Self Storage FAQs
Self-storage prices vary by location, unit size, features, and availability. Smaller units typically cost less than larger ones, and indoor and climate-controlled units may be priced differently than standard units. Public Storage offers month-to-month rentals, so you only pay for the time you need.
Specials vary by location and unit type, so checking current rates and promotions in your area is the best way to find the most up-to-date offers.
Start by taking inventory of what you plan to store and how often you'll need to access it. A small 5x5 unit often fits boxes or small household items, while medium sizes like 10x10 work well for multiple rooms' worth of belongings. Larger units, such as 10x20 or 10x30, are designed for bigger items or business needs.
Indoor Storage Units: Located inside a building with hallway access.
Outdoor Drive-Up Units: Ground-level units you can drive up to for quick loading and unloading.
Climate-Controlled Units: Designed to help maintain more consistent temperature and humidity levels. Availability varies by location.
Vehicle Storage: Options may include parking spaces or enclosed units for cars or small trailers.
RV or Boat Storage: Typically offered as open or covered parking spaces at select locations.
Business Storage: Units suited for storing inventory, equipment, or supplies without the cost of commercial property.

Climate-controlled storage helps maintain more consistent temperature and humidity levels inside the unit. It's commonly used for items like books, fabrics, electronics, or other belongings that can react to extreme heat, cold, or humidity. Climate-controlled storage is available at many—but not all—locations, so availability depends on the facility.
Drive-up access refers to a ground-level storage unit that you can pull your vehicle right up to. This makes loading and unloading quicker because you don't need to use hallways, elevators, or stairs. It's often chosen for storing larger items or boxes you'll want to move in and out easily.
Some storage facilities offer 24/7 access as an added feature, while others provide extended access hours. Availability varies by property, so it's best to check your location's access hours when renting a unit.
Common security features include:
• Gated access with individualized entry codes
• Bright lighting throughout the property
• Onsite staff during office hours
• Video surveillance
• Well-maintained fencing and facility grounds
• Storage unit locks available for purchase
Features can vary widely by location, so reviewing your facility's offerings is recommended.

I needed a place to Store my 40’ RV, and I found it difficult to get my RV into the location that I originally picked. I had to change locations, and the fact that Public Storage owns several locations around the Boise area, and all are on a central computer system, made it easy to accommodate my needs.
Josh was exceptionally patient & helpful.
Always helpful and clean. Under new management.
Josh at Public Storage = 10/10!
Greeted us with a grin, nailed the perfect 5x10' unit, snagged us first-month special, and had us signed & locked in 8 minutes flat. Zero hassle, all heart.
Thanks, Josh—you’re the reason we’ll tell everyone about this place!
Super easy to complete the rental contract online, never had to go in during office hours. Most important benefit for us was 24/7 access but they also make everything super convenient. We’ll be renting for the foreseeable future for sure. 👍
Take your office hours of operation off Google if the door is locked all week and no one is physically at the site to attend to paying customer needs!
Josh and Jennifer have been very kind and amazing to work with! Thank you so much for all of your help!
So glad public storage took over the last company was horrible. The regional manager was absent. They never could keep employees. Strange things happened with people's locks on their units... hopefully this place will be run properly now.
Well, I loved this place when it was Idaho Storage. They were always responsive and helpful. But the minute it switched to Public Storage, things started getting incredibly difficult. I am glad I left when I did.
I vacated my unit right when they were switching hands. I submitted a notice to vacate with Idaho Storage and emailed them. I also submitted such notice with Public Storage. Before the end of the month, I was out of there. On the day I vacated, I attempted to go into the office to speak with someone about closing my account--no one was there. I attempted to call the office about 4 times that day--no one picked up. I left a message--no one called me back.
Now I get an email about how my unpaid rent is overdue. I call, and FINALLY get a response. But instead of resolving my issue and closing my account, the representative put the burden back on me to "call again later". It still has not been resolved to this day.
Really an annoying experience with this place. Idaho Storage will be missed.
