Augusta Storage Units Grow Public Storage’s Presence

Mar 31, 2023 / Matthew Sanderson

Maybe you think of The Masters golf tournament when you hear of Georgia’s second largest city, but we’re just happy to focus on our customers and tee up more Public Storage Units in July with two more storage facilities we just added in the area.

We bought Public Storage 1602 N Leg Road, Augusta, GA 30909 and Public Storage 4108A Windsor Spring Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815 as the fifth and sixth Public Storage properties to open in the region. They increase our storage locations in the area by 50 percent.

“We’re looking to grow our presence in that market,”; said Whit Gilfillan, director of acquisitions. “These are well-located facilities for customer convenience.”;

We’re excited to settle back in The Garden City to help residents with their storage needs. We haven’t expanded in the Augusta area since 2013.

Our new Augusta location is visible from the intersection of Leg Road and Idlewild Drive in Forest Estates near the Augusta Mall. It is less than 10 minutes from Forest Hills Golf Course and Augusta Municipal Golf Course.

Our facility here has a tan, two-story office building with seven single story self-storage buildings offering nearly 650 storage units, including some outdoors for convenient drive-up access. About a quarter of the options here are climate controlled storage.

Our newly acquired Hephzibah location is located at the busy commercial intersection with Tobacco Road. It has a two-story beige and stone exterior retail office building with a gated entrance to nearly 550 storage units.

“One of the challenges we have faced in the Augusta market is availability due to high demand and limited supply,”; said Nathan Batchelor, a company area manager. “This will help us better serve customers.”;

Augusta Region Poised For More Growth

Augusta and its suburbs aren’t just recognized as the home of great golf, the region is steadily becoming a destination for retirees seeking warm weather with a low cost of living. The median price per square foot for homes in Augusta is $78, according to Zillow, compared to Atlanta, with a price per square foot of $245.

It’s also a great place to be due to strong economic growth – increasing personal income and home values. The area has outpaced the rest of the country for six years in a row, a trend that is expected to continue, according to a report of the University of Georgia Terry College of Business.

For fun, there are thriving culinary and music scenes, plenty of hiking options and the Augusta Riverwalk and Augusta Canal for boating and strolling.

It’s also an important stop for history buffs. After all, the town on the Savannah River was founded in the early 1700s and figured prominently in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Visitors love checking out locations like Meadow Garden, a museum that was once the home of one of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence, as well as the Augusta Museum of History. They also make stops at the birthplaces of the James Brown, the “Godfather of Soul,”; and Woodrow Wilson, the 28th U.S. president.

In all, with the business growth and sizzling housing options, our increased storage offerings for Augusta and Hephzibah are welcomed news for the area.
