Public Storage wrongfully auctioned our belongings on 11/26/24.I was a returning customer this time for 2yrs. 1 month and 4 days. Because I always rented when needed. I was comfortable with continuing business with the company.The total balance due was $320. I received a call from a number which says it was in Mount Olive from the property manager Judith on 11/21/24 personal calls aren’t allowed while on the unit at work therefore I had to be brief. I was told the balance needed to paid by 11/26/24 to avoid auctioned.Explained to her that my sons ashes were in there and I had just returned to work due to an ankle sprain and I would try to take care of it.On 11/22/24 I attempted to calling the office number 919-999-2103 @ 10:23a,5:58p, 6:03p to see if they would consider working with me knowing that it was a few days until a new month came in and accept a partial payment of $100 no answer on 11/23/24 I made a the partial payment of $110 which included the processing fee.On 11/25/24 I attempted to calling @4:26p,4:32p no answer.On 11/26/24 I tried calling the property again @ 12:05p,12:41p 5:29p. I also left messages letting them know I was trying not to loose our storage unit.11/27/24 is when I learned that tho I made an attempt to save our belongs which included my 11 month old baby’s ashes. After calling several times again during business hrs that were unanswered from the property. I myself have been in the office many of times when calls were taking in front of me. Therefore the excuse of they may have bn dealing with another customer would not work if they try to use that. I was only able to get through to them via chat and through customer service. During business hours in regards to our storage unit.This could’ve definitely bn avoided had they answered the phone in a timely manner during business hours even called that Mount olive number back I left messages letting them know I wanting my belongings. I never was given the proper assistance a redemption period was never mentioned nor offered to sum it up rightfully so they could’ve worked with it was obvious our belongings meant something to me things of value were in there clearly when a customer doing all they could to keep there belongings for that length of time mama they want and need it for whatever the reason.Judith shows NO COMPASSION I hv to take her word for it she says she is awaiting a response from the buyer as much $ this company is making off of customers they are not in dire need to go as far to not work with customers especially a returning customer whom gained faith in them while doing business I pray my sons remains are returned to me and hv not bn disposed 11/18/24 was his 20 yr death anniversary on his bday 12/11 I was planning to remove him from the cremation box and place his remains in an urn instead I’m in mourning all over again this is the 2 nd time 11/26 became the worst day of my life that’s the same day I had his funeral 11/26/05 the devil is a liar the truth ain’t in him I’m praying this gets seen by someone who has a ❤️ bc mine has bn re 💔 plz for the sake of my sanity assist me & my kids with this traumatic experience we are all devastated along with his ashes are professional pictures I had taken along with a few clothes of his I kept I hv not bn able to return to work I will find out today 12/2/24 if I’m still employed bc I called out an hour b4 my shift on 11/28/24 I was not mentally or physically able to show up and work efficiently needed to grieve in private.I can’t eat I can’t sleep and my blood pressure has bn elevated feeling overwhelmed and anxious asking God to cover me I hv a history of PTSD that’s bn under control the past 2 yrs after my hospitalization. I’m doing my best to locate you mommas boy Jhamir Burton 12/11/04-11/18/05 praying.

When I tell you this is the worst experience I've ever had with a storage facility!!!!!!!
Please tell why was I locked out of my unit just 3 days after opening the account for almost A week and a half. I had a major performance and all of equipment was locked in the storage and I was unable to get it because the manager ended canceling the account by accident. I moved into the unit on the 1st of the month and here today it's the 28th and I Get a message that I'm being locked out of my unit for non payment.
I still to this day have yet to hear back from the property manager. I been to the office 6 times this month and there's no one ever in the office, I've called and left several messages and never got a response back for anything. I wouldn't suggest this location to my friends DOG!!!!
I should have known I would have issues with this location because there was furniture laying all over the property, there was trash in front of the office and more. I plan to move all of my things out of this location to somewhere else because apparently NO ONE WORKS THERE EVER!!!!
I would appreciate a call from the regional office or something because even the day that I did come into the office and someone was there, they talked so bad about the manager instead of trying to make my account situation better!

