I had $30k of collectibles in a big expensive safe. On June 15th @ 8:11 AM, someone just casually walked out with my safe and my laser printer and drove it to Oakland. The lock was secured when I got there. Either they came in through a side wall or they had a key. I know where it is because I’m currently tracking it as I write this review. This place incredibly doesn’t have cameras inside the building, only outside. Leasing manager wouldn’t pick up the phone for 8 hours, and when I finally caught him in person, he said he was just heading out to lunch (at 2:15pm) and left nervously saying I should to talk to the insurance company. You decide.

This is my 3rd unit at this location now I’ve met Oscar and Teresa in passing as well as calling over the phone. Very supportive and friendly staff. The building is well kept and the ac has been on at 70-7x for the entire year I’ve rented here. Definitely recommend this location to anyone looking for a climate controlled storage unit at affordable rate.

The office personnel was helpful and considerate. However, the office was in a different building than the one we had our rental. When I arrived at the unit, which is a massive building there were no carts. I had to go up and down three floors and all around looking for a cart. The elevators were very dangerous! The button lights weren’t working and I thought I was stuck at first because they’re very slow to move. The doors closed on me twice as I was pushing the cart in and they don’t rebound so I had to jump out away from the closing door. The close really hard and can’t be pushed opened. The elevator doors could crush a small person. There was also a truck blocking the only entrance and it was difficult to move our cart with the boxes in the building.

Very nice storage facility, nice customers, very nice staff. I have especially appreciated working with Cesar, who is oh good very hard-working and nice.

I recently used the services of Public Storage, primarily due to its convenient location near the 92, which made access incredibly time-efficient for me. This aspect was definitely a highlight and contributed to a largely positive experience. However, I did encounter a bit of trouble understanding the instructions for locating my unit. They were explained to me rather quickly, and I found myself struggling to follow them at first. Overall, while there was a slight hiccup with directions, the ease of access and efficiency were notable positives. I'm neutral on recommending this place. It worked well for my needs, but potential customers might want to ensure they get clear instructions regarding unit locations.

Prices are hight and not worth it

I was a customer of this location from October 2024 until today (2/28/25). Throughout, I had an excellent experience at Public Storage, thanks to Teresa! From the moment I walked in, until my last day, she was super friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful. **Notably, today while I was moving my belongings out (I was there between around 10:20 a.m. to about 11:45), I saw Teresa handle a frustrated customer who was having trouble accessing their unit. Instead of getting flustered, Teresa stayed calm, listened patiently, and immediately found a solution. She helped troubleshoot the issue, and gave them individualized attention, even as she had to manage the both the Pacific and Delaware locations (next door). When it was my turn, she made the process smooth and easy, answering all my questions and going out of her way to help me. It’s clear Teresa genuinely cares about her customers and goes above and beyond to make sure they’re taken care of. Note: My serious suggestion for this location would be to acquire more customer service associates on premises, and more dollies for moving. It’s unfair to have one person be penalized because of understaffing or lack of equipment. These are the company’s responsibility. Thanks!

We were very happy with the service at this facility. The storage was very clean, and the area around well kept up. The staff was very helpful and courteous. We will recommend this facility anytime.

Steer clear of this place. What a horrific company. I have nothing positive to say about the facility, people or policies. It's all below average and shady. Company and people aside, there is a severe shortage of carts, meaning zero, no matter the day or hour. Good luck lugging your items one at a time up and down floors and hallways.

Watch out for this place’s bait and switch tactics!!! Got me booking a 10x13 space for $199/month. When my moving team arrived, we figured out the space had no light because of the broken light bulb. The staff claimed there was nothing he can do at the moment. So we switched a 10x15 space with air conditioning and LIGHTS for $292. I was ok with the price change but it should have been a BIG RED FLAG!!! 4 months later, the autopay bill went up to $391 without notifying me. 6 more months later it went up again to $531. If it wasn’t that it went over my set credit card limit, I wouldn’t have found out. This is within less than a year. WTH

We had a great experience at Public Storage in San Mateo! Chris was very helpful, checking on us throughout the process and closing out the unit and account balance after we vacated. Highly recommend this location and Chris for his excellent customer service!

