Every PS location needs a James! I had problems finishing my reservation through the website but he took the time to help me get my unit in no-time flat. An absolute rock star!

Stay away from this place. Rate increases like crazy I was at $66 not two years later $133. Plus, they hit you with fees for to spend a few days late and then they try to sell your place. If you don’t pay within a couple weeks this is the worst Storage ever cash crab. If you can’t avoid this and go to one of the local chains not too far down the road.

Unit was broken into many items were stolen or broken. The main manager did nothing to help any of the other 17!!! units that got broken into and have not told anyone about the break-ins. They have not helped whatsoever. They also have not helped the police force look into it at all. We found out a month later ours was broken into. Do not go here at all!!

James is super attentive, remembered we wanted an upgrade and reached out to us promptly when it became available. Very friendly and just great to work with.

Avoid this place it’s changed so much since Public Storage took over. These are the most heartless ungrateful business owners ever they will hit you with fees after fees and try to sell your stuff if you’re just a few weeks late on your payment company this is the worst storage place I’ve ever had.

I have had a unit for about 6 months to keep backstock for my business and recently have found rat droppings on my boxes and moths in some things. Just left my second voicemail trying to find out about pest control and if they have any more secure spaces. No one has called me back yet and this seems like an urgent issue. I will be moving things out of here soon.

Personnel very helpful. Very clean. Could use more carts. A bit awkward having to type in a long code to open the doors when you are moving a-lot of boxes in/out. Prices were fair. Overall very good experience.

Be careful that Public Storage advertises teaser rates and then raises rents once your stuff is stored. I’m being charged $221 for an upstairs 10x10 unit currently advertised for $109/mo. The condition of the facility has improved since Public Storage took over and onsite staff are helpful. I’m frustrated that I’ll need to move to get a fair price.

This place does not really care about your experience as a customer. A couple of weeks ago somebody broke into my storage unit and stole a very large and expensive cargo bicycle. They broke in from the ceiling by crawling over the chicken wire above the storage units and lifting the chicken wire panels up to gain access to my space. They were able to somehow lift a 75 pound bike that is 6 feet long up into the ceiling and drag it out of there! I can't see this happening during the daytime so it had to have happened at night. This means sketchy people are spending the night in this place...then when all is quiet they are crawling around the chicken wire ceiling and gaining access to the storage units and stealing peoples belongings. I would think they would benefit from a network of security cameras in the aisle ways to notify security of an off hours intrusion....but no cameras anywhere in the aisles...only in the entry way and office I believe. This of course I brought attention to the "Management" but they neglected to repair the torn wire in my unit and invited me to leave if I did not like it. I would recommend not doing business with a place like this...but if you do, be careful with valuable things and perhaps think about using their insurance. With that said, I would not expect making an insurance claim to go much better....Just Sayin. My recommendation is to go somewhere else!

James was absolutely lovely and extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend anyone who has issued to report to him. He’s the man!

James is a five-star manager at this location! If you want excellent customer service make sure you speak & book your storage with him :). Can’t say enough good things about this individual!!

When I first rented, it was a new building and it was run by friendly, hopeful staff. Public Storage either bought , or took over the management of this property And has run it into the ground! I don’t think the elevators have been cleaned since they took over. The exterior maintenance looks like it has been canceled because all the landscaping is dead and there is garbage everywhere. Now I get a notice that they want to raise my rent by 28%.

DO NOT trust your belongings to the Public Storage facility at 685 Southeast Division Place in Portland, Oregon. They will arbitrarily sell the contents of your unit at auction with no notice and no respect for Oregon laws pertaining to that process. I've had a unit there for years. On October 31st, 2023 my unit was paid in full. On December 21st, 2023 my belongings were sold at auction. I was not given the proper notice required by Oregon state law. I had just been called that very same day reminding me to make my payment, telling me what my balance was, and telling me that if I didn't get it paid, my belongs would be sold at auction on February 15th, 2024. Imagine my surprise when I found out that my belongings had been sold for $30 on December 21st. The representative at the facility was rude and argumentative and unprofessional and just sleazy. It's obvious they have made a mistake, but instead of handling the situation with any kind of grace, this guy starts picking arguments with me. It was terrible timing and he is a terrible example of a customer service representative, in my opinion. Obviously you value your belongings or you wouldn't take the time or expense of storing them, so please, please, please do not trust them to this facility or the company in general.

