I stopped by Public Storage on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:45pm to look at getting one or two units for my family. When we arrived, the sales office was completely shut down — doors locked, lights off, gates down — even though it was normal business hours. The sign on the door said to scan a QR code or call for help, so we called.
Instead of reaching anyone on-site, we were routed to a call center. I asked the representative, Carlos, several times if someone at the property could show us the units. He kept repeating that we could “look online at the sizes” and decide from there. I explained multiple times that we wanted to see the units in person so we could choose the right size, but he still couldn’t tell me when anyone would actually be available.
What really bothered me was that when I asked for someone from the local office to call us back, he first refused and said it was not nessasary as I could look and rent onlone. Then he refused unless I provided a full legal name and email address — even though I made it clear we were only inquiring, not signing a contract over the phone. I told him I wasn’t comfortable giving that level of personal information over the phone just to request a call back. He still insisted it was required. After 15 minutes of going in circles, I finally gave a name and number just to end the conversation.
By that time, my dad and I had already drove to two other storage facilities that were less than a block away. Both had staff on-site, ready to show us units immediately, and were actually interested in helping.
My recommendation: go to Extra Space Storage right down the street. Their prices were half of what Public Storage listed online, they have staff on-site until 6pm every day, and they even have a live-in caretaker.
If this is how hard it is just to see a unit and ask questions, I can’t imagine how it would be when if I were a customer and needed help.
We did wind up getting 2 units at Extra Space Storage that same day. I told Carlos we were interested customers and unfortunately with Public Storages practices they lost 2 renters. By the time Carlos finally took the information after a wasted 15 mins of BS, the information was forwarded and we were contacted back it was to late we already had been shown 5 different units and had signed up and were already moving stuff in.
Don't waste your time here just go half a block away save your sanity, money and patience.
Came in very frustrated to no one’s fault. All I can say is after spending about 30 seconds with Jenna , we were both laughing so hard.
I just needed information for storing my mother’s things. She went over the building how they maintain it , the security seems to be top notch especially according to Jenn as they are constantly walking and cleaning and checking units. After speaking with her my frustration subsided and all my issues and concerns were very well explained and addressed, leaving me with everything I could need answered. She was extremely helpful and answered everything honestly and openly - not gimmicky at all.
Will Be back once I sell moms house Florida.

Had a great experience with my recent unit transfer… We all know how much moving in and out of storage units can be… Linda and Danielle were super helpful and attentive towards all my questions!!!
Very clean and well maintained. Carts avail at loading bays , large and small spaces available, Danielle is always of great help from managing all office staff as well as the maintenance of a very large facility. Access hours are great 6am - 9pm with use of a private code ( one of the many security features ) again great location, facility and great management !

I can't believe this . There's a lady that works there her name is Linda Jackson. The most polite person I met in any public place . Trust me when I say I'm very picky about everything. Had a family death in the family and I went there to check out the units to see what I can do and this lady linda helped me she showed me all different sizes in the units . I can't believe she is so respectful. Her manners exceed her and many others. Linda keep up the great work lady . Your amazing and incredible.

I went to this location to inquire about a storage unit. The sales clerk Linda was extremely helpful and very friendly. She was very knowledgeable about the location and even helped us find a decent sized storage unit at a really good price.
I didn't choose a unit with them because the location was a little too far for me, but it is a nice location and plenty of space to park and unload. Only reason I did not give it a 5 was because the trolleys were sparce. I only saw one trolley by the elevator for the second floor. I did not see the first floor, but I saw a lot of the second floor and there were no trolleys up there either. That is a problem for people moving big stuff. That also deterred me from choosing this location for storage...
But they did have a very nice and friendly sales person....Linda is good.