Think twice about using this facility (or at the very least ask them if they’ll guarantee pricing). Bait and switch! I came into my storage unit at $205 a month and three months later it was raised to over $250 and before my first year was up into the mid $300s. That’s a huge price increase in less than a year and clearly it’s because they can get away with it. Once you stuff is in their storage unit, you’re less likely to move. The facilities themselves are fine and the man who works there is pretty consistently available, but not very helpful. It’s like he’s not too sure of what’s going on there and his answer to everything is “I don’t know. It has to go through the app.” I see there are a few other reviews that talk about the bait and switch policy and I can’t believe there aren’t more but assume some people just don’t notice how much their rates have gone up . Since I’m on auto pay, it took me a few months to notice.

The space is very clean and accessible. The staff are really helpful. When I moved out and had a lot of unwanted boxes, Oscar helped me throw them away. Really good service!

Oscar is friendly warm and incredibly efficient. I’ve dealt w him for years and probably the single reason i have continued w PS over the many years. Give a raise a promotion. He deserves it and so does PS customers.

Even though I can see she's busy accommodating other clients, she still makes me feel welcomed, gave me necessary information and provides smooth service to my request without much hassle. Public Storage should rewards Teresa for her professional service. The storage unit with climate control in the main building is clean with lighting and AC. There are 2 entrance to the main storage building with parking on both sides, so that you don't have to walk as much. The picture attached is a 10x10 storage unit.

Complete bait and switch. Signed a contract for $133 a month and they increased by $53 after six months. I have another location that increased $10 after over two years. DO NOT store here unless you are okay with huge rate hikes.

Great asset for your company

BEWARE!!! If you rent for over a year, you are subject to ABUSIVE RENT INCREASES AND NO PRORATED RENTS! Once you have moved in, and it is time for a rent review, (usually once a year, but can happen at any time) they will dramatically INCREASE your rent! In 2022 I was hit by a 28% increase! For a 10' X 19' unit, the rent was almost $10,000/year. After time, you can end up paying more than TRIPLE what a new renter will pay for exactly the same unit! When you get hit with a rent increase, my advice is to shop around with the competition. Even if it is a hassle to move. Or even give in your notice to vacate, then reserve another unit in the sane facility. New renters always get a price break. No bathrooms available, nor dumpsters. They do not want to make it easy for you to get rid of stuff. Onsite garage sales are NOT allowed. You cannot have people showing up to buy your items. However, you can certainly arrange beforehand to have people come in to look at your stuff and make bids, and have them cart their purchases away. A couple of battered 4-wheel carts might or might not be available, so bring your own handtrucks, or rent them from "Home Depot" if you have many items to move. ALSO, they do NOT PRO-RATE rents! RENTS ARE MONTH-TO-MONTH. If you use your unit for only a day out of a month, and then vacate, you will have to PAY THE ENTIRE MONTH in ADVANCE! Else, your unit will put on lien after a month. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Love how big the storage is

The guy who helped me get a unit was extremely accommodating and helpful. Later when I was moving my stuff, he ran to my car to let me know I had forgotten something on the side of the entrance. Incredibly thoughtful guy. This location is close to a lot of main highways and streets like El Camino meaning it’s highly accessible. The facilities were clean and the area felt safe.

Unit was broken into. Received a call from a property manager who noticed at least 6 others who had been broken into. She said it's very common and that if I had insurance, I would have had to itemize every item with receipts in order for my claim to be valid. They are instructed not to tell customers to itemize when they purchase the insurance. They are also required to purchase insurance. After the break in, I had to go look at the unit and call the police. The police asked if there was any video footage. Unfortunately, this location had an issue and the video cameras didn't actually work. And, they are only outside where it is really no use. I had to leave my things in a unit that had a broken door and no security. They had no other units in the area and if I wanted to get another unit, I'd have to hire people to help me move all my things. I'm being charged monthly, but I don't have a functional door. They refuse to stop auto-payments and say that they've now put a work order in but have no idea when my door will be replaced. It's been at least 2 months since the break in and still no idea when my unit will be secured. The property manager told me to call corporate customer service and the corporate customer service agent was very rude and said they couldn't' do anything. The property manager has since left Public storage and she clearly wasn't happy with how the corporate team handled these cases.

I just wanted to say that this property is well maintained and the staff here is extremely helpful. I came in to inquire about a unit and Jesse was really knowlegeable and gave me some insight on what I might need. He was an extremely cool guy and I appreciated his help and I recomend this place to anyone who needs a storage unit.

I would just like to share that I value and trust this Public Storage! On top of the convenient location, the premises are always safe and clean. The Manager Jeffe there is truly world class, he takes time to listen to the customers concerns and offers solutions with tact and poise. Spend your money here, you won't regret it.