I'm leaving this place as soon as they can provide trolley carts. It's sad how horrible this place has become in the past year. The front gate was down for over a month so good luck if you needed to move furniture or anything that wouldn't fit through a standard door. The one (out of two) elevators was recently broken for a few months. To add icing to the cake, they increased rent last month. Good luck getting your things in and out of this place, which is a joke considering it's a storage place and that's what you're supposed to be able to do. I was told that they "have new carts ordered" but I'll have to get in there to use one before they are all stolen (again... and again). I can tolerate most inconveniences but at this point I feel they are just taking money without providing the service I'm paying for. If you're still reading, find another storage facility!

Nice storage facility, but the big positive of this location is James! He is so thoughtful, helpful, and kind. You can tell he really cares about his job and making customers feel comfortable and appreciated. This place wouldn’t be the same without him!

Very clean and maintained location. James in particular went above and beyond in helping me resolve an issue recently with my storage unit that required several phones calls. I really appreciate the individual attention and customer service he provided. A recommend location for close in Portland storage.

It's honestly amazing how aggravating it's been to use this facility. 1. My unit was broken into through the chicken wire that makes up the ceiling of most units - the tin snips used to do it were even left behind, as shown in the picture. When I called the facility to report it, I was told I was the 21st(!!!) person to flag the break-in. They never sent out as much as an email to notify their other customers that their units may be compromised. They only have security cameras by the elevators so they also had no footage of any of this occurring. I was also told that the units were being resecured, but the tin snips and cut wire were still there on the day I moved out a few months later. So know that the units are easily broken into by climbing above the door and cutting the wire, and even if this happens to your whole floor of the facility you won't be notified. 2. I took time out of my work day for a scheduled appointment with the staff to facilitate a move between units at one point. I wasn't able to find a staff member onsite until 45 mins after my scheduled appointment time. 3. There are only two carts available for use for the whole facility, which are also only available when the facility is staffed. This should be during the posted office hours, but as mentioned above, this appears to be wildly inconsistent. As such, they are either always in use or otherwise unavailable. 4. The elevator doors try to close pretty quickly after opening, so if you're wrestling with large furniture, you'll also be wrestling with the elevator to get them upstairs. I have more complaints associated with the facility under previous management, but the summary is that I'm really not happy with how they've handled break-ins, and even when it's business as usual I've faced one headache after another in my dealings with this place. Find somewhere else to store your things.

AVOID THIS FACILITY. After being purchased by Public Storage (another faceless corporation), this corporation knowingly rented units on all floors to a crime ring that stole tens of thousands of dollars of goods. No one has been notified of this burglary, and I myself had thousands of dollars of goods stolen. They rent to people with stolen/no ID, and are basically giving criminals an open license to steal your belongings. Don't be like me. Find a place that will: A) Actually check that the person who is renting is who they say they are. B) Will actually keep your belongings safe. C) Will provide reasonable insurance for when your belongings are stolen.

My unit was recently broken into and nothing has been done about it

Super happy with my space here - 24 hour video surveillance, easy set up process, great easy app for access and payments, easy truck access, and super-nice service. James and Justice are the best! Located just where I need it, too, nice and central, and easy to get to.

Being new to the area I was looking for an affordable storage unit and I found this storage facility instantly on Google maps. James the front service representative was very helpful in getting the perfect size storage unit for my needs. I highly recommend anyone who needs immediate storage to come talk to James at this location.

