Located in DeSoto County just south of the Mississippi-Tennessee border, Southaven is only 13 miles from Downtown Memphis. Southaven is one of 21 designated retirement cities certified by Hometown Mississippi Retirement. In Southaven, Forever Young is the town organization geared for seniors, who, as they say, have retired from working but not from living. Forever Young offers social events from Friday dances to excursions as near as the Great Smoky Mountains or as far as the Hawaiian Islands.

Activities abound all day long: bingo, card games, movement classes, water aerobics, virtual bowling, line dancing, computer classes, and much, much more. Things to do in Southaven

At Snowden Grove Park you can enjoy concerts by major recording artists at the Snowden Grove Amphitheater and watch youth baseball games and tournaments, which culminate during the Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series each year. Soccer is also on the rise as a popular sport in Southaven. Golf enthusiasts can play a 9-hole round at the par 3 Southaven Golf Center. Or just relax, fish, or stroll at one of Southaven’s many local parks.

At Landers Center, catch G-League Memphis Hustle basketball and Memphis Americans indoor soccer games. Or head up to FedEx Forum in Memphis to see the Grizzlies battle their NBA opponents. Take classes, volunteer backstage, or just enjoy productions at DeSoto Family Theatre. Just outside town you can visit the Edgefield Mounds, which is the northern-most site on the Mississippi Mound Trail. Archaeologists believe the earthworks at Edgefield were built by Native Americans during the Mississippi Period.

Southaven Transportation

Major arteries serving Southaven include I-55 and U.S. 51, which run north-south through town, plus I-69, I-40, and U.S. 61 and U.S. 78 are nearby as well. With Memphis International Airport only 6 miles away, it’s no wonder Southaven is considered a major transportation hub.

Southaven Schools

DeSoto County School District provides K-12 public education for Southaven students. University of Mississippi, aka Ole Miss, and Northwest Mississippi Community College have campuses at the DeSoto Center in Southaven.
