I was unable to pay two months of rent, and this facility sold all of my items. I explained to them that I own a small landscaping business, and sometimes business has ups and downs. Unfortunately, it was during my slow season, and I could not afford the payment at that time.
I tried speaking with the manager and asked if we could work something out. She told me she would give me a call to see what she could do, but I never received a call from her.
One week later, I received an email saying that all of my items had been sold for $200. I believe this is very unfair because the tools and equipment I stored there were worth almost $4,000, yet they were sold for only $200. I also still owe them three months of rent.
In comparison, when I had trouble paying my storage at U-Haul, they allowed me extra time. They gave me up to eight months to catch up, and when I had the money, I paid five months of rent.

I am furious with Public Storage in San Carlos. They have recently increased my monthly price by 32% without any reasoning. After calling in and trying for too long to get a hold of someone, my request was submitted. I was told it would take up to 72 hours to get hear back, about 30 mins later I got call saying it was denied. I learned the rate increase was due to "market value". This place is next to a dump and smells of rotting trash every time I go there. They have rat traps everywhere and dirt and dust constantly gets blown into my unit.
My rate has done nothing but increase and haven't even been with them for a year. When I finally got someone on the line they start by rambling off fine print about how they can increase rates at anytime.
I will tell everyone never to use this rental place and to take their money elsewhere. An absolutely horrible experience with this location and the company as a whole. I cannot wait to get my belongings out of there.
Great team running the space
My daughter rented a space and paid over two years. During that time, they increased the rent without informing her by nearly 45%.
They then put a lien on her unit as her card was stolen and she could not input a new card in their system from Europe.
I went in to talk with the "manager" Vickie. Awful experience. Asked her simple questions and she was deflective, rude and did everything possible to not be helpful.
I WILL NEVER EVER RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE AGAIN AND WOULD RECMOMEND AVERYONE TO STAY WAY FROM THIS LOCATION AND COMPANY AS THEY HAVE BEEN ATROCIOUS!!!!!!!
Very dirty and horrible hours of operation.
I've used Public storage off and on over the 20 years I have lived in San Carlos. They have lots of locations between San Carlos and Redwood City. The app is easy to use and the staff is great too. I've known the manager for almost 10 years and she will always helpful, understanding and knowledgable.

Please don't rent here if you value your stuff. Ignore all reviews prior to 2020. Since then there is a mulch processing plant 10 feet from the property. The micro dust from processing the mulch infiltrates everything. It goes right through the cracks in the doors and roof and will coat everything in the unit with a thick layer of dust. It destroyed everything in the unit and we had to take everything to the dump. This includes priceless pictures of my family and pets. It also ruined thousands of dollars of clothes that were sealed In a box but the dust found it's way in. Please take my warning and look elsewhere.
Backs up to a mulch processing plant. The amount of dust that infiltrates the units is insane. I'm talking 3 inches of mulch dust on everything in the unit. Be very very selective on the row your unit is on. Row D is the worst for this. Being on row G you might be fine. Everything I put in there is ruined due to the dust. Also do research on the pricing. Over the 2 years I've had the unit here, prices more than doubled so I was forced to bail. Very greedy to charge 500+ bucks a month for a medium sized unit just to ruin all of it in mulch dust.