In the past I have used seven different storage places in Portland and since Public Storage took over Central Storage it has increased my satisfaction and my confidence that this is probably the best storage facility in Portland the allow us to use the bathrooms and unless you're in their office talking with them they leave you alone it's clean it's safe and conveniently located near the max and Southeast and downtown Portland

3rd purchase in short time. New owners won't take payment over the phone. Can't wait to move my stuff out

This place was taken over by Public Storage, and the new rental agreement requires you to opt out of their insurance, which you must do in person. I feel that this is unethical.

Had a unit here for years now, price keeps going up but it's still been good to me.

Good storage major issue with the office lady locking up the bathrooms during business hours and keeping them unavailable I guess due to what she explains as a homeless girl that's a tenant that uses it too much. Apparently we all suffer for that very irritating I can't tell if it's laziness or profiling customers but she will go out of her way to lock the up for good or stick an out of order sign on them most the time especially when homeless people are present. She made it clear to me in the office one day she locked them on purpose everytime certain homeless people showed up. Unprofessional. Unfair to other customers, why do we have to pay. Just ugly.

Sad. When we moved in the manager was super on it and the business felt like it was in capable hands. By move out the office was closed during its opening hours and customer service was lousy. I’d only use this place as a back up.

Lots of theft, and security is literally nonexistent. There are only cameras -- My unit was broken into, like many others here. Hours are frustrating -- access is limited to 7am-7pm, and if you're caught inside after 7pm you are locked in the building and the police get involved, according to a new memo posted. This policy is probably due to...theft. It's also in a sketchy area with some colorful individuals shuffling around like Portland zombies; beware if you park your vehicle exposed on the street if it's busy here. (The garage only holds 2-3 vehicles at once) The silver lining is that I have had positive interaction with the employees that I've encountered - they seem nice. Aside from all of that, they'll hold your stuff in storage just fiiiine.

No access to carts outside of limited business hours (absolutely none on Sundays) Didn’t have this issue when I rented a unit from them a few years ago. So I had to unexpectedly lug two loads of stuff by hand and waste half a day looking for a better solution. No mention of this when I reserved the unit online or I would have went with another location.

I had a unit here and it was broken into and everything stolen. The facility was not very helpful and wouldn’t let me see the surveillance footage.

DO NOT RENT HERE! This place is an absolute nightmate to deal with and both customer service and the clowns who run this particular location are of little and rude as can be. The FIRST problem was a sudden change in my gate access code that I was not made aware of AT ALL untill I tried to access the unit using the provided code in my confirmation email. So I called customer service and they told me that the code had been changed but I never recieved notification of this change in the gate access code. After figuring out the gate code situation and ensuring with customer support that my lease was completed and that my unit was ready/available I go to unload all my belongings from the uhaul at the facility only to find a lock on the door...... Called customer service up and they said they dont know why there is a lock on the door and the best advice they have for me is to come back tomorrow despite having all of my belongings ready to move into storage at the facility. The property manager eventually called me back the following day only to tell me that they didnt lock the storage unit, they just "put a lock on the door to mark it as reserved" (the unit was locked) and that they would have removed that lock had I reserved the unit before 7pm on saturday (when they are still in the office). My confirmation email with gate code (the one that was incorrect) and storage unit # reads 4pm on saturday so they should have removed the lock according to her........ but they didnt. I told the manager I had to go with another location nearby and that I would be requesting a refund. She then tried to tell me that they wont refund what was charged to my credit card because it reads as non refudable DESPITE the company not holding up their end of the contract by not having my unit available whenthey said it was ready.

This place is awful. The manager, Kristian, is unprofessional and rude. She came up behind me silently while I was at my unit and was staring in, looking at my stuff. I found out immediately after that there have been a lot of thefts at Central Self at the Division location, and after dealing with Kristian and the others working there, I would bet heavily the thefts are an inside job. I moved out immediately after finding out. AVOID this place

Negative Stars - This place is a joke - Beware DO NOT rent here - Also had my unit recently broken into - Complete negligence. No help from anyone and on top of that they recenly raised the rent for the third time since they took over - Probably to pay for their so called New 24 hour security that should have been there in the first place. Avoid Central Self Storage at any location the company does not care about the consumer.

