Self Storage FAQs
Self-storage prices vary by location, unit size, features, and availability. Smaller units typically cost less than larger ones, and indoor and climate-controlled units may be priced differently than standard units. Public Storage offers month-to-month rentals, so you only pay for the time you need.
Specials vary by location and unit type, so checking current rates and promotions in your area is the best way to find the most up-to-date offers.
Start by taking inventory of what you plan to store and how often you'll need to access it. A small 5x5 unit often fits boxes or small household items, while medium sizes like 10x10 work well for multiple rooms' worth of belongings. Larger units, such as 10x20 or 10x30, are designed for bigger items or business needs.
Indoor Storage Units: Located inside a building with hallway access.
Outdoor Drive-Up Units: Ground-level units you can drive up to for quick loading and unloading.
Climate-Controlled Units: Designed to help maintain more consistent temperature and humidity levels. Availability varies by location.
Vehicle Storage: Options may include parking spaces or enclosed units for cars or small trailers.
RV or Boat Storage: Typically offered as open or covered parking spaces at select locations.
Business Storage: Units suited for storing inventory, equipment, or supplies without the cost of commercial property.
Features and availability vary by facility.

Climate-controlled storage helps maintain more consistent temperature and humidity levels inside the unit. It's commonly used for items like books, fabrics, electronics, or other belongings that can react to extreme heat, cold, or humidity. Climate-controlled storage is available at many—but not all—locations, so availability depends on the facility.
Drive-up access refers to a ground-level storage unit that you can pull your vehicle right up to. This makes loading and unloading quicker because you don't need to use hallways, elevators, or stairs. It's often chosen for storing larger items or boxes you'll want to move in and out easily.
Some storage facilities offer 24/7 access as an added feature, while others provide extended access hours. Availability varies by property, so it's best to check your location's access hours when renting a unit.
Common security features include:
• Gated access with individualized entry codes
• Bright lighting throughout the property
• Onsite staff during office hours
• Video surveillance
• Well-maintained fencing and facility grounds
• Storage unit locks available for purchase

