Canton is a mid-sized township in Michigan with 91,173 residents, according to population data from the 2010 census. That figure represents an 18.1 percent increase from 2000 census data, when Canton had only 76,366 residents.[1] Part of the increase in population is from an influx of residents from the two cities Canton sits in between: Ann Arbor and Detroit.
Canton is a mainly suburban area with all the conveniences you expect from a modern town. The full-service community features strip malls, a business district and industrial area, plus rows of residential neighborhoods. The major thoroughfare off Interstate 275 features movie theaters, bars and restaurants, and plenty of entertainment, including the Canton Liberty Fest, outdoor concerts, and more.

Less than a half-hour from Ann Arbor, and about 45 minutes from Detroit, residents in Canton have their choice of professional opportunities in either city. Industries such as automotive, architectural engineering, finance, services, and technology are among the most prevalent in both areas.
Daily life in Canton is pleasant, with a community atmosphere, plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities, sports, and modern conveniences.

Relocation
People who are relocating to Canton should keep a few points in mind. First, homes and condos range in price from $100,000 to $500,000 or more. Neighborhoods such as Antique Forest are much more upscale, with luxury homes set on manicured lawns in a pleasant, safe environment.
Neighborhoods such as Glengarry Village & Woods offer homes and condos in the low $100,000 to upper $300,000 range. Many lower-priced apartment complexes and condos are closer to the commercial areas.[2]
Be aware that Michigan winters are extremely cold. The state sits in an arctic downdraft that pulls freezing air down from the arctic during shifts in the Gulf Stream. Temperatures regularly drop below freezing during the winter, and snowstorms are common. Four-wheel drive vehicles and heavy clothing are a necessity when you live here. However, in the summer, you can explore state parks or experience water adventures in Lake Michigan.
