The Silicon Valley is rapidly changing, and Public Storage is keeping up with a rise in the number of residents in Northern California by building new Milpitas storage units to accommodate them.

A new building at our Public Storage 1080 Pecten Court Milpitas, CA 95035 opened this week with 700 new, climate-controlled storage units to keep up with demand.

“The whole area is changing, and there’s limited land for storage and housing in the Bay Area,”; said Bryan Miranda, Public Storage’s vice president of west coast development. “This is a great location, because it’s on one of the largest trafficked streets in the city.”;

If you’re moving to the Bay Area for work, or just relocating to Milpitas for less-expensive housing options compared to others in the metro area, keep reading to hear about our new storage units ready for your move!

New Housing in San Francisco Bay Area

Technology professionals and others are flocking to the Bay Area for jobs in the Silicon Valley. Because of this influx of movers, the San Jose and San Francisco housing markets have become the most expensive in the country, according to the National Association of Realtors.

That’s why more and more people are turning to less-expensive cities like Milpitas, about 10 miles from San Jose and within commuting distance of big tech companies.

“Milpitas is not an affordable place, but it can be more affordable than other cities up the peninsula toward Mountain View and Cupertino where Google and Facebook are,”; said Miranda.

Between 2010 and 2016, Milpitas’s population increased by 16 percent, according to U.S. Census data. That’s a lot of new movers turning to self-storage!

To keep up with the rising population, new apartment and condo buildings are popping up all over the area.

“There are thousands of new apartments within walking distance of our Public Storage property that are in the final stages of completion,”; said Kevin Sanck, a Public Storage district manager.

The area is also becoming a more commuter-friendly city, thanks to a new, nearly finished BART commuter train station. It is also within walking distance from Public Storage, and city officials estimate it will eventually take 20,000 people per day to San Francisco and beyond for job opportunities.

Upgraded Storage Units in Milpitas, Calif.

Since the area is rapidly changing, Public Storage is making sure that new storage units are available for movers and residents with limited space at home. The new building is between existing Public Storage units, and it took the place of an RV storage lot.

“This property is in a growing market with dense residential buildings under construction,”; said Miranda.

“We are anticipating many new customers needing storage,”; Sanck added.

The new building at Public Storage on Pecten Court, near the I-680, contains 761 brand new climate controlled storage units in Milpitas, all indoors and accessible by elevator. When added to the existing storage units, which include drive-up spaces accessible from outside, the Milpitas Public Storage has more than 1,200 total spaces on site!

We strive to provide the best storage services around. So make sure to check out these new Milpitas storage units, or some at a property near you!
