Self Storage FAQs
Self-storage prices vary by location, unit size, features, and availability. Smaller units typically cost less than larger ones, and indoor and climate-controlled units may be priced differently than standard units. Public Storage offers month-to-month rentals, so you only pay for the time you need.
Specials vary by location and unit type, so checking current rates and promotions in your area is the best way to find the most up-to-date offers.
Start by taking inventory of what you plan to store and how often you'll need to access it. A small 5x5 unit often fits boxes or small household items, while medium sizes like 10x10 work well for multiple rooms' worth of belongings. Larger units, such as 10x20 or 10x30, are designed for bigger items or business needs.
Indoor Storage Units: Located inside a building with hallway access.
Outdoor Drive-Up Units: Ground-level units you can drive up to for quick loading and unloading.
Climate-Controlled Units: Designed to help maintain more consistent temperature and humidity levels. Availability varies by location.
Vehicle Storage: Options may include parking spaces or enclosed units for cars or small trailers.
RV or Boat Storage: Typically offered as open or covered parking spaces at select locations.
Business Storage: Units suited for storing inventory, equipment, or supplies without the cost of commercial property.

Climate-controlled storage helps maintain more consistent temperature and humidity levels inside the unit. It's commonly used for items like books, fabrics, electronics, or other belongings that can react to extreme heat, cold, or humidity. Climate-controlled storage is available at many—but not all—locations, so availability depends on the facility.
Drive-up access refers to a ground-level storage unit that you can pull your vehicle right up to. This makes loading and unloading quicker because you don't need to use hallways, elevators, or stairs. It's often chosen for storing larger items or boxes you'll want to move in and out easily.
Some storage facilities offer 24/7 access as an added feature, while others provide extended access hours. Availability varies by property, so it's best to check your location's access hours when renting a unit.
Common security features include:
• Gated access with individualized entry codes
• Bright lighting throughout the property
• Onsite staff during office hours
• Video surveillance
• Well-maintained fencing and facility grounds
• Storage unit locks available for purchase
Features can vary widely by location, so reviewing your facility's offerings is recommended.

Convenience depends on your needs, but many renters prefer:
• Drive-up units for fast loading
• Indoor units for hallway access and comfortable entry
• 24/7 access where available
• Month-to-month rentals
• Locations near home, work, or major roads
• Online account management and payment options

