How to Store Pickleball Paddles

Nov 4, 2025 / Public Storage

Storing pickleball paddles in a storage unit is easy if you follow a few simple steps to keep them in good shape. Regardless of decluttering your garage or keeping your gear in reserve for the off-season, a little planning goes a long way.

Clean Your Paddles Before Storing

Wipe down the paddle faces with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, sweat, or oils that could damage the surface over time. For grips, a light scrubbing with a gentle soap and water mix will help prevent them from stiffening or collecting dust. Let everything dry completely before packing it away to avoid mildew or lingering odors.

How Should You Pack Pickleball Paddles?

Pickleball paddles are surprisingly durable but stacking them without care can cause warping or scratches. Keep paddles in a sturdy paddle bag or a soft sleeve if you have one. If you don’t, a clean towel wrapped around each paddle works just as well. Place them in a storage box. If you’re storing multiple paddles, separate them with cardboard or bubble wrap to keep them from rubbing against each other.

Choose the Right Spot

Even though pickleball paddles aren’t fragile in the traditional sense, they fare best in a dry, ventilated area. Avoid placing boxes directly on concrete floors, which can draw moisture; instead, use a pallet, shelf, or risers to keep the paddles off the ground. Keeping them out of direct sunlight is also smart, as high temperatures can warp the paddle surface or fade colors.

Organize for Easy Access

A little organization goes a long way. Consider labeling your paddle boxes and keeping them near the front of the unit if you plan to rotate your gear in and out. This way, you won’t have to dig through other items to grab your favorite paddle. A simple clear plastic bin can also help contain all related accessories, like balls and grips, making your storage unit feel neat and tidy.

Revamp Your Storage Routine

Once your paddles are packed and in place, take a few minutes to periodically check on them. A quick inspection ensures nothing shifted, got damp, or collected dust. This small habit keeps your gear ready for action the next time you hit the court.

With a little care, your pickleball paddles can stay in great condition in a storage unit, letting you declutter your home and get back in the kitchen whenever you’re ready.