——9/22/22 UPDATE: INFORMED BY INSURANCE THAT 18 TOTAL BREAK-INS HAVE HAPPENED, STILL NO SECURITY UPDATE—— !!!BEWARE!!! !!!MULTIPLE BREAK-INS WITHIN THE COURSE OF THE PAST MONTH WITH NO CHANGE TO THEIR SECURITY!!! Manager is extremely young (<25) and refuses to do anything to help or even to take responsibility for the fact that the break-ins keep happening despite the fact that they’re NEVER forced entry; the only way in and out of the building is with a code! More specifically, a code that is UNIQUE to each renter, which means that they could EASILY figure out who it was if it wasn’t a child running the place! We found out that our unit had been broken into at some point over the past month when we went in to get some things over the weekend, thankfully the individual that was there when we found out (She was very new, apparently every single manager who had been there for a while was out of town) was very helpful, and actually helped us cut the new lock that the thief had put on. That’s right, this place’s theft problem is so bad that the thieves literally PLAN TO COME BACK LATER to fully clear out units. I saw that other review that was posted TWO WEEKS AGO about a break-in which has a business reply, however when we initially found out our unit was broken into we were told they had only just learned about it the day before ours! Better yet, even though the break-in obviously had to have occurred before we had paid for the next month (we visited the day after it was auto-charged) the very young “manager” said she couldn’t even refund us for that. Go absolutely anywhere else that isn’t another one of this business’ locations, the only thing “Central” stands for is Thief Central.

This facility has had repeated break in's. they refuse to inform the tenants that there has been a break-in at the facility as well as refusing to view surveillance. the comments about a new 24hr security system being in place is not true. the doorlocks and codes have not changed in 3 years. the only cameras in the building are at the elevator. Management is never on site during posted hours. I waited 4 hours for the property manager to return from lunch that ended at 3pm so i could report the break in. I did not speak with them till 630pm. When I inquired about getting my possessions resecured they said I could use wire to fix the hole in the fence on the ceiling myself or I could move everything into a different locker by 7pm when they close, by myself. They are also saying they don't refund rent. However if you signed your lease with extraspace storage before central took over. That is not in your lease. Its also not in the notice of change that they sent saying they would still abide by that lease.

I would give them a negative 0 if I could. My unit was also broken into and thousands of dollars worth of items destroyed or lost yet I was not notified. It doesn't matter that I had insurance because I feel violated my person things right down to my spare underwear were touched but staff could care less. They failed me in not only storing but protecting my things. The staff didn't call the police nor inform me that I had to do it which is a requirement of the insurance THEY SOLD ME ! I will never do business with this unsympathetic company again and I hope no one else does either.

Very secure building and 2 elevators which is important as I'm disabled!

I had around 50k worth of items missing from my storage. They have no cameras in the actual structure, only the entrance. Horrible security. Definitely go to a different storage facility. Then office is never available when they say they are. Gross waste of the owners resources. Just all around not a good experience. They don’t even notify you when you’re broken into. Pros: The building is new and located directly next to a bum camp.

My unit was broken into and everything stolen from it on Monday. It was the middle of the day, The staff wouldn’t call the police and informed me via email. The garage door is often broken and was once not working for months. the key coded door is also often broken. The carts are always missing. Beware I will never consider this place again. Their are often contents of units strewn across the hall and I was charged for a full month after my unit was robbed halfway through the month. Beware.

Arrived during business hours and the office was closed. The sign said the manager would be back at 11:30. We arrived at 11:45 so….We even called and tried to speak to a staff member about purchasing a storage unit. Nobody showed up. We left.

Changing review from five stars to one star. @Central_Storage needs more carts on Se Division Portland Oregon location. Only 2 carts and office staff says most are “gone missing” I pay $1200 a year for this place and use it like 2x a year to store tires that weigh 150 pounds each. I do not want to have to roll each one down a 100 yard series of halls. Get more carts or I am moving my stuff! This is ridiculous.