They constantly raise rates to absurd heights for a 5x10 locker. would not get a place here go to another company.
I was with this storage company before Public Storage bought it. The rent was reasonable till they bought it. My rent for my small 5x10 outside was around 65 bucks all in each month, and it spiked to 119 dollars. Then they tack on their own insurance, which raises the rates. Also, they force you to swap minor things on your car like bike racks and winter tires outside the premises, causing a big hassle. Do not recommend storing with them. they also will do improvements to the property and not specify the correct time, leaving you stranded as you try to move thing sin for the day
Morgan was very helpful today when I was at my storage unit. He helped me hold a door open and was just very nice. You’re lucky to have him as an employee. Guys with this attitude are hard to find these days. Thanks so much.
Morgan was super nice and customer service was amazing and super easy
Unbelievable increases in rent prices. My most recent bill rent increased by $64.00. This is a standard 10’x20’ outdoor unit that now has a rent price of $318.00 per month. This is insane. On top of the excessively high rent prices they also want to charge an additional $40.00 per month for access to your unit 24/7. If you don’t pay this you’re only able to access your unit during normal business hours. I’m moving on from this unit and I highly suggest that if you’re considering renting here you do your homework. There are much cheaper units renting in this town with the same quality and have 24/7 access without paying an additional fee on top of an already high rent price.
Oh, also don't believe any add stating reduced rent when signing up. They will weasel out of that too. Good luck.
I started with a different company and public storage bought them out. Since that time e my rent has gone up a few times use to pay 125.00 just last month I paid 190 something and go to pay my bill this month and its gone up another 30 dollars! Did I get notification NO not a letter, not a phone call, not an email. Don't you have to give me 30 day notice or SOMETHING BEFORE RAISING IT. THIS IS JUST WRONG! SPECIALLY WHEN THE SIZE I HAVE IS RENTING FOR $119.00 A MONTH. So tell me why is mine 224.00 a month. One star this is pushing it. I know somebody else that pays more for a smaller unit and thier rent is higher then mine and keeps going up all the time too! Why?
First let me compliment Lynita her customer service skills are exceptional. I honestly have no complaints and feel like I made a great choice. Highly recommended!
Lynita
was amazing and helped me through every step of the way
Morgan and Wyatt were complete life savers went out of their way to assure I got the unit needed!!! Extremely good customer service and they won’t make you feel rushed or pressured into service!
Lynita's customer service was great she was very patient and helpful!! But since moving in it's been a hassle and don't communicate after your their client and renting from them... I just paid my October rent and they took it out twice and then say i owe 25 dollars for a fee when that item was returned and even refunded... Ugh
Easy to reserve a space online and when I met with the Manager, Morgan, he was great! He is clearly focused on the best customer experience and accomodated my slightly confusing situation with patience and humor. The Kiosk in the lobby was useless and non-functioning. There were several other people who tried to use it while I was there the first time and all were frustrated. There is nothing like personal service from someone who know the business and Morgan is certainly that person. Thanks, Morgan
Been at this facility for 15 plus years. The change over to Public Storage has been a welcomed change. Morgan has been very helpful during the transition. The facility is is run much more professionally. Cleanliness and security of the property has been improved dramatically. Would recommend this facility to all.
👍
I'll give it a 5 star ⭐ , Morgan is very patient as going over all the details of the place, thank you morgan
Incredible customer service! Morgan, the manager, was so nice and helped me find what I needed for a good price!
Very rude management and frequently closes due to construction work. Save yourself time and money and rent somewhere else.
Morgan was very helpful in setting me up with a clean unit and walking me through all the details regarding insurance, billing and move out!
We started renting climate controlled storage here when this facility was Ironwood. It has changed hands over the past few years multiple times and is now Public. The new management is fantastic - very easy and reasonable to work with and personable. And the changes to access and billing have increased security and convenience.
Terrible customer service. I called Monday they said they made me a reservation, and I could look at the unit before I bought it. Called today to make sure I could look at it they said they couldn’t find a reservation for me, then they said they magically found it, then they said I could look it it at 1 pm. I show up at 1 pm no one is here I wait 15 min nothing , I call corporate, they tell me I cannot look at the unit until I buy it, also the person on Monday told me it was a drive up unit, the person today told me it was not. DONE with this place
Morgan did a great job and was a huge help.
Morgan was extremely helpful and took all the castles out of the experience thank you Morgan c
Dario in the office was very helpful !
Don’t waste your money here. The main gate never works (it’s always open), there isn’t a door handle to open the door to ‘climate controlled’ units, the lights are always flickering (so if you’re sensitive to strobe lights, stay away), and finally they claim to be 24 hours but the gate closes at 9pm so good luck moving things after work.
Then they have the audacity to try to make me for May’s rent after all of my belongings have been removed and my lock from the unit on April 31st. They are a SCAM!!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!
This place has gone downhill since Summit bought it. The buildings have been unlocked since day one, when the original owner had it, you needed a code to access the buildings.
The gate has been broken more than once. "Security" cameras both inside and out are broken or blacked out with paint. Twice since August, we've seen evidence of vagrants being on the property. I emailed corporate several times expressing concern about the total lack of security and they didn't even bother to acknowledge I had even contacted them.
Thanks to the lack of security, I know someone whose unit was broken into using a master key and irreplaceable items were stolen.
We also know someone who moved out of their unit prior to the end of June, when they notified Summit their unit was now empty and they weren't renewing, Summit told them their termination date was the 7th of July and charged them rent for the entire month of July even though Summit had rented out that unit almost immediately. So they also double dipped.
There is never anyone in the office at the Fort Collins property, if you need a human being, you have to call the Loveland office, it's beyond ridiculous.
It was such a nice place when Carl owned it and now, typical of corporate out of state property ownership, Summit couldn't care less as long as they are getting their money. There are much nicer, newer and better maintained places in Fort Collins, I recommend shopping around and you will do better than Summit.
Needed a space immediately and I was able to visit them and get keys within hours! Everyone I spoke with was helpful from beginning to end.
