Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 4040 Hempstead Turnpike, Bethpage, NY

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! This Public Storage location is atrocious! Please read this review until the end! 1. My rent almost TRIPLED during the two years that I was at the location. When asked why there were such major increases in the rent, one of the property managers could not provide a clear answer. He said the best he could do was only slightly increase my rent for a three-month period, after which he would have to instill the full increase amount. 2. My first floor unit was advertised as “climate controlled”. However, the unit and first floor in general were always freezing cold in the winter or hot as blazes in the summer. 3. The dumpster was always locked, and you were not allowed to dispose of anything on-site, lest you incur a penalty. I was actually threatened with a penalty by one of the property managers for trying to use the dumpster. 4. On top of the inaccessible dumpster, there was always garbage strewn across the parking lot that would find its way inside the building. I would frequently find screws and nails in the parking areas too! 5. In general, the inside of the location was very dirty in appearance. When I first moved in, it looked like someone had used the bathroom in the cart holding area! The smell remained for several visits afterwards. 6. There were almost never any carts available for use, and the larger ones that were available were broken (i.e., buckling or locking wheels). This made them very hard to control/steer. In one of the pictures I’ve included, you can even see bird droppings on one of the carts! 7. Public Storage advertises 24/7 access as an add-on, but their rent prices are already sky-high compared to most other storage companies. 8. The layout and general state of the entrances makes it difficult to bring large objects/furniture into the building. When you would try to bring the big, broken carts in and out, they would become stuck. 9. The property managers are almost never around or are hard to reach. 10. There is a total lack of any meaningful building security. While other storage facilities require codes to access their buildings, this Public Storage has automatic doors that will open to anyone/anything. Sure, there’s a gate that requires a code, but what good is that when anyone can hop the gates/fences and waltz right into the building? I strongly suggest that you look elsewhere for your storage solutions. This Public Storage may advertise prices that meet your budget but they will quickly and pointlessly jack up those rates, even for long-term renters. They are clearly not investing anything into the property, given the amounts of garbage strewn about, the lack of any sort of climate control, the lack of useable carts, and the general uncleanliness. Again, avoid this place like the plague!

Just moved my stuff into the storage unit in May and I got an email today saying they raised my rate by 42.00 per month starting October 1st. Every time I have gone there, the carts to load my boxes on are always broken. The first time I went, there was 2 broken carts. The last time there was only 1 broken cart. The wheels were all messed up and I couldn't push the cart. They wait for you to move in and then jack up the prices. I've been looking and I will be moving to another storage facility. This is a horrible way of doing business.

Terrible, the position I'm in now is just terrible. They increase rates whenever they want and their answer to that is to move units. I dont have the physical capability to move all of my belongings again and cant afford to hire movers especially with the egregious rate increases. They bank on this. They waived the rate increase after the first time but made up for that with the multiple increases after that. Im paying over $300 for a unit that was in the mid $100's originally. Beware.

I LOVEEEE this location !! This is NOT just another storage unit facility. When I say top notch, I mean it !! The grounds are spotless and the units are well-maintained , BUTTTT...what truly sets this place apart is the staff. ESPECIALLLY Dawn !! She is friendly, helpful, and always go the extra mile. I cant believe a storage facility is able to make me this happy !!! A++++ HIGHHHLY RECOMMEND IT

So far this place seems good. The storage unit we rented is clean and easy enough to access. When I called customer service they were very polite and helpful when I needed access to the property.

1st time renter. Process was very easy. The manager called to follow-up after we got settled in which was nice and she answered some questions we had. This location has 2 buildings across the street from each other. The manager for both buildimgs sits on the north side of the tpke. Would recommend.

I have had this storage unit for 3 years. Dawn has been outstanding and so helpful. She was always there to answer my questions and help me out with space, payments and any other problem I had. My space was always well ventilated and clean. If I was to rent space again, I would definitely come back here.

Couldn't have asked for an easier experience

I couldn’t wait to move out of this place!! The property manager is nowhere to be found when needed. My storage space went from $175 to $305! Every six months they hike up the rent. The building isn’t climate controlled and on 3 separate occasions I saw mice, roaches and even a snake in the building! There’s never anyone around to help you! Both of the dolly’s are broken so when you’re moving your stuff they’re at risk of being damaged or broken! When the elevator doesn’t work you’re screwed! I’d stay away for this place! They are the absolute worst!!

Stay away from these scam artists

The manager here is absolutely horrible. She cursed out me and my friend for no reason whatsoever because we were having trouble getting our unit unlocked. Very rude people here and you cannot get good help. The only people who will try and help you are the security guards and they are not apart of public storage. Will never have a unit here ever again.

Stay away company will try and take advantage of you. They will get you in at one price and keep raising your a rate. Mine has doubled in the past 4 years. Dealing w corporate is a joke. They advertise units at half the price they are trying to charge me
