Moving to Mauldin
Mauldin's history started in 1784 when Benjamin Griffith received a grant for 100 acres in the area now known as Mauldin, South Carolina. In 1868, Willis William Butler purchased a home at Reedy River Road and Laurens Road, the town's only crossroads at that time. At that point, the area became known as Butler's Crossroads and Butler's Corners.
In 1886, the town began growing with the Mauldin Train Depot construction project. Named after Lt. Gov. W. L. Mauldin, Mauldin helped bring the railroad through the community.
On Dec. 24, 1890, Mauldin received its first charter. While the town reincorporated and elected its first mayor on Feb. 14, 1910, the charter became revoked in 1932, a result of extreme hardships the town faced during the Great Depression. However, on May 28, 1957, the town was once again reincorporated. Finally, in 1969, the town became upgraded to a city.
