Are you moving to Richmond, Texas to enjoy the affordable real estate and the suburban setting? You’re not alone, and that’s why Public Storage opened brand new storage units in Richmond, its second location in the growing town.

The new Public Storage at 8008 West Grand Parkway South, Richmond, TX 77406 boasts more than 1,200 climate-controlled storage units near Houston. The five-story, bright orange building is easy to spot off the expanding State Highway 99, near South Mason Road.

But that’s not the biggest news for customers in the Houston market. In 2017 alone, Public Storage opened more than one million square feet of storage space in Houston and its suburbs.

Thanks to new construction, Houston is the company’s largest market in the Lone Star State, beating out Dallas by 500,000 square feet.

“The vast majority of our portfolio was in older areas, but now we’ve picked up in the new growth areas and expanded along Grand Parkway – the new outer ring around Houston,”; said Jarrod Yates, a Public Storage vice president of real estate based in Plano, TX.

Seven brand-new developments opened in 2017 around Houston, all with similar grandiose structures and modern amenities to this latest Public Storage near Sugar Land. These new locations, including Public Storage in Humble, Texas and Public Storage in Katy, Texas, provide thousands of new storage options for the area’s growing population.

New Housing and Storage in Richmond, Texas

Thanks to expansion of Grand Parkway, the 180-mile outer beltway that connects Houston’s farther suburbs like Richmond, homes are being built in areas that were once too far for commuters.

“There’s been a lot of growth west of Houston in the past five or six years,”; said Erin Beaman, the new facility manager who has been a Houstonian for over a decade. “There’s been a lot of residential areas being built.”;

These housing developments include the three master communities that are less than three miles from the new Public Storage in Richmond, Texas: Aliana Houston, Harvest Green and Long Meadow Farms.

A Richmond home is approximately $116 per square foot, according to the real estate site Zillow. More affordable compared to the $160 per square foot in Houston proper, and away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Richmond is also away from areas that experienced major flooding during recent hurricanes.

This new, low-cost housing likely encouraged Richmond’s 4 percent population jump in the last five years, according to U.S. Census data.

“It’s a high-trafficked area with a lot of great middle-income homes,”; said Jeff Fortune, a Public Storage district manager who will help oversee the property.

“This location is extremely convenient for people who are commuting or have homes in this area because it’s right off the freeway,”; Beaman added.exterior of public storage facility in richmond texas

Public Storage Offers the Best Storage in the Houston Area

Texas, a state with one of U.S. News and World Report’s top growth rankings, is expected to keep booming, and Houston along with it. So Public Storage is dedicated to providing top-quality self storage in Houston and other metro areas.

The newly-developed properties, like the latest in Richmond, TX, have units ranging from 5×5 feet to 10×30 feet. So there’s plenty of space for all types of movers heading to the Houston area – from college grads who are apartment hunting to families looking to make room for a new baby.

“A lot of people are building homes out here,”; said Beaman, who interacts with customers storing at Public Storage. “A lot of our customers put their house on the market, and it’s sold within two days. So they store with us while their new house is being constructed. I’d say that makes up 70 percent of new customers in the area.”;

What can Houstonians expect from Public Storage next year?

“2018 is going to be big,”; said Yates.
