doors on the app once you start. Very affordable climate controlled units too.

Excellent online experience. Flawless and easy to navigate website. Had a storage unit in less than 30 minutes. Scheduled my move in date and payment online. Storage unit was clean and exactly what was offered. No person required! Directions were very easy to follow.

Absolutely the worse ! My keys fell through the elevator and I was stuck in the building and had to stay over night because this is a “ self serve “ unit . No one cared that I was a female and alone . No one cared that I had no bathroom or anything for hours . I couldn’t Uber or go anywhere be cause my purse was locked in my car and the property manager Lu Ann called me three days later and left a message saying “ did you get your keys “! Then my auto pay was somehow ironically turned off and I get a late fee and this “ wonderful property manager Lu Ann” calls back days later ( per usual ) and says she can do nothing about it , no courtesy waive or anything . She can “ request to get it removed , once I pay “ Not sure why you even have a job because there is nothing you can or have been able to help me with . Do not waste your time with this expensive place . Since it’s self serve no one has to answer or call you or even assist you in anyway .

The online process had a little glitch, but the property manager was accessible and very responsive. Not only was the glitch corrected but she followed up to make sure I knew all was well. I really appreciated that.

It's pretty well hidden behind a busy car wash and there's no way that there sign is an indication as to where it actually is. For the price it cost, it's not convenient for me ( disabled) and I look forward to getting my things out as soon as possible. For someone else it might be fine.

They have gotten really expensive and gotten rid of all their staff, the office area is pretty much gone. Also, they only have a couple of flat carts to haul big stuff around and they are always in use. Recently switched to a different storage (Bee Safe) because we got a bigger space for much less money and much better service and facilities.

Being able to complete the entire process online made it a piece of cake!

I have never had an issue with my storage unit, but the pricing in the last five years has raised so much that I can't continue to afford it. My 10 x 20 storage unit (w/ Insurance) went from $117 a month to $341 a month. I'm getting to the point where I can move out from roommates and be able to have my stuff out of storage but I can't get myself ahead if my bill continues to rise. I went to go talk to the front desk today to find out that it's a machine that you talk to, not an actual person. That's new to me! Then I come home to use the website and they have a chat box. "All agents are currently unavailable." I'm gonna try calling, but WHERE IS EVERYONE THAT WORKS FOR PUBLIC STORAGE? This is ridiculous to try to get in touch with an actual person. Why is my bill rising so much when you don't have any employees to talk to? The only recent time that I spoke with someone due to one day late payment because I forgot to update my new card... but again, Can't speak with anyone when you want to reach out to them. I will be finding somewhere else to store my belongings. But I would really like a call from an actual person if this company reads their reviews.

There was an easy transition moving in, the property manager was super helpful as to how we were to move in. You pull up and park exactly in-front of the elevator where there are pulley's available, so it is completely easy the building is nice and cool and very clean. Totally recommend!!

This is my second storage unit, and I chose this one because of the proximity to my house. The woman at the front desk was super friendly and helpful, and she took the time to make sure I got exactly what I needed. The space was a little pricier than the one I was in before, but I like the security and location of this one. Highly recommended!
