Reviews
They increase rates randomly and by an insane amount! I’ve paid on time and in full for over a year and my rates have increased 52%. I chatted to see what could be done and they could not explain how these fee increases are used. I now know I can expect a $30-40 increase every few months no matter my record of paying. These answers and customer service was terrible and it’s a corporation and they can do whatever they want and increase rates as much as they want despite how good of a customer you are. Not having an explanation of where the extra fees go really rubs me the wrong way when things are constantly broken down, broken in to and dirty. I wish I had another option, shame on public storage for doing this to people.
Seems super sketchy. I'm not trusting this place with my things. Half the staff looks like they're on meth or something.
Ricky and Damien were very helpful in closing out my unit account, they were pretty much the only pleasant experience I had here. The main gate has been broken for at least a couple months now, someone plowed into it, and they say it's getting replaced at some point, but for now it's chained up and you have to go through the exit, which is such a security problem. I wanted to feel as my stuff was safe and secure, so many reasons to make me feel differently. Now, for them raising the price quite significantly at the same time as all these issues happening, like a lot! I guess I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have their unit broken into, every time I was there, it was the same story, broken into and then nothing was ever done about it.
Like I said in the beginning, Ricky and Damien were by far the best part of my experience with this corporate company, and that's why it got more than one star.
Do yourself a favor, find, that's most likely the same price or cheaper, something with more security, which in my opinion, is anything else.
Leaving this review for Ricky who was so helpful in giving me a tour of some storage units! He answered all my questions with enthusiasm for his job and was relatable and honest about the process at Public Storage. Ricky is friendly and provides the kind of service you'd expect any employee to do to make customers comfortable! Public Storage, South Wadsworth location in Lakewood.
Damien really helped us out a lot with all of our storage needs. He went above and beyond!
Damien is the best sales rep with tons of knowledge in his line of work.
Very clean facility and secure. The woman who helped me was very professional and informative would highly recommend. They are friendly and helpful.
EDIT — even though this place is awesome and I still rent from here they raise the prices once or twice a year and it’s not a small jump by any means. Make sure to keep track of this, especially if you have Autopay. My price has more than doubled within a year and within three years it’s almost tripled. Even though you look online and see prices for what you initially started with, would not recommend long-term but at the same time it’s one of the better ones I’ve rented from.
TLDR - DON’T DO IT - multiple break ins, property loss and damage, consistent increase to rent, even after break ins.
I moved into my 10’x15’ unit October 24, 2022. I placed two of the thick circular sliding locks on my unit, requiring keys to unlock. My unit was broken into September 27, 2023 by someone who had been recently evicted from their unit. A police report was filed and the police informed me the security footage provided by Public Storage was too poor to be able to identify who it was. However Cory, the property manager at the time, informed us they knew who it was. That he had been evicted and broken into multiple units and he had been arrested but nothing was recovered.
The locking mechanism was replaced by the facility and I paid for and replaced two new heavy duty locks. My rent was then INCREASED $100. I was living out of the country at the time and was unable to get back to move the remainder of my stuff and hoped it was a one off, unlucky situation.
6 months later, March 15, 2024, my unit was broken into AGAIN and my belongings were pulled out and strewn about the hallway. Andrea called me and stated I needed to come move my items myself to another unit, because our door was too badly damaged to put a lock on it. I explained we were out of the country and asked how it could be possible they didn’t have someone who could come fix the locking mechanism and replace the lock, instead of just leaving our unit and stored items unsecured. She stated she would reach out to the new regional manager Chris to see about having the door repaired. They did repair the door and replace the lock by the 17th, but my unit was left unsecured until that time. My rent was then INCREASED AGAIN another $100.
I scheduled a short notice trip to return to the United States and March 29th moved my remaining items out of the storage unit to another less corrupt business.
When I arrived with my moving truck and pulled up to the gate there was a message saying the gate was broken but to go ahead and drive in the exit, which was unsecured to allow anyone to enter and exit , whether they have a code or not.
I will never ever rent with Public Storage again, or recommend anyone else do so. It was an absolutely awful experience.
Very bad service ! Horrible company, storage units are supposed to be accesible since 6 am and are never available when I try to go take things out of my unit, bathrooms don’t work and there is no Dollie’s, if there is it’s broken, today the door was broken so I tried getting help from an associate and he did not want to help us because “he needs to take his lunch break” and that we have to wait an hour for him until he comes back which I did not do because if my monthly payment is increasing so should the amount of service DO NOT RECOMMEND !
Broken into 2 times in 6 months. The property doesn't seem to care that this is an issue. Especially after raising the rates to almost triple what it was when we moved in.
Why am I paying rent on a unit I can't access? Elevators are both broken and apparently no other way up to my unit, according to the person at the desk. What's the point of paying for this unit if I can't even get to it when I need to?
Clean and secure.
Great customer service very easy to set up and they were very accommodating. Brianna and Alayna provided great customer service and definitely recommend to anyone looking for storage.
I have no idea why this facility has so many stars; this place is a dump. I had a family members belongings stored here whom was out of state so unfortunately it was out of my hands to move however I made that possible last week! If you care about your things AND your own safety, choose elsewhere. I have been coming here since the beginning of COVID and you never know what you’re going to get! There is always signs of either people living in the units, or some other kind of shady/illegal activity; not to mention one of the gates or doors is always broken. Last week, it was a broken door AND a bowl of urine in one of the elevators! Let me tell you, smelled just lovely…
DO BETTER.
BEWARE! Do not move here! My unit along with many others was broken into. Apparently this has been going on for months and no notification from the staff that this was happening. The lack of over all communication is horrible. When you call to talk to someone no one calls you back. This is NOT a secure facility! BEWARE!!
