Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 6940 N 56th Street, Tampa, FL

I initially signed up online because the rates seemed fair and I was moving between homes & wanted to store some bigger items for a year or so. The fees are low for a reason. When I arrived (during the day) the storage unit I had been ‘given’ via the app had holes in the dry wall larger than a fist (with no overlaid metal protecting the walls) I.e. it would have been very easy to bust through the walls to access someone’s items in those internal units. [the roll down/ drive up units seemed the safest but I didn’t have that many items so I opt’d for the 10x5 space. Big mistake] There was mold all above the ceilings when I arrived, as well. Regardless, I did make do since I was between places but knew I wouldn’t be keeping my things here for a year as I had initially hoped. I never once felt it was a safe place to keep my things because of the half- constructed nature of those internal units. Additionally, I have a small car so I went to and from this unit over a dozen times across a multitude of days and never observed anyone at the front desk. I don’t know if people work here or just clock in and hide somewhere in the back on their phones all day. Regardless, i moved out on 9/24/24 due to all over the above. I submitted a formal request via app and received a confirmation email acknowledging this ‘move out’. As a courtesy (ie it should not be my job to remind these alleged workers to check the unit/ send me a confirmation email) I called to inform them on several occasions from 9/25/24 and beyond that the unit was empty/ clean. After leaving close to 14 voicemessages over a week of calling & asking someone to call me back to confirm …I have (to date- it is October 2nd) never received a call back. It was only fully resolved today after contacting their corporate office and explaining that it’d like a confirmation that the unit is closed and that there will be no further billing. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place; aside from the lack of safe storage the inability to call one of your customers back after 9 full days of leaving voicemails is a poor business practice. I’ve never written a one star review in my life…so this business (or location) has to be incredibly low on competency to earn this rating.

The manager at this location was very helpful and professional. Explained everything I needed to know and was very friendly.

I inquired about a storage unit today..The worker Rachel was amazing and gave superb customer service.She went above and beyond to make sure I understood everything.She took her time and explained all the different sizes and prices of storage units..

Do not trust your valuables to the Public Storage on 56th St! Everything in my entire unit was destroyed by rat infestation, termites, and black mold. They have one job: to store your things and they woefully fail at that. When I told the person at the front desk that my unit was infested, she didn't even look up from what she was doing and said she'd file an incident report which tells me this happens all the time. If you want to waste your money in rent (that they increased on the regular) and have all your possessions destroyed, by all means, give Public Storage on 56th St your business.

This location is terrible. They say they have the right to raise your monthly rent every month without giving you notice or having you sign a new contract. I signed up for a unit and by the third month I was there they raise the rent by 25% on me and by the six month they went up another 25% and then would go down a couple dollars randomly and then a few months later it went up another 25%. Within a year, my monthly amount almost doubled, and they claim they had the right to do that without notifying me or requesting that I signed new paperwork. And when I decided to move everything out 10 days early, they went ahead and denied me access even though I had paid for the full month and would no longer let me in to access my storage unit as they said they had given it to somebody else again, without notifying me or giving me a discount on the 10 days that I paid for. The office manager was never helpful and when you call they just bounce you around and never give you any real solution or answers. They all say they just can’t control it because it’s a corporate company. Would not advise renting from this location at all if any locations from Public Storage as this may be a practice they follow at all of their locations.

RATS IN THE UNITS!!! Stay far far away. Property manager couldn't even be bothered to speak up on the phone when I told him I couldn't hear him. Raised the monthly rental fee over $30 in 6 months. I want to be done with them but now I have to pay another months rent and find a way to dispose of rat infested items.

It was easy to get a storage unit. Their facilities are up to date and clean. I appreciated the lock they provided with the cost of the unit.

The manager here was super helpful. She went around the facility with me to make certain I can get my 26' uhaul truck in and out safely. Customer service was great and made renting a storage unit feel like a pleasant experience.

I used to live it the peoples who working there are really noce and keep the place really clean. But the top management are all about money they cut your lock 🔐 before the month end if you don’t pay and they are selling the lock so expensive. They don’t send you any email 📧 letting you know about that . Other facilities don’t do it like they wait for the month I can pay on the 30th that’s not fair 😡 😡

I thought I paid for a bigger storage but besides that awesome facility to store your things

Great customer service! I went in earlier today to get some information on the units here, and Chelsey was super friendly as well as Misty and they were both able to answer all of my questions.

If I could give 0 stars I would. We moved our stuff to this storage 1 month ago. When I came back to grab something there was poop and piss in the hallways, it was incredible unsanitary. It smelled like death. There was blood on the ground and roaches everywhere. Do not keep your stuff here unless you want it to get ruined. When we opened our unit there was a rat that was as big as a cat and pooped all over our stuff. When we brought it to management they just told us they would “handle it” but when we came back there was even more poop in the hallways. The day we had initially came to move our stuff out the gate was conveniently not working and there was nobody in the office to help even though they claimed to be opened all day. Do not get a unit here.

Had one of the best customer service experiences with Ms. D (Misty? Might’ve heard wrong) and Ariel! They treated my partner Erica and I with great hospitality & professionalism. Super kind, they answered all our questions and gave us useful information we didn’t know about. Highly recommend & will continue to use this Public Storage facility due to the excellent staff they hire and the quality of storage.

*WARNING* The worse place to keep your things at . I was paying over $250 a month and finding out all my items has RAT poop all over. Misty did see it and she “said she reported it” that was a lie. Also I was told to file an insurance claim threw Misty and I did. They only wanted to give me $10 for all my items that got damaged. Also Misty says she will help that’s a lie she will not help. WARNING do not rent a storage there only if you want your items damaged.

Belinda and Misty were amazing help with getting me set up with my unit and public storage app. Easy and painless process, they were also very kind.

Awful place. Will never recommend people to this storage 🐀 they MESS UP the MATTRESS AND FURNITURE. Rats had a party there with food and peeing all over my girlfriend things. NEVER RENT HERE. NOW MY GIRLFRIEND IS WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE TO DO SOMETHING LETS SEE ABOUT THAT AND IF WE DONT GET reimburse then we will call THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. Don’t even deserve half of ⭐️.

While at my storage in needed some water for my dog, as Jaedan passed by he ask if I was ok, I asked if he had any water I could give my dog, he offered to fill my bowl from the faucet and brought it back to me. I am a LYFT driver and I got stuck inside because I didn't have the code. Thankfully someone was leaving and let me out but I don't trust this company as a Lyft driver.

Today was a breeze!! Thanks to the most sweetest loveliest Rep, Ms. Misty. She was clear and concise on the policy. Very cheerful woman. It took seconds to reserve online and now they have a NEW feature where you can have access the premises thru the Public Storage app.

Highly would not recommend. I came to move out of my unit that I have had for 1 month to find rat droppings on all of my products and my family and belongings. This is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. I am currently pregnant and cannot afford to get sick from any disease from rodent waste. I honestly just want to leave it all here just so I don't have to touch or expose myself to any airborne pathogens that is common with rodent urine. Pest control should be one of the storage facilities number one priorities aside from keeping our items safe from theft. I am absolutely outraged and discussed.

I went in looking to get some boxes that I needed, to ship some items. Misty met me at the door and had the best energy. She was amazing & gave me the right size/right fit for what I needed to do and helped me pick out the appropriate packing materials to keep my items safe during shipping.