Marnie was so incredibly helpful with a very difficult situation. She went above and beyond with patience and grace. Thank you for an awesome experience
Marnie at Public Storage was absolutely amazing! She provided excellent customer service, was friendly, professional, patient, and made the whole process so easy. She went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed and answered all of my questions. It’s refreshing to receive such genuinely helpful and kind service. Public Storage is lucky to have her—thank you, Marnie!
Daniel was fantastic and so was Cora. Super service.
Nice and easy, quiet, clean and safe
I met with a Marnie today, she was extremely helpful and friendly. She made my choice very easy. She was accommodating and answered all my questions. Highly recommend this facility.
What a great experience! Check in was quick, the place is spotless, and knowledgeable friendly staff.
Cora awesome
Was very easy and staff were very helpful.
Cora, the Manager, was very kind and helpful to show me several units available for rent. When it turned out the unit I rented was not going to work, she helped me cancel the rental agreement. Tim, the District Manager, was also very helpful and willing to work with me. I appreciate this kind of Customer Service, as unfortunately it's disappearing all over. But not here, they were awesome! Thank You!
Marnie was excellent to work with. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Customer service was top notch and it was a pleasure working with her to get our unit set up. She was filling in at this location on this day and still provided amazing customer service and it wasn’t even her regular property. Public storage should be proud that she takes her job to the next level.
Cora is & was terrific!
Very secure, clean.
Cora the manager helpful with managing account.
Marnie did a great job showing us around and providing us great information about the property. Thank you!
Marnie was an excellent person! We had a great time and she answered a lot of questions! She was also very nice and helpful!
Marnie is awesome and took care of everything.
Easy and efficient process and helpful staff. Access to the climate controlled units is difficult and some of my items fell off the cart because the transition from the parking area to the elevator is so steep.
Marnie- has been great with information- and terrific to work with.
Very informative and great attitude!
Highly recommend!!
I was really happy with this storage place. Clean, and well maintained. :)
Marnie was absolutely the best very kind, fast check in, I would recommend this location.
Mannie was awesome. She got me into my storage without a hassle. Super attentive and friendly. Please give her the highest rating!
Same day move in. Super fast and accommodating. Affordable, safe, and secure. Marnie was helpful and made my move out process smooth and easy.
I had an excellent experience at this Public Storage location. The facility is very clean, well-maintained, and secure, with cameras throughout the property, which gave me peace of mind. I especially want to commend Marnie for her outstanding customer service. She was extremely patient, took the time to give me a thorough walk-through of the facility, and carefully went over all the available options to make sure my storage needs were met. Her professionalism and attention to detail made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend this location, especially with Marnie’s excellent support!
Dawn, was over the top helpful prior to move-in and move-out. She explained things thouroughly; especially for move-out. I thought moving out would be somewhat problematic but between the two of us, it was well executed! Thank you Dawn.
I’m in the middle of selling my home while living in it and a storage unit made sense. My friend recommend this location to me and Cora was able to help me set everything up in less than 15 minutes. I am very grateful for her help!
Clean, efficient and great service from Marnie and staff!
My experience here at the Highlands Ranch facility was fantastic. I was a customer here for over 19 years. When I opened the door to my unit, it was as if I had just stored my items here. And it had been 19 plus years! The quality and customer service here has been truly exemplary! That's a huge credit to Cora. She was on top of every issue and always provided solutions. As a retired Marine, I know that leadership starts from the top. This facility and the great people who work here will always have my respect!
Marnie helped greatly with checking me in and making sure I was satisfied with the storage unit.
Corey and Cindy run this place so well! So glad we used a storage unit and chose them. Give it a try!
First time ever using a storage facility and this was so simple and hassle free to use. The app made getting in and out a breeze.
Cora was very helpful. Thank you!
Marnie was an amazing property manager to work with. She knew so much, advocated for my needs in storage and was so kind.
Marnie was terrific to work with
Cora was extremely helpful!
Cora and Louie are awesome! Takes great care of us!
Great place to store! Clean, and always a cart available!
Hi just got started with public storage and had a great experience. The app, directions, and mainly Cora were great. I live right down the street and I asked about the police presence given some of the other reviews. She assured me they’ve taken steps to up security and I believe they have. We don’t live in a perfect world and people will always have bad intentions. Good on them for doing what they can to prevent this. Facility is clean, wasn’t busy, and appreciate the tech to basically be entirely touchless.
Cora was amazing and did so much more than expected. She took a lot of time and care to get me taken care of
Bryan, at the Highlands Ranch Public Storage, was immensely helpful to me. Public Storage app was less than helpful. He was able to walk me through the website and get me taken care of. Thank you Bryan!
Bryan at Highlands was incredibly helpful! The app was not working and he helped me navigate the on-line site. Thank you!
I have had 2 storage units here in HR since 2021, paying on them both while living back home in MI. There's a story behind all of that but I would have to write a novel! I would just like to say, after dealing with a few other employees during my time there, BRIAN has been incredibly helpful and was able to help me more in one day than the others were able to do over the last 3 YEARS! I would literally dread it if I would have to call the office, knowing nothing was going to be accomplished. I look forward to eventually being able to get our things back home, but until then, I am very happy to know that if any more issues do arise, that he will have no problem handling it for me. Thank you so much for your help, Brian...You are doing an AMAZING job!!
Needed some assistance and spoke to Bryan. He worked with me and solved my issue. Great customer service by Bryan
Bryan’s customers service was great thank you Bryan for your help
Excellent customer service, Bryan was awesome to talk to and he was super helpful! Thank you!!!
I have been in and out of the climate controlled building on Siskin
for 20 years. The last 2 years the Air Conditioning has not worked and the building was getting up to over 105. Also the security doors on that building were not working and were always wide open. There is a new manager at that location named Bryan that I spoke to about the issues and I came in today and the air was working and the security doors. The 5 stars are for Bryan, not Public storage ! Thanks Bryan!
Nice store. Bryan was polite and helpful.
I had booked a storage unit with a certain other green logoed storage company, and due to a glitch in their system was unable to access it upon arrival. Their customer service team wasn't able to get the issue fixed, and I was left with a full moving truck due back that same afternoon. I drove to this Public Storage location as it was the nearest one, and I'm glad I did. Clarissa went above and beyond and helped me to get the perfect unit the same day, saving me over $100 in additional fees for my rental truck. I'm very glad I chose this location, and I appreciate the easy and helpful experience, would recommend to anyone considering renting a unit here!
Clarissa was super helpful! Good location
Dawn is such a sweet heart! Thank you for everything. You have amazing customer service and I hope you continue to be blessed.
Getting everything set up in a pinch was easy through these guys. Dawn was helpful and flexible when it came to having moving pods dropped off when it came time to move out. No discount for 5⭐️ reviews, unfortunately.

I have rented several storage units at many Public Storage locations, but this location has been one of the best experiences thanks to the property manager Dawn. I opened two unit back in October starting with the online process. Dawn called me right away to confirm my reservation and walk me though the process.