DO NOT use this storage location. My storage unit was broken into around September 23 - I filed a police report and I asked if they could provide video surveillance to figure out how this happened - nothing was done. Sedwick, the insurance company that you are not allowed to waive when you rent a unit, denied my claim because my lock was not broken - they did not ask for video to figure out who/how is that the items were taken from the storage unit. Makes more sense to blame the tenant for suspiciously leaving the unit "unlocked", than to proof otherwise. You have to use a security code to access the gate, entry, and elevators, and still NO RESPONSIBILITY whatsoever from this company or their insurance company. Lakewood Police thinks it is an inside job, but nothing is done to try and catch the people doing this. If you have valuables, especially those that are priceless and/or irreplaceable DON'T STORE THEM HERE!!
I really enjoyed talking to Mr.Blackwell I could not afford the rental but he Informed me bout deals and made me feel welcomed. I enjoyed the short time I was with him .
Units broken into…like all the time. No joke. Here’s a photo. Office doesn’t reply back or answer voicemails and doesn’t pick up phone. I’ve called three times left message and no reply. It’s been months. Stuff everywhere a lot. Especially by trash. Lot isn’t gated cause people keep breaking in. It’s continuous.
The manager and assistant gentlemen managers
Hours posted says it’s open, but everything is locked and closed. Guess I’ll go somewhere else
HORRIBLE experience, do not place your belongings here. I waited a while to share however I am seeing others that had a similar experience. My storage unit was broken into in July, filed a police report, never heard anything. I just moved everything out but my storage unit was ransacked. Looks like they may have caught the people because as of July 2023 they didn’t! Plus my rent was going up $44 a month. Glad I left when I did.
Terrible experience here. Unit was broken into. They told me to file a claim. I asked about securing the unit and was told I have to talk to corporate. It’s been four days since we discovered the break in and I’ve yet to receive a resolution. I was told several people were arrested in regards to break ins, but got no answers as far as what’s going to be done with securing the facility further. Called daily and cannot get any questions answered. Don’t move in here. Not a secure facility and no customer service to even get help when a problem arises.
Ended up having to move out of my unit. The main office stopped answering my calls. The district manager said they would secure the unit but never did. TERRIBLE customer service in an unsecured property. Please go elsewhere to rent.
Everytime I go to my unit the place is trashed outside and today the security doors were wide open and off track. It use to be nice here but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Please do your self a favor and go to anywhere else but here I did not put stuff in a unit bit helped unload and man was it a terrible experience the codes weren't working properly and the assistant manager was as rude and unhelpful as it gets we started unloading with no problems untill the assistant manager closed one of the doors on us then when we tried using the code it did not work I told him I was going to keep the door open and he said our client was going to have to pay a fee if that's not entrapment I don't know what is the facility was dirty and customer service was non existent I went to get the restroom key and the assistant manager was rude and had a customer that seemed like she was so upset it frustrated me and to top it all off everything he was throwing a fit about was security issues but my client still had a bicycle stolen from her unit please stay away
Don't do it. They don't even have anyone working here. Homeless and their trash all over. I could post endless photos of damage and trash, but this single one with the sign in the background says it all..... Moving our stuff as I type this!
Robin is a life savor thank you for helping me.
Terrible storage facility my unit was broken into on the 3rd floor of a secured building with cameras. I was told by the “big” boss that they probably don’t have camera footage of anything, Maybe it’s just me but that seems incredibly suspicious. not to mention the insurance they make you purchase will not cover anything that was stolen. Hopefully this review will help others avoid the mistake of choosing this sub par facility
Lovely staff! Very clean, safe and organized location. Judy and Leslie were very helpful with my move in and move out!
Sadly we had to move due to people breaking into our unit but that is not the fault of Public Storage.
The five stars is for the staff. They helped me understand everything and when it came to moving out, they were very understanding and kind.
Robin did a great job helping me with a late fee thank you for your great customer servive
Nice clean facility, prices were very reasonable. The manager MaryAnne took time from her lunch to show me around a couple different size storage units I was thinking about. Picked one out and she got me set up and ready to go quickly. Very great experience. Thank you!
Update: 3/30/2023 Recently switched units here and Leslie helped me out through the whole process. She help me set up reservations and even gave me a call when the time got near. Thanks Leslie for all the help!
Judy is amazing, hope she gets well soon as she is missed!
Judy is amazing!
I called in a panic and she listened to my concerns...and helped me figure out everything!
I appreciate you Judy 🥰
Updated Review: Judy at the office is amazing! She is always helpful and sweet, BUT my unit was broken into and a motorcycle and gear stolen, and my rate got increased the following month by $61! I left messages and never got called back and also called their customer service number, which was a joke. Could not gwt anyone live. Finally got a late fee as I was waiting to hear about this rental increase, and now they are saying no rental adjustment and can't waive the late fee. Its their error, yet I have never been late and always pay full ahead of time. Their customer service is horrendous. I finally got a hold of corporate just to get them on text and they are rude and not helpful at all.
Judy is a SUPERSTAR. She made our experience a great one. We had our furniture in storage for 1 year with no issues.
Needed to change units, Judy was a great help!
Just was simply amazing. She was super friendly and greeted me with a wave and the best smile as soon as I walked in the door. It is very refreshing to have an interaction with someone who enjoys her job and treats people with dignity and respect. Thank You Judy.
I have rented storage units for years at almost every storage companies in Denver and my experience with public storage on south Wadsworth was like know other the manager Judy couldn't have made renting any better she personally gave every detail from the unit size prices to the dates of billing there was know fine print surprises she made sure of that I don't have much to say with all the other storage companies and can't give all the reasons to rent at public storage by far in a league of their own thanks to the grate staff and Anthony Muniz district manager thank you
