Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 5529 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA

Good for short term, but if you're like me and it's been a long-term solution don't expect reasonable pricing. My now $200/mo unit (May was 157, June will be 200) has jumped considerably over the past 5 years with corporate saying that the rate increases are automatic and nothing can be done. $200 for a 5x10 non-temperature-controlled unit is more than the smallest indoor climate-controlled unit, so ask about their long-term pricing policies if you're not sure how long you'll be there.

The storage facility is fine but they have increased my rent twice resulting in an overall 30% increase in a year. I'm looking for something else

I would heartily recommend Public Storage. There are many places you can choose to store your stuff, but only one place has Keith. Keith is the the Property Manager and today he was very helpful when I went there to discuss the storage units. He was friendly, courteous, and explained the process wonderfully. Later, after I left, I had another question and called. I was actually able to speak with Michelle, the District Manager. She was great to work with, very polite, courteous, and was able to help me get my paperwork straightened out. They even were able to set up automatic payments in just a flash. The storage facilities are well-maintained, secured, convenient. I expect you will have the same wonderful experience.

Ms Mesha was amazing. I had some concerns about my unit and she handled things quickly and professionally. Very polite.

My best friend had one an online auction for one of their units, and I being her proxy was there to claim the unit for her. As it turned out she had won the unit for me because I was in need of a washer and dryer. I am very thankful for all that she has done for me. Upon entering the facility the staff promptly got to the paperwork that was required to finish the sale of this auction unit. Once that was completed, she stated that she would meet me around at the unit whereupon she would remove the lock. There is evidence of rodents at this facility. So please follow instructions that the storage managers give when they say do not store anything edible in the units. It draws rodents and other unsaviories. The washer and dryer were her reason for winning this unit. Although my home is set for a natural gas dryer, the electric one and the washer work wonderfully. Other than some surface rust on the washer, both were exceptionally clean underneath and inside. There was a mattress and rat droppings could be seen on top of it and everything else that was in there. It should be noted that these people did not have any food stored in their unit, but since others in other units don't listen, rodents abound in all units.

Mesha is so HELPFUL! I broke my key off in my lock and didn’t have money for another, luckily she was actually able to get the key out and fix the lock I had. She took the time to actually help me fix it instead of pushing for me to buy a new one. She was very kind and helpful!

Like everything else, they keep raising rental rates. They have offers, but only if your a new customer. I've tried calling to ask about lowering the rates, but no rep has ever called me back.

They have a really bad rat infestation please don’t rent a space here. They also state that they are not liable for damages but charge you 20$ for insurance and a 15$ late fee.

This is a update on my review from 2 years ago. It was ( 5 Stars Brenda was very nice and helpful ) I rented a 10X20. To store things in after my Wife past away. They gave me a discount on the second months rent. So I paid for three months upfront. Which took me through to December. I went online the beginning of December and paid another three months. Mid Jan I received a call from Public Storage that I owed 2 Months rent and almost $60 in late fees. I explained that I paid online in December. The said they could see the transaction , but it did not go through. They could not tell me way. ( I had the money in the bank) I asked why I did not get a call or email in December. They could not answer that either. I paid 3 months and the late fee. In February I went online to pay pay again and found that my rent had gone up $50. They raised it 2 more times for a total of 3 times by the end of the first year. I was paying almost double the rent It took me another year to get my things out of there. I had double knee replacement in Jan 2020 also and was off for 3 months then Covid hit. I called them and said that I would pay but would be two weeks late. I still had the late fees. Ok I expected that. I did not expect to still get the phone calls every other day (Which each time I would tell them the same date I would pay them) and the emails threatening to sell my belongings. I would not rent from any of the Public Storage locations.

It was a great experience I had here at the Public Storage. I came in around lunchtime and was looking for some units and saw the employee putting up a sign. Candice came in from lunch to help me with the deals, and took time out of her schedule to give me a tour of the facilities. The units for viewing were well kept, well lit, and cleaned thoroughly. Her approach and explanations were comprehensive and conscientiously concise. I really appreciated the time spent catering to the customer and even though I felt bad for holding up her lunch, she did not seem to mind. 11/10 would visit again.

I initially gave Public Storage a 5 star review. I had a 10x30 with no issues. I used Public Storage in the past. When I noticed one was empty near mine and asked the front desk. They told me it wasn't vacated yet. I asked them to call me if it did. No call. Yesterday I saw online one unit was available and I instantly reserved it online. I recieved a call this morning from the office manager(Lakisha) to introduce herself and to offer assistance in my upcoming move. I stopped in the office two hours later and was told they didn't have a unit and she didn't understand why it allowed  my reservation. I ask for the District Manager's number and was told Lakisha booked the unit that morning. Both the office manager and the District Manager(Brian Hannegan) said that the online reservation does not guarantee availability and that even though I recieved a call from her. Public Storage serves in store, online reservations do not hold a unit. His solution was to offer me a unit 50 sq feet smaller(10x20 vice 10x25) for more then the unit I reserved. The unit offered  was also 8 miles away from my current unit. I've attached a screen shot of the site saying "guaranteed size" that the local stores are not honoring. After talking to Cassandra Craft, it was explained that Public Storage utilizes the process of overbooking customers and that the only guarantee to a space is paying for it in the store. Point to this review, If you book online. Immediately go in and get your unit assigned. Public Storage will not honor a reservation if someone walks into the store and wants the unit. They will not honor what is done online and not inform you of the lack of availability until you go in to get the unit you reserved. On the other side, Brenda is a pleasure to work with in the office. She is the reason I initially gave the five star review. She's helpful, works with you and thorough. My rating is based on Lakisha and the Public Storage online reservation system.

I went to Public Storage at 5529 VA Bch Blvd and Brenda was wonderful!! It's hard to find good customer service these days but this is someone that knows her job and understands what customer service is all about thank you for great customer service it's about time someone likes their job.

Great customer service on the first day (Kyara?) - but that's where it ended. When confronting the BFA behind the desk about glass at the gate- instead of handling the issue I was asked a million questions that didn't pertain to me, I had just pulled in! She had the worst attitude- and so did the loser driving the car where the glass was broken at. I'll continue to rent here because I just don't wanna move my stuff again, and there's another enterance. I'll stay out of the office.

Very subpar! My girlfriend had her stuff stored at this place. I mean, it gets the job done; however, not worth the price/value as opposed to some other places such as Mini Price Storage. That's where I go for my storage needs. They are an awesome climate controlled storage facility with decent rates. With Public Storage we're talking no climate control, rat infestation issues, and if you have a large truck, navigating the tight isles is a chore in and of itself. If you just need a place to store stuff that you really don't care about or that don't require a temperate environment then this might work for you. I just wouldn't feel peace of mind with my stuff there.

I will have to say, Brenda is the best. It was my first time meeting her and right off the bat, she makes you feel as if you've known her all of your life. Top notch customer service and knowledge of the business is refreshing and appreciated. I was late getting to my unit and she was professional and thoughtful enough to stay a few minutes pass closing to help me with my situation. Need more like her! Kudos!!
