Arcadia is a vibrant city in California's Los Angeles County. It lies at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, 21 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Arcadia was settled in the mid-19th century and grew rapidly after 1875, when real estate speculator Elias Jackson "Lucky" Baldwin purchased and developed a large area of land in its vicinity. It was officially incorporated in 1903. Another period of growth occurred in the 1930s, when Arcadia's small farms and chicken ranches gave way to modern buildings and homes. Arcadia continued to grow during a period spanning from the end of the Second World War to the 1960s.

Today Arcadia is home to roughly 56,500 residents.[2] No matter what time of the year it is, there's always something to do. During summer, locals enjoy concerts by the California Philharmonic, who play a series of shows at the historic Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. In winter, nothing beats the excitement of the horse races at Santa Anita Park, Southern California's oldest racetrack.

Housing Information
Arcadia stays true to its motto "Community of Homes" by remaining a primarily residential area. However, these homes are out of the reach of many Americans, with the median property costing approximately $930,000. These steep prices do buy luxury dwellings though, with plenty of space and modern conveniences. With prices appreciating by close to 20 percent recently, real estate experts suggest it's a great time to buy in Arcadia if you can afford it.