Super easy to rent, clean space and easily accessible. Friendly staff, responded to any needs we had with a quick response. Moved out today and it was smooth and easy. The lady we spoke to day upon closing our unit out was super nice, informative and great customer service… (I wish I remembered her name) she was great!

Jacked my rent from $80/ month to $100/month for a parking space not a garage but a parking space. Customer service is horrible and rude.. They also threatened to auction off my car with a 2 day notice in advance.. Run far away from this place..
Gammon Hall is absolutely correct don’t rent here! Kandy is toothless crook. I was a returning customer. I had previously rented here from 04/2011 to 2/2014 so I felt comfortable coming back, which was the biggest mistake of my life.
I have given them one star because ZERO stars isn’t an option… My parents died a few years back and I unfortunately chose Public Storage as the place to store most of their precious belongings because I couldn’t fit them in my house. I rented a 15x10 unit. I had used another Public Storage for years in the past, and never had an issue. So I was confident nothing bad would happen…
I had missed a payment or two in the past at the other location for one reason or another over the years… but was always contacted by phone, text, and email each time and given ample time to get my account up to date. However at this location I had much more valuable things in my unit. My rent when I got the unit in 2020 was just over $120… By the 3rd year the rent had skyrocketed to over $550!!! However despite the outrageous rate increase, I had NEVER been late on a payment.
In the beginning of 2023 I lost my debit card and put it on hold… My account was past due one month, so at the beginning of the following month I owed about $1080 for that month and the previous month. I paid $780 so I assumed I would be fine AT LEAST to the end of the month. I went online to make a payment on the 30th of that same month (to get the account totally up to date) and they had ALREADY auctioned off my unit…
I tried desperately to reach the manager of the property but they had shut down to “update” the office so it was closed… I called customer service and was basically told TOO BAD! I was literally heartbroken and I was not only told too bad, but I wasn’t even allowed to speak to a supervisor to at least express my frustration with the way it all happened they said because get this… “I WAS NO LONGER A CUSTOMER”.
After making many calls to customer service, I finally reached someone that would speak to me for more than 30 seconds without hanging up on me… I asked them to please please put me in contact with the person that bought my unit in the hopes that I could buy my stuff back. I was told that they would find his contact info and reach out to them on my behalf, but they refused to give out their info. I was never contacted back and when I tried to call to ask, I was told that since I was no longer a customer I wouldn’t be able to speak to anyone at the company.
To add insult to injury I was charged a $90 “cleaning fee” when I only owed them $300 in total rent. They were able to charge my account $90 but they somehow couldn’t have just attempted to charge me the $300 rent before they auctioned off all my parents and my belongings?!
I have since learned that some of the managers of these storage units have kickback agreements with the people that bid on “past due” units, to let them know when there’s a really good unit coming up for auction. I believe the reason I didn’t lose my unit in the past was because I didn’t have things in it that came close to the value of what I had in this unit… So when I was just over 30 days behind, and they cut my lock off the unit, they were able to see what was in this unit. I believe once they had gotten a look at all the valuable stuff that was in my unit, they auctioned it off at the very first date available… rather than doing the right thing and making sure they got in contact with me first to give me time to make a payment. I was never texted as I had been in the past. My wife got an email and they left her a voicemail the DAY BEFORE the unit went up for auction! The phone number they used to call was also not a Public Storage number, it was a random cell phone number from Mount Olive NC… Since we get nonstop spam calls we don’t answer calls phone from random numbers we don’t know… Same as most people typically don’t answer unknown phone calls…
This is an evil company and I have plenty of money, so if there is an attorney out there that’s willing to represent me, I would truly like to make their lives as difficult as humanly possible. And hopefully save others from going through the heartbreak I have gone through. All due to $300 3/5 of 1 months rent… DON’T RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE!!!!!
Terrible Company especially this location. Do not rent from them! They hike your rent at about 25-30% a year and if you miss a single payment they will auction your stuff off and you will never see it again! Buyer be ware!