It was okay. There are not enough carts and there wasn't anyone at the facility when we got there. The cart was locked and we were using one. I asked for another one and the lady in the office said, "No, you are already using one." I said we can finish faster with a second cart. She told us only one per customer. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE THERE? I mean I get it, rules are rules but seriously, no one else is there. Give me a second cart so I can get done faster.
A great customer experience comes from a employee making sure a customer needs are met. Sometimes you should do what's right and just. Get that 5 star by giving the customer that experience. If no one else is around, let the customer that is there use a second cart.
I have rented at many storage facilities over the years but by far this is the best one. Sue and the other staff are al a ays around the property cleaning and taking care of the customers. I my family appreciate s all that you do.

Went to Northport NY location. The manager, Ana, is top notch. She runs a facility that is a great place to rent. She maintains the property, knows all her customers, is helpful and knowledgeable. We have rented for years. This is, hands down, the BEST run facility i have ever seen. And it's all thanks to Ana. GREAT job!!!!
Prices are out of control .. 2 increases in 1yr. Now I'm paying double. It's not worth it. If what you are storing is not worth what you will be paying, save the money and donate it for a tax write-off.

I am renting 2 units the price jumped from 450 to over 600 after 3 months this is definitely a scam. Buyers beware !!!
any other place guarantees the price for at least 2 years and then raises it by 3-5% not 25% after 3 months.
i asked to talk to someone about it. a few hours later I got a text message saying " sorry we can't help you.
Was just hit with a 37% increase after just 6 months. Went from just over $200 to more than $300. In half a year.

I’ve rented from other places before and the increases are typically 10% annually. Which is still a hefty increase compared with other property increases. This increase puts them on track to double the rent every year and a half. I won’t be a customer that long. Manhattan Mini Storage, Gotham Storage and Storage Blue are all more reasonable with their prices. I’ve used them all for years. What a mistake to think Public Storage would be a comparable experience.
I recommend this place for sure! It was my first time renting a storage unit, and Britney was very helpful in answering any questions I had. She definitely made the process go quick and easy

Only use them if you're looking for a very short term rental. They regularly excessively raise their rates to the point I'm paying almost three times what I started at. I actually get messages from my bank asking why the rate change is so high every time they raise the rates.
Spoke with Ada today who was fantastic and provided excellent customer service. She was communicative, helpful, knowledgeable, straightforward, very patient with all my questions, and offered an easy, smooth experience. I'd highly recommend her!

I've been keeping multiple storage units across a few states for personal and mostly business use for the past 20 years. The best one to date has been the Public Storage in Commack. The manager, Sue, has been and still is the best of all the managers I've done business with by a mile!
When I first met Sue 4 years ago, she stayed later than she should have to help me set up a large unit. And she kept a smile and laugh through it all. Over the years she has maintained a very friendly and helpful attitude towards customers. I am always greeted with a smile and a can-do-attitude. Sue is a rare kind of person. She is dedicated to her job and does it with a smile. Sue will also go above and beyond what her job requires her to do. I've seen people be rude to Sue and her response is not to argue but to show a nice genuine smile and try to help the people as best as she can. Sometimes it's not appreciated, but she lets it roll off her back. I continue to use Public Storage because of Sue.
Waited an hour for staff to arrive. We booked a outside unit and paid more for it and there were non left.

I don’t have any particular feelings to rate a storage facility, and I am very confused as to how other people could. I really don’t understand how someone could rate a storage facility 5 stars.

Besides that, this place is a good storage facility. A little overpriced and not super accessible . If you are unlucky enough to have an interior box, and need a cart, you will jot be able to find one without making a reservation for it. It may need to be wheeled from the office to your box and then back, but I’m not sure. I have never had the time to call ahead and see if a cart would be available to use.
I don’t know how to rate. But I haven’t seen any roaches or rats. I haven’t smelled anything bad in the facility.. so 3 stars ? Is that good ?
BEWARE!!! They just upped my rent 33%. When I called the call center, I was told that I am subject to rental fee increases and that it was a *business decision*. I have not been able to get in touch with a supervisor. I have been at PS for 2 years and the increases have been around $10. It just jumped up $40 over the course of one pay period. Unacceptable.
