Blue Springs History

Originally home to Osage Nation Native Americans, Blue Springs became an important stop for westward pioneers thanks to the fresh waters of Little Blue River. The first post office was opened in 1845 by Franklin Smith of Virginia. The town was incorporated in 1880, not long after the Chicago and Alton Railroad began building a depot, who named the town.