But!...
Public Storage in general is bad about bumping the price up every few months till it gets absolutely ridiculous. A simple office visit usually can bring it back down, but they'll just float it back up every few months till you have to go haggle over it again.
If you don't pay attention, they'll float your rent up 10x the rate of inflation. both myself and my family have had units with them since the 80s and in the last 10 years or so, rate increases have drifted towards about a 30% cumulative price hike over the period of a year.
Considering the number of competitors in the region, it makes me wonder how they stay in business.
I have records on several units going back for decades and a simple spreadsheet shows just how bad they've gotten in the last decade.

When the price increased dramatically several months ago, I called to say I was dismayed, seeing no reason that the increase should be so much ($40!), inflation not being much of a factor for this type of business. I said that we no longer needed the large unit so would like to rent a smaller one instead. I was told that the smaller unit would now cost the same as what we were paying. NO MENTION WAS MADE THAT WE COULD AVOID THIS BY RENTING THE NEW SMALLER UNIT ON LINE. I did not realize the big difference between a "walk-in" rental and an on-line rental. So we paid the bigger fee for many months before we were able to cancel all together. I definitely feel the person on the front desk who answered my phone call should have told me about the possibility of renting on-line. If she really didn't know about it, she should have been instructed about it by management.
Make sure you contact Judith!!! She’s an absolute sweetheart and will go well beyond her way to make sure that your storage needs are met. When I first booked a unit online, the unit wasn’t compatible with my storage needs, Judith personally took me around to find a unit that would meet my storage needs. Big thanks to her!!!!
Public Storage was ok until we closed our account. First rep was condescending & next was helpful in explaining how to return my lock ( from Public Storage) & receive the money back. Told I had to make an appointment to meet someone to return lock. Went to location 15min prior.
30min past the appointment and two calls inquiring; no one showed up. Someone drove up 40min past by accident & then told me I couldn’t return a lock after 30 days of renting unit. What?? Do locks ‘go bad’?? Someone named Arlene from CA corporate line claimed they never heard of returning their locks. Really? Got 3 phone calls a few days later by Ebony saying she wanted to help me with the lock. Also said someone named Gonzalez said I used profanity & hung up. Did not happen. Will Not use Public Storage again or recommend.

Not happy. I moved into a storage unit they assigned online and the door was only 35 inches wide and couldn't get a sofa or my dining table through it. So asked for a bigger door on a same size unit. They did the new unit, but then charged me 4.00 for a day for the wrong unit because I had to move in then move out and into the new unit and couldn't do it the same day. UGH. I am 70 years old, moved into one unit 12/13/22, out of that unit 12/14/2022, and into the next unilt 12/14/2022. I don't think I would rent from them again.. I am leaving things there for now, but will know better next time. I do like using my phone to get in and out of the gate since the gate access codes are so large.

Upon my arrival at approximately 0730, the "security" gate was wide open. My assigned space (parking) was already occupied by the tractor (?) portion of a semi. My only option was to call and leave a message with the property manager. I did that, but did not receive a call back (admittedly, I only waited 3 hours). The cust reps at the corporate level were absolutely useless. When finally able to reach the manager, she seemed very aware of the fact that there was an improperly parked vehicle, and she assured me that it would be moved soon. The excuse: that persons space had a puddle of water in it?! 3 hours later, still nothing.
2 days later, I am a very happy and satisfied customer/lessee. The on-site property manager, Ms. Kandy seemed to intuit who I was when entered the office. She sincerely apologized for the previous days' confusion and offered to do whatever she could to make it up to me. Those to things alone were enough to console me, however, she went ahead and gave me a satisfyingly discounted rate for my next month's rent. Thank you to Kandy for her effort and professionally friendly behavior.
